Yeah, Quiet's a joke. Kojima's reasoning for her need to wear that bikini or whatever is such bullsh*t lol.

If Kojima absolutely had to give her such a God awful design, I maintain that the Afghanistan conflict should have been explored more, and Quiet made a victim of the Mujaheddin who was punished for dressing inappropriately. Boom. You have an excuse for why she dresses so ridiculous, you tell a more complex narrative about the wider Soviet/Afghan war and Quiet actually has a motivation and a character arc.

But Kojima literally put her in as fanservice, and didn't have the guts to just admit it.

Just getting through the Code Talker mission. And that first cutscene you get is just... come on. Kojima isn't even trying to be subtle with the camera shots.

I'll agree on that. Her character just feels like it was designed by a horny teenage boy. The amount of intentional ass and breast shots are just hilarious. Don't matter much to me though, I always take D-Dog anyawy. D-Dog is bro. Except when he walks over mines.

I physically (maybe not really physically) cringed when I figured out the trick where if you look and then zoom in on her in the helicopter that she stands up and practically shakes her boobs in your face.

I still like the character, but the dancing in the rain, and bikini and all that is super Japanese. Imagine how great she would be if she wore the uniform she wears in the prologue for the entire game.

If the story of this game was actually good, it might be one of the best games ever made. But once you realise you are doing everything for nothing for a story that is not only poorly written and presented, but what is there takes a huge sh*t on the legacy of the series and effectively ruins my enjoyment of the older games, you kinda have to abandon it and try to pretend it never existed and that Kojima was killed after MGS3.

In my headcanon, the ending of MGS2 graphic novel is the real one

Or, if you want to go Meta, play with the solid snake outfit, and pretend that GZ (the "shadow moses" mission with all the graphical glitch) and TPP are just a huge "Solid Snake Simulation", fighting against a virus that took over the virtual world

Trust me, the game made SO much sense this way

I'm kinda glad I wasn't a huge fan of the series before MGS5 and enjoyed the story. The antagonist and the political dilemmas were interesting and I liked most of thr weirdness. I'm not saying it's perfect but it was fun. I've finished MGS3 on the vita since then and liked that story more but I can't properly play on a vita so.. yeah, I prefer MGS5.

I know where you're coming from though, if they f*ck up a major fan favorite character or render the story as pointless in thr main canon, then the criticism is deserved. Not really affecting me though :p

That is the only way the game could be liked other than gameplay reasons I think. MGSV is enough to make a fan of the series wish he wasn't.

well... this game's ending is something.

Yeah, that's one way of putting it. All they had to do to win back some good will was have Hayter voice a young Solid Snake and have a final, unwinnable boss fight against him. Right from the start, people were suggesting this, and yet the end of the game - even if it had been completed as Kojima wanted - gave fans nothing they wanted. It was a complete sh*tshow from beginning to end. And all the worse because we see in the ending how great Kiefer Sutherland could have been as a fully evil Big Boss, but instead we play as a f*cking mute. What a joke.

Does anyone know what this version of quiet's theme is called?

it was played during the chlorine disinfectant scene.

I managed to get 100% completion yesterday. For my final verdict I'd say the game is amazing gameplay-wise, probably the best in the series with how fluid it plays. I love how much freedom the game gives you to tackle objectives.

In terms of story it's probably one of the worst in the series. Act 2 doesn't add a lot to the overall story, missions need to replayed for no apparent reason other than to extend the game's length, certain plotpoints don't even get resolved and the big twist at the end just feels forced and unnecessary. Also 157 side ops holy sh*t, that's just overkill.

also this (medium rare endgame spoiler);

I got myself a copy of the day one edition, though I'm going to wait since I already have a few games on the go. The wait's going to be rather unbearable though.

