Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The next Metal Gear Solid seems to be the best goddamn game ever out in history.

EDIT: As for the Ground Zeroes. It's definitely not going to be a short, few hour chapter for a price of a full game. If you recall it, Kojima said the Mother Base managing will be back and we'll be able to spend hundreds of hours on expanding the base and discovering the world. He also said something about controlling the MB through your mobile phone. That's an absolute reason that there's a great chance Ground Zeroes is going to be a game with long campaign and lots of stuff to do.

There are some theories floating around about Ishmael being an adult version of Chico...

It seems plausible considering the 9 year jump.

I think the base building might be Outer Heaven as opposed to Mother base though... would be kinda sh*tty to have the exact same feature as Peace Walker.

Well he told that you can explore the base so it'll be different. Also I'm most excited for developing the new weapons that was a really cool feature in Peace Walker (and that was on a PSP).

I actually think Ishmael doesn't even exist.

He doesn't.

Ishmael is a nod to Max in Sanitarium. And what was Sanitarium about? A coma fantasy!

Don't believe me? Just compare the two characters:

Look familiar?

It's so similar I don't for a moment believe it's just a coincidence.

Sitting on a toilet I came to a few conclusions and brought a quite a hypothesis: David Hayter could be featured in MGS V. Only, not in the role of Big Boss, but as Solid Snake. Below, I'll explain why I think it could be possible. I warn you though, to treat it lightly. It's just some thinking coming from my toilet. So I can be wrong. And I use to be wrong all the time.

1. In one of the interviews about The Phantom Pain, Kojima said how important is to mislead people with their trailers and stuff, so the final product is more surprising to the community

2. Before the official confirmation that The Phantom Pain is connected to the Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima lied in the interviews that TPP is not his work. It's an evidence he's not only capable of giving misleading informations to his fans, but he also like to lie. He could already tell bullsh*t about the timeline of the game: who knows if it won't take place in 1995 for example, after the ending of 1984 The Phantom Pain?

3. Hideo said he still has some story to say about Solid Snake and it's not the end for this character

4. At the same time, he denied as if he was interested in making a remake of the original Metal Gear games, saying that he would be more eager for the younger team to eventually participate in such project

5. In one of the interviews about Ground Zeroes, he said to expect a plot twist in style of Raiden in MGS2

6. If the series "go in a new direction" and for indicating this fact the English voice of Big Boss had to be replaced with someone else than David Hayter's to reflect the freshness for this game (Kojima said that in the latest interview with Geoff Keighley), why the Japanese voice actor, Akio Otsuka, wasn't changed for somebody else? In MGS4, the role of Big Boss took his father, Chikao Otsuka, so why in such a precious moment for the series Akio wasn't replaced even for him?

7. In the Japanese version of Metal Gear, all the sons of Big Boss, except for Liquid Snake, were voice by only one person - Akio Otsuka. In the English version of Metal Gear, every clone of Big Boss has different voice actors. That would be a fine explanation why Hayter had to step out in the role of Big Boss, to play Solid Snake. And that's why Akio Otsuka wasn't replaced, because he's naturally going to voice act both characters.

8. We had an alive Big Boss in MGS4 - Solid Snake in MGSV wouldn't surprise me!

9. The crying of David Hayter on twitter could be a part of the lying. He's an actor after all, so it's no wonder he was realistically sad in the latest interview about him not being in the game.

10. Do you remember this artwork? LINK: http://images.wikia.com/metalgear/images/7...u_dCQAAxaU4.jpg. It was shown somewhere around the date when Ground Zeroes was unveiled. It wasn't used anywhere from what I know. It's possibly the only photo of this graphics. Why Shinkawa painted young Solid Snake, 'coincidentally' when Ground Zeroes was announced?

It's actually not. They are two parts for the same game.

17:28, it's a different kind of metal gear game.

Sounds like Hitman absolution all over again.

