You could play with a controller on your PC.

Srsly though, even with a controller you can't keep the engine flat while remaining the same speed, or can you? I wouldn't know

You can. You just squeeze the trigger in one spot. Want to go slow? squeeze it barely in.

Now this sounds like a good idea. And no punishment for those who prefer the classical driving, unlike what one idiot suggested in the previous thread about gears.

I want to do 2mph with the cruise control on past some Vinewood sluts with my middle finger sticking out the window, music blasting out of my car, and the roof of my 9F going down. cool.gif

It'd certainly be a good idea, I can think of lots of uses for it.

I guess it'd be OK, but the "SR had it first" thought would always tickle the back of my mind.

Who cares sbout SR? It's wannabe GTA game to begin with.

...which is exactly why it would feel weird to have GTA adopt a feature that a wannabe introduced first. Comprende? Or do I need to draw you a fricking map?

No you don't need to draw me a picture. IMO it has nothing to do with "who did it first?", it's a question of "who does it right?" and simply "would people want it?"

I guess if you'd be head of the development department at R* they could never introduce new mechanics to the series that have been used in other games. Oh wait....was there horse riding in RDR? That has been in Zelda too hasn't it? Damn R* shame on you, REALLY.

Or is that "problem" of yours just SR-related? Can R* never do anything SR did first? Would balls be busted and bubbles burst like dreams?

Try to see it from this point of view: without GTA -> no SR -> without SR -> no cruise control....so it all goes back to the creator in the end.

Shallow and pedantic views you got there mate....how dare you let such view on things ruin a possibly more satisfying GTA experience?!....

This is hilarious. You're behaving as if I said "No! They can't do that! SR did it first!" Maybe read my post again, Einstein.

Ha, I'm behaving as if you said it would be weird to have R* "adopt" something that was in SR first. Which is absolutely not the case but maybe it is to you individually. And you also implied that knowing SR had cruise control first, it would tickle the back of your mind, which is again pretty much subjective and "your problem"

I simply told you that's bullsh*t.

Thank you Noclue_42, you're welcome Druffmaul

Cruise control is great. You can set the car going slow, aim it at a crowd, then jump out and run ahead and watch it run the people down.

Well, that's how I use it on my Mercedes, I'm guessing it'll be just as much fun in GTA.

Sounds like you are a good and legal driver. tounge.gif

I can imagine it nicely in GTA. It would be funny if the car keeps the speed without you sitting in.

That would be cool, if we could change it to km instead of miles. We don't use miles in my country so it wouldn't work i gues.s.

I voted no.

It's not a problem with the PS3 controller anyway to maintain the same speed.

Also the poll is terribly biased, it's not a simple black and white yes or no vote, it's a yes vs "absolutely not" vote.. It's too strong.

Biased? Terribly?! ;D

It's an "absolutely yes" or "absolutely no" vote. Fair game and nothing biased. There was no room for "maybe" here, it's a case of to be or not to be

Why not? Make it so some button toggles it and it'd be fine.

It's really not an issue since the acceleration button is R2 on the controller it makes driving any speed consistently quite easy.

I had no problems so I probably wouldn't use it. BUT than again when I think about it when I'm wanting to load a bowl in the bong I could hit that cruise control and keep driving while I'm gettin' it ready.

So yeah it would be pretty cool to have. Not a must but definitely a handy feature.

Exactly, think of the possiblities. While not needed, it could be useful for all sorts of things.

There you have it R*....people would really like dat cruise control - and you know you got to give the people, now give the people what they want. PLEASE, be so kind will ya? The ability to switch off "camera automation" and switch on "cruise crontrol". It would be, in one word, epic!

I liked it in S.R.

I was able to smoke and play the game at the same damn time.

I don't see a time where it would be useful.

Certainly not a downside but I can't imagine ever using it.

I can't really make my mind up on this one. It'd be a nice option to have for sure but I probably wouldn't use it very often. Not against it though.

We better not talk about stuff like this though or we'll have members saying that it's "a waste of a button" lol.giflol.giflol.gifcolgate.gifsmile.gifbored.gifconfused.gifmercie_blink.gifsuicidal.gif

As I said it would pretty much add a great bit to the laidback factor. Some people like to take a break from progressing with the story and just drive around the city and the listen to the radio. I am one of those people. You could enjoy the scenery, Los Santos in HD, much more and in more detail if you had cruise control. It would be of advantage to the immersion.

Seemingly that "keeping the pace steady" aspect isn't a big issue with a controller, but on the keyboard it is almost impossible to remain the tempo without accelerating or slowing down. I tried it and you'd have to slighty push while at the same time releasing the accelerating key (w) in order to remain the tempo. It's very difficult to do IMO. In another thread I said that if you tap the engine shortly to have a steady pace, the car's hood keeps going up a little every time. That's the effect of the engine literally, literally. The game's engine dictating the car's engine to have the hood go up upon acceleration. It's a cool aspect but I'd rather have the hood flat and just drive at say 10 mph and remain at that speed.

I can't put in other words than I did before so I might sound like a parrot here. Just sayin cruise control would be very appreciated since it would allow for more laidback driving and it would eradicate the hood popping up aspect for keyboard input. Before this thread I had no idea that with a controller you had much more control over this. I'd love to try it but then again I'd miss the mouse to swing the camera around. I can't aim with those sticks, I just can't.

I understand your point, however, cruise control may be a very handy tool at your disposal. Have you ever played Team Mafiya Work online on GTA IV? In case you haven't, one objective of the mode may be to steal a car. So, say you are beaten to said car and an enemy on an opposing team collects it and must take it to the drop-off. If you recklessly shoot at the car, eventually it will explode, which counts as you failing that task and you are charged $500. Now, to obtain that car, you need to kill the enemy driver. Needless to say, this is easier said than done as your enemy is well protected by this car's exterior. On top of that, you also have to drive at a steady pace, along with dodging traffic and possibly surviving enemy attacks. With cruise control, you can simply build a decent speed that matches your enemy, switch it on and now, you do not have to worry about maintaining a constant speed because all you have to do is focus all of your energy on killing your enemy. Scenarios like this would be a perfect spot for cruise control, in addition to just wanting to have a better shot while your car is still in motion for a quicker getaway.
