I decided to wait until the final few days of November to create this topic but i kinda feel cheated. The reason i say this is because rockstar told us that in November we would be getting loads of information but in truth we got 1 week of information (which was amazing btw) what disappointing me was that i expected information to be given by rockstar directly on their site not many different publications giving us the same story over and over again with rare new details.All of these stories where just worded differently and this confused me at some parts because one magazine said we could do this and another said they saw that, for example when game informer described Trevor lighting the truck on fire i wasn't sure if they meant that the tester did this on his own free will or that it was a mini mission.

 

Personally i loved the new trailer it was just what we needed to kick start a ''month of GTA V''

What i did not like was the many screenshots of the helicopter flying over the city at different angles or locations in the city they became stale quickly, i understand rockstar cant just show us the whole map at one time. i enjoyed the 10 screenshots we got in august much more because they were varied and showed us different locations, more than half of the 50+ pics are shot in the city which is great but im not going to spend 100% of the time there if the map is truly big then you should be able to show us nice key parts without revealing any major landmarks ( for example the giant chicken from SA)

 

My last complaint is i wish all of these magazines had spread themselves apart because we got all of the magazines ( apart from game informer) on the Monday and the rest of the week screenshots. if information had been spread out throughout the month i would still be hyped right now but im not, don't get me wrong im going to buy this game and play it for years to come im just critisizing how the supposed month of info went down.

I mean c'mon, being disappointed that R* doesn't show the whole map at once? That alone is the strangest thing to be disappointed about, like any other game developer shows off their whole game months before, where's the fun then in exploring the game world if you already have all the information.

 

They should keep more things a secret, let the player explore them once the game is released. That's way more fun than spoiling everything months before.

As it's GTA we're talking about, I honestly think we did get a lot of info. Many other game developers like to more or less tell us the entire story way before release, but R* wants us to experience V with as little information as possible beforehand. They obviously have to tell us the basic setup so that we don't lose interest altogether, but we will discover many, many features in the final game. That's good imo.

I didnt say i wanted rockstar to show the whole map at once. i meant that I know they cant do that because it would ruin the hype they should show other places other than the city i would have been happy with 20 screenshots that were a mix of the city countryside and desert

It's just some kind of strategy they are probably following. Or maybe they are still working on parts outside the actual city, and don't want to show them off yet.

 

Just remember the picture with the tennis court, where the house and trees next to it changed in the Trailer #2. I'm quite sure they have their reasons.

 

I could understand your reasons if we were a week away from release, but there's still soooo much time, and they just want to keep the people being hyped until the release, so they'll just release the information in little pieces.

I wanted to address some of the things you said and give my thoughts:

 

1.) "Similar screenshots of the helicopter scene"

 

Most of these screenshots were related to the press demo that various publications wrote about. It was great to see them in a related way in that it put what was being written about into perspective. From the screens released, there were a few wide shots that actually showed quite a bit of the game.

 

2.) "Everyone wrote about the same thing."

 

The reason for this is quite simple. All the publications had access to the same press demo that showed the same thing. This is very normal for every lead up to every GTA game over the years and also for other games within the industry. It just seems weird to you because you are a big fan and wanted to see new info come out from different publications.

 

3.) "The information came via publications and not Rockstar"

 

That's always how it's been for the first preview. Sure, Rockstar has a big following, but the idea with press writing about the press demo is a combination of the fact that they market the game to a wider audience who don't necessarily stay tuned to Rockstar's official pages, as well as the fact that it gives an impartial feel to it where people can give their own impressions on how they felt about the game, rather than it coming off as a company giving talking points if they showcase the game.

 

In fact, things have actually been a lot better than they were before. It usually was where magazines wrote about a press demo, and that MONTHS later online publications write about the same thing. This time it was pushed more closely together and not spaced out so much, so things have actually gotten quite better than what they were before.

 

 

4.) "Rockstar should have showed more of other areas."

 

This is very early. There are going to be more previews and more screenshots and videos released over the next few months up until release. We have 5-7 months ahead of us. More areas, like with the countryside and desert, will definitely be shown. We can't get everything now.

Oh i understand what you mean. What you're saying (if im correct) is that they have probably finished the city to a stage that they dont want to change anything anymore, so now they can show it like what they were saying in that Max Payne Q and A months ago .Until they finish the countryside and other areas to that stage they cant show it at this moment in time.

Pretty much the more R* shows of the game, the more disappointed & letdown we will be when we finally get to play it. Like you said, they will only end up showing stuff that eventually gets excised from the final version. Just look at how much irrationality was shown by 'fans', when the final build of IV didn't have fingerless gloves.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, R* has never let GTA disappoint me since III, and these previews have been the best I've ever seen, so they wont disappoint me this time either. I've yet to find one single thing that I think could ruin the gameplay for me in any way shape or form.
