Try Outlaw Star, Martian Successor Nadesico or Bubblegum Crisis OVA for some quick and rewatchable anime. :)

no but you should totally watch fate/zero. It's not really similar but I feel they sort of have the same vibe if that makes any sense.

I actually don't watch much anime but enjoy visual novels quite a bit. I'm thinking of watching Monster since it seems really interesting.

Recently catching up on Jojo's Bizzare Adventure.
Thought it was pretty weird and 'gay' first time taking a quick look on the series.

Turn out it was damn awesome. Ridiculously over the top and so much fun.
And all of the opening are freaking awesome. I could sit all day just watching those openings.

you should also try Hokuto No Ken (Fists of the North Star) I was introduced to it by my god brother and holy sh*t... it inspired JJBA

Okay, so.. I'm not really an anime fan. But apparently, a lot of people on this website love anime. I don't know what makes it so good besides the writing and the drawing. If anyone has any suggestions, please reply below. I just don't want something far fetched and mainstream like Dragon ball Z or Naruto. I want something that's realistic and has a good story.

And I also want it to have good action scenes in it. Any recommendations?

I myself am not as much of an anime fan as most people either (I just grew up with stuff on Cartoon Network and other saturday morning animation channels)

I suggest Blue Gender... its not so mainstream and is pretty good... kinda f*cked up but its realistic to an extent...

also was on adult swim for a while so thats a plus

Lay off :) I like a lot of anime (too much sometimes). Riding Bean is definately a must see, but I am going to be a little critical of Gunsmith Cats. It's a good anime but like Battle Angel Alita, the manga is far better.

If you fancy another good anime to watch, you can't go wrong with Redline. No big story, but very clean animation and lovable cast.

Been binge-watching some anime that my friend recommended this week.

Shirobako

Shirobako is great. Can't relate with the work thing though since i have no experience, but some of the quote uttered in this anime is seriously inspiring.
Pretty amazing that i got hooked up just in the first few minute on the very first eps.
I liked the story, having friends that shares the same dream and trying to achieve it even when reality seems to hit them hard. And pretty informative on how an anime was made, and definitely grew me some respect on people who worked on anime industry.

Gurren Lagann

Gurren Lagann is awesome. Thought its gonna be an all around over-the-top, mindless but fun anime. But as soon as it find an actual character development, it got me hooked.
Not a fan at the second arc though, felt too grand and massive, and a bit forced, it started to look ridiculous and absurd. But still got its heart set on the right thing, so still fun while it lasted, kinda sad seeing it over too.
Love the opening music so much, and since Gurren Lagann is great, i'm going to give Kill la Kill a second try, and

Kill La Kill

Yes, it was awesome too. One might agree about how annoying the fan service/ sexual appeal this anime had. Threw me off on my first try.
But it does get deep after the revelation, still in over-the-top way, but it does get way interesting. Felt unique.
Love Kiryuuin Ragyou theme. Give me the chill, and its so damn catchy.

I gotta say, i'm now an anime fan. They tackle unique plot that i've never seen in any other media.
I'm definitely going to keep track on every new anime series from now on.

yea I started reading the manga way before I found out it was an anime... and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order is one of my faves :p

"Its Rape Time My Friend"

Like I said, I dont watch much anime... but I have read ALOT of manga in my days... used to go to the library and check out stacks of books to read every day... I read so much that I actually had to go to different branches of the library because I would end up exhausting the books they had at the previous library...

I've been breezing through Sword Art Online in the last week or so. Always looked interesting and I spotted it on Netflix at the same time as my Bloodborne bing and they seemed to go hand in hand.

I tried watching one of the .Hack animes before but it didn't grab me. I feel SAO does the online gaming world thing better, or at least for me. I've got 5 episodes left. It's good.

I dunno, I used to watch .Hack religiously when I was young. but I recently tried getting back into it and I couldnt... I vaguely remember bits and pieces off it...

Sword Art Online is one of my current favorites. but it seems to go by too fast... also Netflix is weak, they dont update anime much...

I suppose it depends on where you begin. Having seen neither I can't give an honest opinion, but I've heard some of the more veteran views praise .Hacks (though SOA still gets rave reviews all the same).

The only thing close to online gaming anime I've seen is Angelic Layer. Very good and underrated.

You can't admire art in isolation, you must accept the guilty pleasures to enjoy the bigger pictures (and $100m+ for The Madonna wiff ze big boobies....sorry...Picasso's Women of Algiers ;):) must be a real guilty pleasure). I will admit being curiously drawn to Sailor Moon. I've not watched it but I'm intrigued. I've watched similar in Slayers so I can't say I'm against watching Magic Girl anime, even if it seems odd.

Spaghetti Cat

Hey gang, I have an anime/manga question for you all. Tried to get it answered in the have a question topic, but might have better luck here...

I'm not sure what they are called but it's a symbol above a character's head representing emotion. I'm looking for the symbol for curious or intrigued.

Do any of you know what that would be? Or maybe point me towards a resource where I can find myself. Thanks in advance! :^:

Thanks. I was thinking of what they have for the cruciform popping vein as related to anger. Was just wondering if there was one for curious or intrigue.

