You met...De Niro?

 

Met may be a slight exaggeration of the circumstances, but in 2010 he was in Melbourne to film a movie with Jason Statham (Killer Elite, I still haven't watched it funnily enough). I was in the CBD/downtown area to meet a friend for lunch and was walking from the train station past a cafe which, to the average by-stander, looked like it was a construction site - there was a massive metal fence around the facade blocking off entry, and a few random workers buzzing about on the interior of the fence. I decide to stop and have a bit of a sneak peek being the nosy f*cker that I am and not even 5 metres from the fence/sidewalk, big dog De Niro is just sitting there at one of the tables reading a paper. I was in a rush and this was in my peasant days of not having a phone with camera capabilities, and I was also fairly celebrity-shy at this stage so I didn't really know what to say, so I just semi-yelled out "Raging Bull!" to grab his attention. He looked up, smiled, waved then kept on reading, and I walked off feeling like an absolute champion for the fact that I was acknowledged by Robert f*cking De Niro of all people.

 

Closest encounter I've come to since then was letting Johnny Galecki (Leonard from the Big Bang Theory) drive in front of me out of a drive-way when I was in LA last year.
