GTA size competition

I was at a gamestop.com. And I looked at "Just cause 2". And it says the map size is 400 sqaure miles!!!!!!! And 100+ land, sea, and air vehicles'! And many weapons!

I hope GTA can compete with this. I want GTA V map size to be a couple hundred sq miles' have more than 100+ vehicles and 100+ guns. And so for future GTAs' also. Big maps, lots of vehicles', lots of guns!!!!!!!!

Dont you guys also want this too!? What do you guys think?

The Just Cause franchise is a sucky clone at best.

400 SQ miles is not happening, why? because GTA is about quality maps, not just 50 islands which all look the same.

Bigger equals better! More to explore......! Or do you want to drive around in circles and end up at the same place!?

Lol, I don't see how it would be any different to drive for hours and see nothing but palm trees. I'd rather have a smaller more detailed map.

I think this game will come with 2 extra more disks for the 360 version if it was any bigger

I went to look online and "Just cause 2" was only 6-7GBs'. So it might be a single disc for 360. Im not sure. But so if Just cause can do it single disk for xbox360 why not GTA!? icon14.gif

But bigger equals better right!? What if you could get both good detailed and big map!? Do you agree with me now!?

I know allot of people think that a map cannot get big enough, but I think that a map can indeed get too big.

Do you find it funny travelling for hours in real life? Would be anymore fun to do it in a GTA game?

I really enjoyed playing JC2, but the map is really boring. I prefer a map with lots of fun spots and different looking areas in GTA. If it's half the size it's fair enough.

I'm not going to comment on the map.

I can guarantee you that V will have a larger & more varied selection of vehicles than Just Cause 1, 2 & probably 3 combined.

The areas doesn't have to look exactly the same everywhere you go. It can be different. I just want a big map to EXPLORE!!! I didn't mean to say the whole 400 sq miles like in Just cause 2. I said a couple hundreds sq miles. At least 200 sq miles is enough. And with a big map you can have lots more fun spots....! icon14.gificon14.gificon14.gif

Read the news-section and articles. The GTA V map IS larger then anything R* created before.

And as always* there will be lots of stuff to explore

(* ok, IV didn't have that much, in comparison to SA for example)

The issue with Just Cause 2 was, although it was a huge map, the map was terribly bland and boring and pretty much all the same crap everywhere. The game had the worst car Physics and it was almost a chore to drive to place to place. I hate that game.

Sounds like you should stick to playing JC2 forever, as it's unlikely a map that large will be seen for a good while.

I remember seeing the same 100sq metre areas multiple times over, just copied and pasted again, there was also alot of randomly generated areas. That's why it didn't have many discs.

Rockstar don't half arse maps, GTA V will be big, but not overly big, but everything will look unique and fresh, hence it being a more enjoyable map to play.

JC2 was crap anyway

100+ vehicles for JC2?

Yeah right.. I played the game, and almost every vehicle is the same.. Take a roughly 30 different cars and motors.. And that's it.. Get out with your 100+...

It's nice to have a big map as long as it's interesting. Ok sure JC2 had a big massive map from what I know it was quite boring though.

It would be better to have a smaller but more interesting map to play with. IMO San Andreas was spot on, no boring bits. Everything about that map was interesting with no dull moments. It's all about 'use ability' -

Why am I driving this far? For what? Is this distance so necessary? What can I stop at to have look around at on the way there? What will I see during this long journey?

All these questions have to have good answers. No one, especially me, enjoys long boring road trips with no exciting scenery or fun things to look at. If you enjoy long boring journeys, then be a passenger on your local bus for an hour. See what I mean? It's boring. We get enough of that in the 'real world'. This is a game. It has to be more fun and enjoyable.

In conclusion, bigger is not always better or as I like to say "It's not the size of the map, it's how you use it"

That's exactly what JC2 feels like. Everything is the SAME, and you feel like you are going in circles. suicidal.gif

If you like extremely large and uninteresting maps, I suggest that you explore the entirety of a Minecraft map. One Minecraft map = 8 times the surface of the Earth. It should only take you a couple of lifetimes of utter boredom. Pretty much like in Just Cause 2.

GTA IV + SA + 3/5 RDR = GTA V.

GTA San Andreas, GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption combined. I know that you said "3/5 RDR" because Aaron Garbut said that GTA V will be as big as GTA IV, GTA SA and RDR combined including interiors, room to spare and the underwater world but you have to assume that all these games have lots of interiors and room to spare as well and GTA San Andreas had a big underwater world. Even if GTA V will have all these things more pronounced, I think it won't make two square miles of difference. Another website reported that GTA V will be as big as five times Red Dead Redemption.

I was at a gamestop.com. And I looked at "Just cause 2". And it says the map size is 400 sqaure miles!!!!!!! And 100+ land, sea, and air vehicles'! And many weapons!

The map of GTA IV is about 6.25 square miles big including the water within the map. The map of GTA San Andreas is about 13.9 square miles big and the water is considered as well. Red Dead Redemption's map is about 11-12 square miles big but only 60% of it are exploreable which means that the map is slightly bigger than the one of GTA IV, so 6.5-7 square miles to be more specific and here is the water considered again. If you calculate all this together then GTA V's map will be more than 25 square miles big (about 27 sqm with the numbers I have given). The map is so about twice as big as GTA San Andreas.

There were some map comparisons here after the Game Informer cover-story has been published. Here is what RockStarNiko's map look like.

Well, here's RockStarNiko's topic. Look at Magic_AI's post. But to be fair Magic_AI has "created" some more accurate maps, just look at his signature.

I have taken the maps of each game and scaled them each to a length of 300 pixel and it looks like this.

My map look less stretched so I think mine is more accurate than the one of RockStarNiko.

No, it doesn't. Only a moron would think better equals better. It's about the quality, not the quantity.

I'm pretty sure you could remake the Just Cause 2 map in Cityscape 1.8... Seriously though, Rockstar will make even the smallest of alleyways full of detail, because they take care in their work.

just cause 2 required air vehicles to get around. on JC2, there is 1 city and nothing else but endless boring country roads.

Yes it was a fun mess around game, as was saints Row, but rockstar shouldn't even be compared to them. Just Cause was a game of quantity and grappling. Saints row was about f*ck all, but Grand Theft Auto is about quality, detailed storylines and genuine, never ending F U N.

btw, get the scaling right. gta iv was smaller than that and rdr even more so.

(compare junctions etc to get the gta iv map correct) Sorry for my criticism, i admire you making that and i could never do it tounge.gif

I have corrected some things in my post as for example the images. I have made them again and the results are a bit different now. You have to assume that the resolutions of each image is different now which is the reason why the one that was not created by me is stretched while my comparison is correctly scaled. My image has a resolution of 900x300, and the other one has a resolution of 900x317. Edited by Carl CJ Johnsons Brother Brian
