initium
A few days ago, I played Red Dead Redemption again, and after a few hours, I decided to disable the map. It's the best thing I've done! The adventure started from there on! Looking at the sun for directions, and doing whatever came to mind instead of following a red line on the map and missing out on the view! I've decided that when I play GTA V, the first few days or weeks, I will play without the mini map! There's just way more adventure ahead of you that way! It felt like the old days! It doesn't really work during missions, so use the map then, but my advide when you're free roaming: TURN OF THE GODDAMN MAP!

Especially in RDR which is set in a time where gps wasn't invented it adds lots to realism. In IV I've used the minimap in freeroaming from time to time but even if I had GPS on I tried to find a quicker / better way to the next checkpoint (using one way streets in the wrong direction, alleys, etc)
MWC
hell yeah, i still i remember all the maps of gta 3 vice city and san andreas. Gta 4 kinda ruined it with the gps
Deffpony
I'm doing this on my second play through of IV and I must admit its quite difficult.

Jordan_Philip
I did that with iv the other day. Within a minute i was driving down alley ways ive never been in trying to find my way to blips. It made me realize how many shortcuts i could have used over the years
Spaghetti Cat
Two points, First the map is going to be what, like 2 to 3 times the size of RDR's map Second, unless I misunderstood, the whole map will be available from the start. It might be kinda hard without a map for the first bit of the game imo No Image Available
SilentnElite
I suppose when before you learn your way around it could be fun to roam without knowing where you're going. You might stumble onto something interesting. Although I doubt you could find your way around well using the sun in V as there would be too many obstructions. Plus doesn't the sun move really quick because the hours go by quickly? You'd see it in one place and and several minutes later (in real life) it'd be quite a distance away wouldn't it? I think it'd be hard to use as a reference in that case.
NopeMan
Has anyone else noticed that a lot if not all of the buildings in GTA V are numbered? Even this gas station has "59023" spraypainted above the door. Not only am I planning on turning off the map, but I'm also planning to locate buildings based on the address numbers as well

Bonfy
I used to play without map in Skyrim, and it was a whole new and pleasant experience. I didn't know the minimap could be hidden in IV too (shame on me). I'm gonna try it as soon as I play again!

EDIT: Only for general free roam though ...which might work if you're working with a smaller map and a city like Liberty City. Most of the main city was laid out in a grid. I don't think the new Los Santos will be as straight forward. Much less the huge countryside. Not that I'm against it, just it'll be harder than you think at first. edit edit: didn't see the ninja edit No Image Available
Jordan_Philip
In the old Getaway games there was no map in the HUD. The game guided you to waypoints by the cars directional light you were driving in.

Jackmackg
I do not know locations by in game name but I can play the game and get to places fine without the map. When it comes to missions where I need to go some place I will have to hit start and see where I need to go and drive there. The map I have the most problem with is gta sa. I can still get to places but sometimes I have to hit start to study the map some.
