Why isn't there a PC version of Vice City Stories?

Recommended Posts

siberianfox

'Vice City Stories' and 'Liberty City Stories' were only released for PS2 and PSP. Does anyone know why R* chose NOT to release these games for PC and instead launch 10th anniversary editions of GTAIII & Vice City for Apple® devices? I know there is a VCS mod for PC but I'm talking about the official real game. And there aren't VCS or LCS for Nintendo DS either right? confused.gif

GTA Liberty City Stories and GTA Vice City Stories are both handheld GTAs. GTA LCS was released in November 2005 for PSP which explains the "simple" missions but it was ported to Playstation 2 and finally released in June 2006. GTA VCS was released in October 2006 for PSP and this game had "simple made" missions as well, because it's a handheld game and so it had to be between playable, but then it was ported to Playstation 2 and the release was in March 2007. So that means both games only were released for PSP and then ported to PS2 which explains why it was never released for PC.

Nice font color, how do you choose it? It's not in the default ones.

I just write...

...before my text and write...

...after my text. 13DAB9 is a HTML-Color and you can change it to your like if you scroll down on this webite and try all the colors and then just copy the HTML-Color code which usually has five digits but anyway that doesn't fit to this topic.

A Gta Vice City stories pc edition is being made by forum members here so technically there is a PC version.

Im guessing GTA VCS was a Sony exclusive which is why it wasnt released on the other platforms, Also these games werent as big so R* didnt bother to make port it to other platforms like the PC.

Sony holds a contract with Rockstar for Exclusivity with there consoles. Meaning, they contacted Rockstar and gave them a lump of cash to specifically develop the game only for Sony branded Consoles, mainly the PSP. It was done so Sony could finally get a "Killer Game" on the PSP to compete with other handhelds better. The success of the game led to Rockstar porting both stories titles to PS2. It is unknown if they will ever make a another Stories title or port them to newer consoles. But either way, they will always be Sony Exclusive.

Similar to how Nintendo has a contract with capcom to keep Resident Evil Zero and Resident evil Remake exclusive to Nintendo consoles.

Could you read previous posts of this thread instead of asking a dumb question?

These are Sony exclusives.

I get this feeling.......

Maybe Rockstar didn't release it, is because they didn't want people to MOD THE EMPIRE SYSTEM.

No no man and it's not entirely that way. confused.gif

Rockstar wanted to just release Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. For the PlayStation 2 system and PSP handle system. I think this discussion is over since some members already answered it way damn before me.

Well, they were Sony Exclusives, it was answered before.

Sony Exclusives for GTA? Please no, Sony should GTFO with that, I have the game on my PS2, but I would like it more on my PC...

It seems that GTA was meant to be a Sony exclusive from the point GTA Stories (LCS and VCS) were released.

GTA IV was meant to be a PS3 Exclusive, so this makes it clear R* was gonna make GTA a Sony exclusive.

Although, Microsoft payed $75 Million to stop GTA IV's Sony Exclusivity.

And I'm actually glad Microsoft did that because many people would lose interests in GTA, and only some would buy PS3s.

What I mean to say, GTA IV, EfLC, V and so on would have been available only on Sony's consoles.

God I hope I see VCS and LCS on PC one day.

I hope Rockstar realises that many people want to see those games on PC, as well as XBOX.

But why it was never released for PC?

Dude...

It was strictly said above. Sony went to rockstar and paid them to make a fully exclusive GTA for Playstation Consoles. It was LCS. They hold 50% of the rights. They then did this again with VCS. They own 50% of those rights too.

Due to this, they are legally not allowed to port it to anything other then Playstation brand consoles.

This is the same for Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil Zero. Nintendo went to Capcom and paid them to make those exclusive, which they did. Nintendo owns 50% of the rights to those 2 titles. Due to this, this is why you see those 2 games never made it to other consoles aside from the Wii and Gamecube.

GTA LCS and VCS are Playstation Exclusives and will stay that way.

GTA IV was meant to be a PS3 Exclusive

As much as i hate this, no, it was not. RAGE engine was built with Xbox 360 in mind, and GTA IV started development before PS3 even was announced. It was originally targeted for a 360 and PC release only until Playstation 3 was announced. It was never going to be PS3 exclusive.

No, i think the biggest problem rockstar has with modding is they want to try to avert another fallout like what happened with GTA SA Hot coffee because Patrick thought it was funny to release a mod to enable a porn game.

His mod turned bad for lots of us, because the game was pulled from most store shelves for a few months, then re released with a non moddable version.

Modding the empire mode would not have any negative outcome. Like residenteviloutbreak stated above, it's things like hot coffee that did any sort of damage.

As was stated above, the 'Stories' pack is a Sony Exclusive. Sony made a deal with Rockstar for a GTA to be released exclusively for a PSP, ending up owning half of the games' rights. And those games were GTA LCS & GTA VCS.

Of course, since PS2 is also a console released by Sony, Rockstar had every right to port it there, but since Windows or Xbox aren't a part of Sony merchandise, they did not port it.

And it has absolutely nothing else to do with modding the Empire system or anything else - plus, I guess, PSP game files can be modded (may be mistaken though).

Yes, its possible. Both GTA LCS and VCS can be modded on either PS2 or PSP.

For PSP it must be modded.

For PS2, it must have a hard drive, and modded.

There are tools for it, that i dont think i can link due to forum rules.

Short answer: Conflict of interest.

Conflict: Nobody wants to buy VCS, even if it was for PC.

Interest: Everybody is impatiently waiting for V. Or everybody is buyinv SA & IV for PC.
