LWE112
We know about the Desert Countryside and Los Santos and small towns in the desert and countryside, but what about the small towns close to Los santos? R* Mentioned it will be re-imagined Southern California, I have seen from other topics talking about Malibu, if the places like Topanga will feature? from the GI article they have already mentioned that Rockford hills is going to be the most luxurious place in Los santos, but what about places on the outskirts of LA, places such as Calabsas, agoura hills , hidden hills , Topanga , San fernando valley , Malibu , Tarzana all these places tend to make up part of Los Angeles and are very rich neighbourhoods in LA, do these places count as small towns in which R* has mentioned in their press release? Here are some pictures for those who dont know about these places: Calabasas Agoura hills San Fernando Valley http://geology.campus.ad.csulb.edu/people/...alleyOct06L.jpg And heres a MAP for those who are unsure where abouts they are really located (Mainly on the Left hand side) if this topic needs to be locked, then lock it ! Matty
I've stated this in another topic, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was an urban sprawl surrounding Los Santos or if there are a number of smaller satellite communities surrounding the Los Santos area - communities that aren't small enough to be considered rural but aren't large enough to be considered fully-fledged cities. As whether the GI article was referring to this when it mentioned smaller towns or not, I don't know. If I had to guess, it would've probably been referring to rural localities rather than larger satellite communities. Also, resize the San Fernando Valley image (or just link to it), it stretches the page. Just a heads up .
IveGotNoValues
I hope they add some surrounding suburbs, it would make it a lot more realistic. I still believe a reimagined SFV could be on the other side of the observatory... hopefully

thebestgameever
From what it looks like, it seems LS is VERY compressed in V, so i think this stuff, which i think would be amazing to have, wont be in that much.
AdvanceTrak RSC
Suburbans mean the possibility of robberies. More houses would be great I miss the robbery side mission

USAPatriot
The closest things I ever saw to suburbs in GTA was the Prickle Pine district and other districts north of the Strip in Las Venturas. It was cookie cutter homes with nice driveways, picket fences, etc. I doubt we will see any real suburbs cities, but more or less some homes around the cities. So what I mean is we probably won't see a sprawled out city beside Los Santos with mostly homes and big box stores, and many people would probably just think everything looks the same in them. I would like to see it to add realism, but if it comes between suburban sprawl over countryside and other communities dotting the landscape, I will choose the latter. Well, the thing is we have barely seen the outskirts on Los Santos. Of course we have seen the coast and the southern coast, but we have yet to see SE of LS, where LP Fwy leads. If you know LA, then you kmow some mighty suburbs sit there. And then we have the eastern outskirts of LS. This area is very low im density, soi am pretty sure suburba will lie there. They aren't stupid enough to place apartments next to the desert of hills. There will be suburbs. I am sure of that.

This makes the most sense to me too. Las Venturas had some strip malls, but Los Santos in the game didn't. No box stores, no floods of housing. From what I can see currently in the game footage so far, I don't see that again either. The game Midnight Club featured the box stores and urban sprawl, but I don't expect to see it to the large extent people are hoping for. Lets face it, some people don't want to drive through sprawl like they do everyday. Games that had sprawl were True Crime LA for the PS2 as well as even the newer LA Noire. After awhile, it all started to look the same, and it made for areas you couldn't recognize like you can in GTA games.

It's a shame though. I really love SoCal for it's sprawling suburbs, and since I was into sh*t like suburbs and stuff, it didn't seem to boring to me. Supacoupe
W/o the existence of another city I can only see them making up those points of interest with sprawls of suburban cities/townships. That can't be harder to design than another major city, so I don't really agree with the no urban sprawl theory. I get the feeling that they wanted to do a city right and every major city includes a metropolitan area surrounding and feeding that city with major hubs of population. R* will do it that way if there isn't another city for us to aim for considering what they've been showing thus far. This feels like the only direction they could go minus building another major city (which may or may not exist). Edit: Keep in mind the colored bus lines and the connection to possible satellite cities. Edited January 9, 2013 by Supacoupe

ill-thoughts
since people from LA Noire are working on GTA5, Los Santos will probably be a bit larger than that city and probably ACCURATE in alot of ways.....which means Yes, suburban neighborhoods. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAXJqLg3Jvc

We know that long beach is included and i hope there is more suburbs to explore. Los Santos from the trailer looks small but i think that rockstar is now hiding a big part of the city. Ferocious Banger
According to GI, the "expansive environment includes beachfronts, wine country, a large wilderness area surrounding a fully explorable Mt. Chiliad, a Salton Sea region, a military base, and of course the sprawling suburban hills leading up to the bustling urban centre of Los Santos." Anyways, how can Houser create that "sense of sprawl" without the suburbs? There must be some. Edited January 11, 2013 by Ferocious Banger
USAPatriot
Gaming magazines tend to fantasize and exaggerate. But I can say with 100% confidence, the sprawl will not be more the L.A. Noire.
