uzi 9mm
My ultimate goal -if we are able to destroy the actual environment- is to take out this: I want to blow the dam and have the water spill out into the city. Though I suppose destruction on that scale is in PS4 territory. Actually, probably PS5 territory! that kind of stuff won't be seen for decades, it takes a lot to allow destructible buildings. First the time it takes to add implement this feature, the game designers will have to go through ALOT to make buildings destructible, what we see in GTA is mainly a cardboard cut out city, hardly any of the buildings can even be entered, that alone is a task in itself, to go 1 step beyond that and allowing the buildings to be destroyed is impossible for a game on the the scale of GTA on the PS3. Secondly, the machines need to be capable of it, and it will take a very powerful one to do it, GTA gets slowdown when loads of peds are on the screen, imagine how much power it would take to allow a ton of peds on screen, cars, and buildings falling down, it's too much information to process. What we may get it destructible building to a certain extent. And probably to the outer layer of some buildings, like maybe some bricks falling out, bigger cracks than GTA IV's had, and little graphical techniques to give the impression that damage has been delivered. But skyscrapers falling down? Forget it, that's not for this era. Something always has to be sacrificed, like the amount of other things happening on-screen, the amount of peds, people always want big crowds of peds, for example, this is a major slow down, maybe R* would rather have this in their future games instead. there is a game where you can destroy buildings completely, i cant remember the name, i downloaded the demo a while back, really cool, any building in the game can be demolished, and it is fun, but it's the heart of the game, destroying things, GTA focuses on may other things. gta5freemode4eva
I would love it if the buildings are destroyable but I don't think we'll see it in this game
DoomsdayFAN
3) It would pretty much mess up the whole game, what if all of downtown is destroyed? Will you just continue with the game? How will you keep on doing missions? So many things that wouldn't work out in the end, so it won't happen, not even with next-gen GTA's. As I said in the original post, NPC construction crews would clean up and rebuild whatever was destroyed, like in real life. Only in the game, the time it takes would obviously be significantly expedited. And the size of the object would dictate how long it would take. As for missions, certain missions would become unavailable until the destroyed property was rebuilt.

The-San-Andreas-man
While I do want more destruction, what you described is impossible. A huge destructible building falling over and maybe even causing more destruction would require too much processing power. And I do think there will be better destruction this time around. I think they will incorporate destructible cover from MP3 (And maybe even expand on that with PhysX on the PC) and more destructible things like trees, shacks, and MAYBE small houses, but I doubt that. Mefris
Topics like this make my blood boil because OP just sounds like a terrorist. This is gta not '9/11 simulator' What you are describing with buildings actually collasping would be too hard for the engine to perform such a task Right,GTA is a killing simulator. Wait...what? While I do want more destruction, what you described is impossible. A huge destructible building falling over and maybe even causing more destruction would require too much processing power. It's been done before in Merc 2. Edited November 29, 2012 by Mefris
Signal1
While it would be awsome. People here are right. No way can current gen consoles handle it. R* could not even get fluctuating weight on characters to work. The tried and failed. Its stated in GI article. "We tried but couldnt get it to work how we wanted" Or something like that. No chance they can make buildings fall lol. Nooo chance.
DoomsdayFAN
So does 0:45 confirm more of the map will be destructible this time around?

YoungChrist
I'm cool with it. I hope it will be something like BF3, but with more destruction. also, Inb4 the " consoles can't handle it " remarks. But thats the thing though, they clearly cant.... The only reason BF3 has destruction is because theres no NPC's and on consoles it only maxes 24 players in game at once. While GTA has npcs, vehicles, randomized events..... like its just not realistic in any capacity. Especially when you consider Battlefield consists of small maps with some buildings (and most of the time not even all the buildings are desructable: see strike at karkand), GTA V is said to be RDR x5 in size. Its just not realistic man.

But if thats not what you implied then Im afraid you're wrong. He has a clear and obvious right to call American's stupid.
