  1. 1. Do you want the ability to play in the classic control system?

    • Yes, I prefer playing GTA the same way as III, VC and SA.
      33
    • No, I got used to the new system introduced in IV, and prefer it.

    • I don't care, as I enjoy both control systems.

    • I want a completely new system to cater for new features.

I don't know about you, but when I first played IV and learned the new control system, I found it a bit weird accelerating using R2 or RT, and those same buttons to shoot (I think).

However I did get used to it, but when I found out you could revert the controls back to the old classic version of the III-era days, I immediately applied them.

What are your thoughts and preference for V?

NOTE: THIS HAS BEEN BUMPED - TOPIC RESUMED ON PAGE 4

Just thought I'd resurrect this instead of creating a new thread as this is an element of GTA that's very important to me, and wanted to see what our newer members or guys who may not have seen this thread last year to give their thoughts. I honestly didn't like the newer system that was introduced in IV and really, really hope we get a classic option in V.

GTA IV control scheme.

It's one of those things that makes you wonder "how the f*ck did I play this with th previous control scheme"

GTA IV had it perfect, my favourite button for the instant cinematic view.

Analog triggers for driving is just awesome! Pitty the Wii U lacks it.

I'm good with IV's control scheme. It just makes it easy to shoot while driving. And when you switch to the classic controls, it feels awkward sometimes.

What if you can assign the buttons now?

IV's control system is good, because modern day controller's R2 and L2 buttons are really good for driving. Pressing a flat button to drive.. meh..

I like the GTA4 controls with an xbox controller. The only thing I struggle with is free aim from a vehicle, using a mouse to aim is so much easier. I guess that's the advantage of being able to switch instantly between keyboard & mouse and an xbox controller.

I will probably buy it for PC (when it will be released for PC), so I don't have to worry about the controls ^^

i would go with classic. that should have been the default option in IV instead of catering the these noob punk kids with their strange ways and none inverted y axis.

r1 aim and l1 shoot was a bit oddball though.

^^This. Much easier to feather the brake and throttle with L2/R2.

Well the A button on xbox (which is used to accelerate in classic mode) isn't just a click button. It is sensitive to pressure, so you can still control the speed, as with the X button for applying the brake.

I'm just used to classic system and really hope it returns, as long as it caters to any new features.

I did love the triggers for shooting in RDR and MP3 though.

IV's controls were fine. The there should still be an option for people that want the classic one just like they did in IV.

Controls of IV all the way. In the beginning it was awkward, but I couldn't go back to the classic controls now.

We dont have to worry either.. And everyone knows driving on pc is a bitch without a controller.

Not really once you get used to it (at least on the III era games). I can't say the same for IV because I've never played it on PC.

So True, with the triggers you could feel the acceleration of the vehicle at wat rate of speed you want it. biggrin.gif

I hope the vehicle controls are the same, using X/A for acceleration is stupid and does not allow you to control the throttle of the car as well as using the triggers ( why i hate driving on a keyboard)

Current system.

The triggers allow my thumb to be free to adjust the view while driving, more importantly shooting while driving. Try aiming when your thumb has to accelerate/brake.

EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY!

I get to control the throttle!

Definitely the current control system. It went along with the new graphics and game engine so well.

About three years after GTA IV came out, I decided to go back and play my old PS2 versions of 3, VC and SA, and I had actually forgotten that you gas and break with the cross and square buttons. It felt so primitive, it was really annoying.

I'd rather have the classic control system, because it's the same driving controls as what's used in Gran Turismo 5.

I don't really want to be switching control schemes...

Anyone who thinks that III-era controls were better for driving OR shooting need to open their eyes.

III-era controls were just a huge cluster f*ck of disorganization. To move the camera and drive with those controls, you needed to do some messed up finger yoga.

In IV everything was symmetical, organized and had actual thought into them, which is why they are MUCH better.

Why would anyone want to use the classic controls?

Matter of opinion.

We used it during the III era, and nobody complained. Some people, myself included, are just used to that sustem and prefer it.

If they use classic controls, it will really set the game back. Being able to limit how much power or braking by pressing the triggers either halfway or all the way down, etc. is a huge improvement over the III generation. It's just way too jerky driving with either 0% power or 100% power and nowhere in between.

Should it be an option? Sure thing. In fact, fully customizatable controls should be an option as well.

IV controls are perfect.

RT really feels better than pushing a button. it feels like a pedal.

shooting is the same. it feels more natural to pull a trigger than push a button