Chapter 1 is the best part of it. I bought it not because of storyline (which is kinda killed there), but for gameplay. Chapter two is pure filler, i can't understand why it exists. Doing same thing over and over and over again? No thanks.
The online part is just so bad. I've never noticed how bad game's AI is untill i was deep inside that FOB missions. I'd be ok with them spotting you through walls, but not when you're getting stun RGL spam against you. Also lags.
MGO3 is one of the worst multiplayer shooters i've played so far. Unbalanced, worst net-code and after that they let players with auto-aim ON and OFF to play on same servers.

this game was a complete letdown. I shouldve known it was free roam. Thats where they went wrong with this game imo. How can you have stealth in a free roam game, especially if the majority of the areas are open spaces? Its like GTA having a sh*t ton of militarized vehicles...oh wait...nvm...

Lets face it, whenever a company decides to go with a "new direction" it ALWAYS fails. Besides...what was kojima thinking? He said that MGS4 was meant to the last MGS with snake. He was really forcing everything into MGS5 just to continue a story that makes no sense...Heck, you can see that games like Peace Walker was a bad one too coz of the lack of some actions you could perform, the major decrease in the graphics quality and the fact that they removed cutscenes. New direction = "im too lazy to come up with originality"

I like some parts of MGSV but not all. Just a tiny tiny part. MGS with Raiden wouldve been so awesome before that other company took kojimas work and turned into that awful ninja gaiden game.

The problem for me wasn't quite the stealth + free roam. You can totally have both. My problem was the piss poor save system. Oh right, there was no save system, it was all checkpoint based. Bad idea for an open world game.

Uh, peace walker lacked that stuff cause it came out for the psp. For what it was, its without a doubt one of the greatest games to come out for that system. And the game did have cutscenes, it just used art style for it

Peace walker was made available for consoles though. No change. That art style doesnt count. It was a comic book thing. Had no cinematic/artistic value.

Had no cinematic/artistic value.Yes it was, and there was no change needed for it besides obvious upscale and control rebalancing (which made the game easier to play with a dual analog stick than how it was for the original psp)

And what you said doesnt decide what counts or does not count as a cutscene. They were scenes that broke up the gameplay to allow them to understand the story as they played. Thats, almost the textbook definition of a cutscene. It told it in a clear cut and straightforward fashion. Now not preferring that style I understand, but to not count them as cutscenes goes against the very definition of the word.

Thought I'd get back to TPP for the first time in over 2 years, been wanting to get back to S ranking all the missions and collecting any remaining trophies for so long (and now is the best time to do so as i've been playing through all the MGS games again since just before xmas, scooped up a Platinum for MGS2 and MGS3 in the process).

First thing i notice is the new stuff from updates like Challenge Tasks, I gained over 5 Million GMP, 150+ new staff, 100s of new vehicles and plenty of resources all at once for all the challenges i have completed. So that's made things a bit for fun, although i was forced into the FOB stuff since one of the updates, i was originally able to avoid doing the tutorial but reaping the benefits of having an FOB, without the threat of being invaded. But now there's no way around it, and i have to make do with being open to attack, but at least i can afford to get another FOB or 2.

So i spent like 3 hours in the menus leaning everything about the staff again, re assigning then, making way for new staff, and locking them in a contract to keep them from being lost etc...

I changed my emblem too, had a weird looking butterfly for some reason. Customised some weapons, started developing new a new FOB and looking foreward to getting back into some fun accessible stealth gameplay (and can't wait for gameplay that isn't frustrating because of dated controls and fixed camera angles)

Last thing is to look up a trophy guide to see how much of a challenge its going to be, 5 minutes in i realise a grave mistake, i removed the butterfly from my emblem and have now lost Quiet for good, i completely forgot that she was locked as a buddy while the emblem was there, and now that it's gone, so is she. And if i download my save from the cloud i'll lose hours of organising and customising, and i don't think i can be bothered to do that. But i may need her for some S ranking, even though i barely used her before, so not sure what to do right now, hopefuly decide before my save get overwriten to the cloud, or i could just back it up to a usb stick.

tl;dr I lost Quiet because i forgot the butterfly emblem was locking her in as a buddy.

EDIT: Never mind, i just found out about the update that allows you to get Quiet back by completing her first mission again a few times, guess i'm going to have to do that then. At least she's not gone forever, it reminds me of when i lost Lydia in Skyrim on a 200+ hour playthrough, without having enough recent saves to get her back.

If you're fully patched-up with the latest version (i.e., you aren't playing entirely offline), then you should have the update (1.06) that works around that.

1.06 added a thing that tracks how many times you've replayed Mission 7 (Cloaked in Silence - the first boss fight with Quiet) - complete it six times, and on the seventh, instead of saying [REPLAY], it changes to [REUNION]. Completing it this way adds her back to your buddy list.

(I suspect that this was something either planned from the start, or after realising the obvious: losing Quiet before attempting 100% completion probably makes certain missions a lot harder than they need to be...)

Yeah i have the latest version, that's the first thing i did after installing the game again. When i continue tomorrow i'll do "A Quiet Exit" and then try the Reunion thing.

it was the right thing to do really, giving us an option to get her back, even if it does reverse story outcome in a way, but being able to complete missions again kinda voids that anyway. If i completed say Mission 31 with Quiet, and then she left me as part of the story, but i replay that mission to get a better Rank, then i should have quiet available when i replay whether shes still around or not, although they could also use that against us and say you can only use weapons and equipment that you had available at time of completing the missions your replaying.

That's Video game logic for you lol, like i always wondered how many pilots and aircraft it would take to keep up with the demand of people flying up in the air attached to balloons within a short time (before the unrealistic wormhole fulton lol), one pilot will have difficulty catching everyone as they fly up, and would need to be on standby all the time snake is in the field.

Personally i hate almost everything about Quiet. I hate it how game forces us to follow with her storyline. I got nothing to symphatise to her. Her storyline is sh1t even for MGS universe.

A bad girl in cutscenes, but nearly useless in gameplay. The most usefull feature for me was scouting the outposts and placing markers. I couldn't find any way of cooperating with her. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but listening to a repeatative mumbling while you're crawling in dirt is annoying.

Devs told that players would be ashamed of accusing them using half naked characters. Ok, they gave her a reason, but what's the reason of her sticking her butt in your face while you're in ACC, or multiple times camera's doing close up on her butt? Parasites, son.

Also yeah, i don't like how FOBs are kind of forced thing to use. I was informed about them at the start of my gameplay and i wanted to avoid it too. But turned out that things are not that bad. While you're on low ranks you are less likely to be successfully hit, since there are tons of abandoned FOBs around.
Bad news will happen when you'll reach high ranks (my record was ~3k world rating, PC). If you wont have grade 9-10 items at the time, you're basically screwed. PvP will turn from something more or less interesting sneaking to Stun RGL spam and Jehuty stun locks. Half of people are real pros who can play blindfolded and other half are hackers (there's no anti-cheat system, you are free to use hacks).

So yeah, while you're on low ranks, you got nothing to worry about.

Quiet is arguably the best buddy in the game along with D-Dog. Once you unlock the covering fire ability, she can take down bases all by herself, either lethally or non-lethally without Snake breaking stealth;

METAL_GEAR_SOLID_V_THE_DEFINITIVE_EXPERI

On top of that her ricochet ability allows you to take down enemy helicopters without breaking stealth, which is really useful.

Her character arc isn't the greatest no, but then again none of the arcs in MGS5 are anything special to be honest.

As for FOB's I didn't put any time in it myself. I bought the first platform because after mission 22 it's pretty much mandatory. I put all my worthless combat units on the security team to beef up the level. Later I bought a second platform to get faster resource farming and processing. Don't think I've ever been invaded.

Konami removed every nuke today. Lol, is that their way to move players to Survive?

-Boss, it looks like someone's developed nukes again.
