To be fair I remember this as well. I also noticed that he is often given the title "lead character" in those character profiles they released occasionally based on Houser's interpretation of the characters, although I don't think this phrase came directly from Houser. Well he was the first CONFIRMED protagonist so I guess he is sort of the "main" one, though the game will possibly focus on all three equally.