Yeah it's generally pretty rubbish, but there's plenty on there I haven't watched yet.

I guess subscribing to crunchyroll or someplace like that would be better

I've been watching Monster. Seems really "un anime like" which is cool. I prefer VN's over anime and I recommend anime fans try them out since they're kinda similar except way better :p .

My favourite anime are fate/zero and DBZ.

Can i just dropped in to say that Kill la Kill had the best soundtrack ever in Anime that i've seen.
There's lot good ones, but nothing stood out more than the OST from KLK. Everything fit well with the scene and makes them felt so epic.

Especially Ragyo Kiryuin theme, Blumenkranz.
Imagine an intimidating, f*cked-up woman, rainbow shining under her hair, with this song playing in the background.

Always get the chill when shes on screen. So memorable.

And i'm doing this 3d fan art because Satsuki is my kind of kawaii.

Hulu has surprisingly alot of good anime... its missing hamtaro though... Ham Ham Adventures!

Well, in regards to other magical girl shows Ive heard about (and card captors that I watched) sailor moon is honestly more of a cartoon.

I remember when I was young I used to review Visual Novels lmao

You're one scary fan :p;):) . I'd really need to watch Kill La Kill to really give a fair judgement on the soundtrack, but I see where you're coming from (I have also been planning to watch Kill La Kill anyway), but I must disagree. Nice as your example is I have to say the entire Redline Soundtrack is better:

It must also be said the original Bubblegum Crisis had an ace soundtrack (if you're of an age) :)

@Cudweisser

Lol. what scary part of me do you see? I was just blown away by KLK, because i didn't expected it to be so awesome. When i was amazed, i had to do a fan art of it.
Beware of the fanservice though if you plan on watching KLK. It put me off on my first viewing. It got way more amazing and deep after the revelation eps.
If you love Gurren Lagann, you'll love KLK.

And yeah, everybody got different choice on whats better. I just recently started watching anime, so there's not much to the list of Anime that i've watched, but so far, KLK OST is superb.

Someone recommended me Redline too, i'll put it on my list of anime to watch.

I really should have said this a post ago, but your models are very impressive.

Fan service doesn't really bother me as I will give everything the merit of accepting it as a matter of fact unless it goes beyond the pale or stops making sense. I have actually gotten through Ikki Tousen and Tengho Tenge which are service heavy. Neither has a great story but neither are so bad that they tell the stories badly. Both have content that is amusing and relatively unclashing that you can actually watch them, but not so much that they stand tall enough in comparison to the big leaguers. What remains with both is a quasi-historical romp with overplayed humor and unnecessary titillation.

Anyways, back on topic. I'll definitely give KLK a look the next time I'm buying anime (have a bit of spending to do on something more important between now and September so won't get a chance to buy anime until I get the money for my next college course together.

I was impressed with the reviews and trailers (and some of the avatars used by members on anime forums I frequent) and I am impressed with the general Irreverence of KLK (Being Irish I love wise cracking and putdowns, not to mention general send ups).

I know I am somewhat bias, but you really should put Redline to the top of your list. It mightn't be the biggest story in the world (truth be told it is a story that has been told so many times before), but Redline makes no pretense that it is anything beyond a simple story. It simply wants to take you for a ride and show you what animation is and what it is for. It isn't just a palette to draw pretty pictures or set tension or emotion (Ghost In the Shell and Grave of the Fireflies have those covered), but it is a alive and very much kicking. The closest anime in comparison is Dead Leave, but where DL was simply different and bizarre for the need of it (it is a very funny, grossly irreverent anime that isn't for the faint of heart, traditional or serious high), Redline is grounded (kind of) in things we want to live and dream.

For the sake of 90 minutes you will have the ride of your life. No Bullsh*t, just action, a rocking soundtrack and characters you will love, be they hero and rival.

Sit down, Strap in and let your senses guide you to the Redline.

Hey 69-Black-69 your friend has arrived :) . Welcome to the forum FunkyRJ. Unfortunately I can't say I've seen it but it is pretty popular anime around here. You will certainly feel right at home :)

I don't watch much anime, i've watched Yu-Gi-Oh, Avatar the last airbender and Space Dandy.

Space Dandy is pretty decent and Yu-Gi-Oh isn't to be sniffed at either. I kind of fell away from it after GX. I would recommend (like a broken record in the first instance) Redline, Cowboy Bebop and Bleach (a bit marmite to some but not a bad anime even if it is choked occasionally with filler). All these anime are great starters or easy viewers if you are interested in getting further into anime or just want something to pick up and muck through. Outlaw Star is another anime worth considering for similar reasons. I will also be bold and suggest here ( www.uk-anime.net ) for a friendly anime community who are always willing to help and suggest new ideas :)

Yes, Jojo is the sh*t.
Still catching up on Stardust Crusader Season 1 though, so far so good.

The opening once again didn't disappoint. So freaking good.

Joseph Joestar is still the my favorite character ever, man.
Such a shame his favorite line in Battle Tendency doesn't appear on Stardust Crusader, but his 'Engrish' reaction makes up for it.

I'm catching up on SC season 2 but my brother pretty much told me a lot of what's going to happen. (he's currently at part 6 in the manga.)

My favorite character is the one and only:
