I have the weird feeling that R* completely moved away from all the gang stuff, it became seriously boring with GTA IV, these gang stories are just always the same. It's a change from the usual themes that R* have done, but that's also what they're known for, trying out new things, and to me that's a welcomed change. Ehhh, Grand Theft Auto has & I strongly believe will always be a game where gangs play a big role, especially if it's set in Los Santos. GTA is a series themed around the criminal underworld and the criminal underworld is ruled by gangs, whether it be street gangs, mafias, or whatever. Your opinion on gangs in GTA IV doesn't really reflect everybodys opinion nor is it going to effect Rockstar's but I see your point in that a lot of the time the gang stories are the same but that is true for every story. There are no original & unique stories regarding anything anymore, everything been done before, but that doesn't take away the enjoyment of watching it play through, developing connections with the characters, etc. I can see gangs maybe not being as vibrant as they once were but to say they won't be present as they used to be? That's silliness I tell ya! Gang culture has never been more popular, the only difference is that gangs are a lot less flashy a lot of the time and are not really committing as many random crimes. Its part of Franklin's recent background, so I personally think there is no way they wont add them considering how big they are in LA. With that being said, I have no idea if they'll be part of the storyline, but they will be found on the streets. Also, I dont know about you but in IV, I had fun going into a gang territory, shoot my gun, have a group of them come at me only to get shot themselves by cops. Not so much anymore but there is still gang activity, they might not play a roll but I'm sure you will hear on the radio or watching the news about a gang war or something. In the gi magazine they clearly mentioned that youll see street gang members hanging outside stores such as the 24/7 one. Gangs wernt utilised well in Gta 4, but Rockstar have corrected this. We've already seen Ballas grafitti on a bench in the second trailer, and Franklins closest friend seem to be somewhat of a gang member..the theme of the game this time is more on higher scale crimes and robberies thouhh. They're an overused idea that's just been recycled over and over throughout the series. I'd rather do mafia (Still overused, but less so) or just have gangs be a background, like you would see in SA. You wouldn't be working with gangs most of the time; in SA, you'd see gang members walking around. I'd like Gangs to be present, but not so emphasized as in other games.