I hope so... change is good. smile.gif

To be honest I don't think casual gamers play Metal Gear Solid due to their overly long cutscenes and intricate plots. You just have to look at the popularity of this topic compared to others like those for FPS games to see that. So why would they start now? The Metal Gear formula got pretty stale some time ago so they really need to freshen it up... nothing wrong with that. Hitman games were pretty sh*t before Absolution so they changed it up and made a great game. I expect this to be no different. Not that I'm saying MGS games were sh*tty I'm just addressing the Absolution reference.

To be honest, zancudo has some decent points.

But it is like I always said before when TPP was announced, you can never fully figure it all out because at any moment they can go back on their word and do the opposite or just all out lie just to fool everyone. There are no laws or structure we can trust with their statements when they have flat out lied before.

Hayter has not yet mentioned ground zeroes, as kojima does say it is separate, hopefully he should still be voicing big boss in that. Then after the 'accident' or w/e at the start of MGS5 which leads to the obvious voice change. Though I think it is a bad move totally revoicing him, I believe at times he should appear to have the different voice but most gameplay I think not. At least until he becomes a more less involved combat soldier and more of the big boss with the trench coat we know.

At least keep Hayter voicing until we get Solid Snake into the picture then I don't think people would care as much, it is just the thought of an MGS game without Hayter's voice in it whatsoever that scares people. Raiden didnt go down as well in MGS2 and we don't want that again.

But until we see some gameplay footage, anything is up for changing, especially that MGS5 is most likely next gen only with GZ being current, or multi platform. So we have alot of time and anything could change at this point.

Maybe they want to say Hayter will not be voicing big boss in MGS5 BECAUSE he will be voicing solid snake again. Seems to make sense to me and how I always imagined how the timeline should go.

MGS5 is at earliest has to be set in 1983, 9 years from peace walker, and we don't know how long ground zeroes will last, and Solid Snake was already fighting in desert storm in the early 90s same with liquid, so they could definately make them both co-exist.

To me that seems clear as day, Hayter won't be returning as big boss because he will be as solid snake. Because I sure as sh*t want to play MG1 or MG2:SS as a 3D snake.

It is also worth noting that Solid Snake didnt get that name until given to him by big boss when he joined foxhound in the mid 90s so hayter could be voicing a random Green Beret called 'David'.

I always thought it was stupid that Hayter voices both Big Boss and Solid Snake so personally I'm glad they're replacing him. I know I may be one of very few people who feels that way but I don't care and evidently neither does Kojima. New Era, new voice actor simple as that.

It has f*ck all to do with 'A new era'

In MGS4 they realized they can't have Big Boss and Solid Snake being voiced by the same guy at once. And that at some point they spoke in the past before during the first games, therefore his voice had to change, at some point, I get that.

But to me, aside from any feelings I have towards it, I see it as an illogical move.

Everyone bitched when David Bateson wasn't in role for Hitman, and why throw something away when it obviously sells?

Besides, I know he can't be done with snake, and any normal person could see that despite Kojima wanting to end metal gear with 4, he knows that he probably has to keep making them in some form, therefore the only eventuality is to end up to the point of remaking MG1 and MG2:SS.

Therefore getting Hayter back on for those seems like the obvious conclusion, otherwise it MAKES NO SENSE.

He will have to be on board for GZ otherwise no doubt fans will be "what the f*ck kojima? This makes f*ck all sense"

I know what the f*ck I am talking about, don't tell me I don't.

Sounds to me like both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain will be considered "MGS5" but will indeed be separate games. For some reason, since they're focusing on Phantom Pain right now, they'll probably release that first, then Ground Zeroes later (despite them chronologically being reverse that). Hayter only implied he wasn't in TPP, which we all believe to be post-coma. He technically has yet to comment on GZ (pre-coma).

I finished MGS4 yesterday. Really threw me for a loop. I thought many times to just read a summary of it online, but I'm glad I resisted that temptation. F*cking great game, good ending. I think I'll be getting the HD collection next week, and possibly buy MGS1 off PSN.

