Jackmackg
What the point of the animation if theres no first person view to view the animation in? I do support the option to be able to drive stick tho Well there could be a first person view but anyway you can look into the windows of the car to see the player. The camera does not stay in a fixed location behind the car. Sometimes when turning or going down hills or just moving the camera to better see something you can see into the car. Or the car might be a convertible and or damage to the car like missing doors might show the player better. Also when your on foot you can see npcs doing it. Like sniping someone in a car. Just some ideas.
G-Eazy
What the point of the animation if theres no first person view to view the animation in? Well, I think that Rockstar Games will put an first person view in every vehicle to get an realistic feel when you're driving.
gta_fan28
Well, watch this game Saboteur, look at the shifting animation while driving. Look every time he increase and decrease the speed the shifting animation animates automatically. It would be cool we see this kind of animation in GTAV right? That's all any of us are looking for IMO. That and a steering wheel that works. However it would be clever if they do what they did for the cellphone in IV and model the dash, even though it is insignificant.
blowtorchrepair
who will play this game to ooze over gear shift animation??? When I'm driving in L.S. in a first person view (if we get one) I want to see as much map as possible, the masterpiece of the game, and not so much a cars' interiors. The windshield cam in IV was perfect. All view and no BS. The hood animation was perfect. but I'll admit, if R* adds gear shift animation it and it looks good, it'll be cool now. Obviously everyone is not like you. Some people are interested in different things than you. YOU KNOW? I like to look at some buildings. Others don't care for buildings. So what? it's called giving an opinion, what everyone does here. you are brilliant, yes indeed. I have bright hopes for your future.
thebestgameever
I liked the animations in Sleeving dogs when you accelerated on the motorbike, the arm movement looked cool.
theworldfamous
good idea.. but lets have a proper cockpit view first so we can actually see the animation.

You're like "who actually oozes over that". What I was trying to say is some people do that, some don't. I like architecture in GTA's some don't. Do you get it now? Or are you gonna' hit me with another one of those corny sarcastic "you're perfect" quotes?
sivaG
that would be a nice touch. on a sidenote do you think cars will keep shifting like they have endless gears as in previous games? would be nice to see this fixed as well Exactly... Sef
Yes, I would love that. But on the other side, I think that lots of American people will be suprised by this because the most people in that country drive automatic-cars.
Spex84
It IS true that most north americans drive automatic cars. I don't know about Europe, but I wouldn't be surprised if a high proportion of those cars are auto as well. That said, a big part of "driving culture" is manual shifting. I don't think the cars in GTA 5 will have moving steering wheels OR shift animations, as much as I'd like to see them. Here's why: -in order to make the steering wheel move, it needs to be a separate part with its own dummy object and associated code to make it move according to the position of the wheels. It would need to have "smoothing" code so that it doesn't twitch insanely when players twitch the controller sticks/keyboard keys. It adds complexity, and the fact is that with no in-car camera view, GTA has been getting away with non-moving steering wheels for a while now. They will likely continue. -shift animations would be pretty easy BUT they'd look silly without an animated gear shift to match. This would add complexity as well, and it's easier to just avoid it. There are other things that GTA's vehicles don't really have, like complex linkages (ie proper suspension geometry, functional construction equipment like front-end loaders, etc.) Looks like at least some of the trucks will be able to pull trailers this time, which is cool. I'd love to be wrong...Mafia and MCLA had moving steering wheels, and MCLA definitely has shifting. What I'm not sure about is if either game actually has an animated shift lever. I don't think anyone would be "surprised" to see shifting animations. Pretty much anyone who can drive a car knows what a gearshift is If not from real life, then at least from watching films! If they DO intoduce proper steering wheels and shifting (which only really makes sense if they plan to show a lot of in-car cutscenes that require shifting), I guarantee you that players will complain about how the needles on the gauges don't move
N0Xaeris
Aren't manual transmission cars a rarity in the States? I drive one, but yes, I will say, it does seem with the most recent generation of cars, stick's are on their way out, especially with hybrids becoming popular. Fun fact: Honda sells a hybrid sports car that has a manual transmission option.

I don't recall endless shifting on SA, LCS or IV, are you talking about Saints Row The Third? I would like the animation and blow off sounds for turbos as well
