initium
Only because you did advide me! I'm sorry miss grammar Just kidding. But actually that's a very good idea it's much more immersive without a map. It's good you pointed it out tbh. Any mod reading this? I strongly advide you to correct the title! Ferocious Banger
Yeah, I'm not doing that. All my favorite landmarks are usually on the map. You go right ahead though. I just saw what you did there. Really? What did I do there? I just said I prefer my mini map on. You said map, so I'm assuming he thought you were making a joke about literally not using the map(entire environment). Add to that the fact that the OP said "disable the map"; just made that look like a light-hearted post.

IronZombie
Two points, First the map is going to be what, like 2 to 3 times the size of RDR's map Second, unless I misunderstood, the whole map will be available from the start. It might be kinda hard without a map for the first bit of the game imo He's not saying do this during missions. He means during free roam. I'm not the only one here who's going to just grab a car as soon as I can and drive just to explore the city and countryside. If you turn off your map then you won't need to look at it to know where you're going, you can just get lost and end up where the road takes you. You'll take in a lot more of the atmosphere that way. Fail_At_GTA
hell yeah, i still i remember all the maps of gta 3 vice city and san andreas. Gta 4 kinda ruined it with the gps Uh, you can turn the GPS off.... It literally takes 2 seconds.

TheIllaDopest
ok, a simple map, a reliable compass, some water proof matches and a knife. Survial mode, find your way back to civilization w/o dyin. Wouldnt that be awesome, even add leaderbords for fastest time.

Wouldnt that be awesome, even add leaderbords for fastest time. Only if it's a side activity that you activate by pressing a button while standing in a marker. Not automatic, that would kind of suck. I wouldn't want to go into survival mode when just trying to explore.
blakeney
GPS in IV was sh*t and unreliable, I never followed the routes. It was spot on...the problem was that it took one way streets into account, and NY is full of one way systems...

simonp92
Wait. So disable the map or disable the GPS? I know the OP means the map but allot of people in this topic are talking about the GPS.

blakeney
In the old Getaway games there was no map in the HUD. The game guided you to waypoints by the cars directional light you were driving in. I remember that The Getaway captured London so well, i cant belive they never did release #3! Not only was it like for like match of the streets.... all the cars were real, and even all the shops etc were real and in the right place etc! I have honestly been lost in central London twice now and both times we found ourselfs becuase we reconised something from Getaway then worked from there! My only issue with 1&2 was the fact that the driving really was piss poor.

So with little life you have from surviving, you gather food by killing some animals before you set out.....kinda Man vs Wildish
Supacoupe
I strangely never considered this. I'll start that on V. I handicapped myself all to much in the other games.

Dick Valor
I strongly advise that noobs try the "blips only" radar option before disabling the radar and/or HUD. Losing your wanted level can be a real bitch without the map.

Frantz Fuchs
The map is just too big in V to do that. If it was set in Vice City, then sure, I'd do that.
AuSsIeThUnDeR36
Well I know SA better than my own suburban map but I still play with the mini map on but I don't look at it. Really it's not that big of a deal. IV however, now that's a different situation. I don't play IV that often but if I did, I think maybe I could play without peeking at the map. saintsrow
I did that with iv the other day. Within a minute i was driving down alley ways ive never been in trying to find my way to blips. It made me realize how many shortcuts i could have used over the years Yes, when I free roam to explore rather than using GPS (or RDR's red line) I too find places that I would never have experienced. I would like to see everything, to appreciate the work that the designers put into the world. I wish there was a tracker view on the map that I could bring up, that shows everywhere I have ever been in the game, so I can be sure that I have covered all streets. I suppose when before you learn your way around it could be fun to roam without knowing where you're going. You might stumble onto something interesting. Although I doubt you could find your way around well using the sun in V as there would be too many obstructions. Plus doesn't the sun move really quick because the hours go by quickly? You'd see it in one place and and several minutes later (in real life) it'd be quite a distance away wouldn't it? I think it'd be hard to use as a reference in that case. I often use the sun in RDR (near sunrise or sunset) to orient my travel direction approximately north south east or west. It seems pretty natural. The days seem long enough in RDR that the sun is reliably in either the east or the west for about half the time, it seems. Sometimes however, I have to hit the menu button and lose immersion in order to check the time of day so I can remind myself if the day is in sunrise or sunset. So it would be nice to have the option of the antique watchface to display on the regular RDR game view.
ill-thoughts
since i googlemap from my tablet everytime i go to a city irl, ill be using the map at first to help me memorize everything. after about 5 hours, i should have it all memorized to the point where i wont look at the map at all. GTA4 would have been a NIGHTMARE if not for the map.

saintsrow
Dashbord cam + Radar and HUD off. Yes, this is a great immersive free-roam mode. One trick is to decide how close to be to the screen to get a natural perspective for the camera's field of view -- i.e., same size of image on your retina as if you are really driving in a real life car. It seems like I need to sit too close to the screen to get this effect.
