This weeks theme was slightly different and slightly difficult. Their wasn't much you can do since your using someone

else work but still everyone showed some creativity and over all I have to say  once again, good entry guys!

I know I'm the topic creator, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. I've only done about 4-5 SOTWs, but its pretty obvious that most of the signatures are just images from Google. There really isn't much of a difference. There are a lot of funny pictures that members here on the forums created in the Screenshot Fun topic, unfortunately only a few were covered. And it's not like there's a shortage of variety or material...there are hundreds more to chose from, and a database on the front page to make it easy for people to search the good ones.

 

Plus, if you really want to test your skill, people should do SOTW no matter what the topic is. That's why I do WWE, Skyrim, etc. These are things that don't interest me, but I want to try to create a signature for any topic, mostly for the challenge of it all. So cookies for the people who did it and didn't like the topic. That's what SOTW is all about.

there is little skill involved in adding a text and border to an image. the sigs were always going to look tacky, because the pictures in your topic are tacky as f*ck. it's gonna be hard to make something presentable and creative out of gta 5 artwork that has a crude moustache poorly scrawled on it.

 

sotw is about challenge but with real themes, not just a plug for your topic.

Oh common... that's pretty much what SOTW is. People take an image, fool around with the colors, add a border, font, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with it- I do it too. Why are you being so critical?

 

Whatever. I don't care. I just thought it was different and creative. I'll move on.

it should be a choice at least, if you want to make something using an image pulled from google, or make a piece from scratch. you shouldn't be forced to use the sh*tty edited images from the 'screenshot fun' topic.

how long have i been gone? sotw should not be all about just adding a border.

The difference between you and me is, I don't see a problem with it.

 

Honestly, I think there is sort of an art to choosing the picture or image. 90% of signitures on the board (outside of this topic) are pictures found on the interent. Plagerism isn't the problem and it shouldn't be. They're just using the image as an expression, and not taking credit for it. It's just a signiture on a forum. No one is making any profit off of it. If they were.. that's when we get into legal issues.

 

When I originally made this topic, this is what I wanted to see. People taking stuff from the original topic, and add a little character to it. Summarize the comedy into a short 150 x 500 pixel signiture. But people were complaining about "we're just taking a picture and slapping a border around it." Yeah well, that's what SOTW is, for the most part. In the end, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Signitures are suppose to give people at the forums a little personality. Generally, they are just pictures on the internet that people feel as if they have a connection to them. They're essentially a name, but not in words, in pixels.

 

And the people who participated have my respect.

Honestly, no... not at all.

 

I take no credit for that topic. Weeblman is the real creator, and I've credited him for it since the very beginning. I loved Screenhot Fun IV, which is why I'm so obsessed with it. Anyone who was around those days would say the same. Second of all, the screenshot topic is 90% GTAForums. I didn't even create 5% of the pictures on the topic- so it doesnt really belong to me. It belong to everyone on the forums.

I liked this week's theme. I was just saying their wasn't much you can do with the images because I know that been going on alot lately, people

just taking pictures from google, sizing it down, and slapping a border around it! I did it once but I try to put some effort into SOTW. I find my skills are slowly improving and I'm starting to feel more confident in my work.

 

I was thinking about maybe talking to a Mod and see if it would be alright to maybe in place a SOTW rules topic and also there we could list the winner every week. Just a thought of course!

We already have two topics a week, I don't think we need another. If people don't like the theme chosen, they don't need to participate, and they definitely don't need to come in here and tell everyone about how they don't like it.

Well, opinions do matter, Unrated.

 

If everyone continues to use topics that are less appealing to most designers, then eventually the SOTW will eventually die off. They're simply trying to keep it going with new topics other than GTA themes or video game themes (which I agree, get boring).

 

I wouldn't mind joining in on the next one if a topic relating to football, music, art, history, women, free canvas, etc. was chosen. Makes for a fun and exciting challenge and to see the true talent in people.