I saw a vid on youtube of the entire load of cutscenes for MGS4 all compiled together, think it was like 8 hours or something.

MGS4 I really didn't like at all, found it didnt line up with any of the other games at all, alot of it just pissed me off, even the gameplay.

As for GZ and TPP, I am pretty certain they already said GZ is for PS3+360, and TPP/MGS5 will probably be next gen.

I have always felt, from what I gather from everything I have seen and heard that GZ is the more gameplay and co-op orientated portion, more like PW was, then TPP becoming the true next MGS game with all the trimmings.

Because let's face it, if people did actually play MGS2 and MGS3, most probably didnt even bother with peace walker, so GZ will be a good refresher as it is meant to be "Right after" PW.

Hmm.

Well I guess that doesn't deny it will also be for next gen consoles, as if they are out the end of the year (which I doubt TPP will be done by then) then they must be.

Besides, who knows how long current gen consoles will be supported for, just like with the PS2, it had games released for it LONG after next gen consoles were out.

So probably by the time it is out most people will have new consoles.

It was just that GZ never mentioned PS4 or Xbox(next gen). Which led me to believe they would be out soon, at least end of this year.

But who knows, maybe they arent allowed to mention those yet.

I just really don't want to have to be buying games for an old console when they should be on new consoles.

I had that problem with MGS3:SS.

Hideo Kojima has posted an update on Metal Gear Solid 5 and it seems there’s a lot of work still left.

He has mentioned that mo-cap has been finished but the game is still incomplete, and has detailed the amount of effort they are putting in the game.

“Such a large-scale Mo-cap is all done, but the game itself needs more time to be completed,” he revealed. ”We still need to shoot game motion, in addition to voice recording, facial capturing. And moreover implementing those tremendous volume of data takes tremendous amount of time and effort.”

“If it were movie creation, post-production and editing will follow after shooting, plus adding audio but since it is game we have a lot to go. But still I feel content as this is the 1st end of phases,” he added.

“This time it took over a year including auditioning, 3D capturing, military training, reading, rehearsing and shooting.”

He also revealed some details on the mo-cap  and how they’ve hired foreign actors for the game.

“We have been doing Mo-Cap for over 14 years ago but every time we’d done a new challenge. This time we hired foreign actors except stuntmen,” he revealed. “They were wide variety of actors from America, UK, France, Holland, Hungary etc. We used neutral language to communicate but the emotion was tightened as one.”

The game definitely looks ambitious considering they are putting so much effort behind it, but as we know Kojima is very meticulous to details so it will certainly turn out to be an impressive product.

Nah, it has to be David, all the clues line up.

"I am the one you thought I would be from the start."

The voice pack he is using is called David.

David is 6'1."

The Japanese voice actor is the same for Big Boss, so why would Kojima change the American one?

David's weird tweets and him changing his avatar to snake.

David has done some acting in Hollywood as well as some animated movies. (ex. Devil's mile and Lupin III)

David posted he will not be playing Big boss on April fools day.

It's most likely David but don't quote me on that.

It's obviously David Hayter. Seems like Hideo Kojima again received some death letters from his psychopatic fans, who are serious to kill him if he won't bring him back to the game. Just like it was with MGS4 and a supposed death of Solid Snake and Otacon.

About the possible massive delay of The Phantom Pain - there's still a chance Ground Zeroes will be released this year as it's going to be distributed separately.

I heard that David Hayter himself protested the idea of Snake and Otacon being killed off at the end of MGS4 being that it was too dark an ending to finish the series off. Or so I have heard.

Well, it was basically a protest from many people around. Fans, voice actors, even the development team. Everyone was against that idea. I guess it's a little shame they've scraped it. Because the final ending, though beautiful and cheerful in a way, is very cheesy to be honest. Primarily because SPOILER, GUYS BB appeared SPOILER, GUYS

Metal Gear... It can't be!

(I just had to put some not-really-matching quote from the game, to express my incrementally rising excitement for the news that I believe will reveal David Hayter himself as the Big Boss' voice actor)
