I cheat when I get frustrated with dying ( 3 Leaf Clover ) or when I want to putter about. I agree with the earlier post about dedicated servers with cheats enabled/disabled.

The only times I cheat in GTA are when I'm attempting a timed driving/flying mission like Espresso-2-Go or Demolition Man, but I only need cheats for them on PC.

I tend to wait until after I've completed the game to play around with the cheats. Even then the only cheats that interest me are the ones that alter the experience in a unique way, such as the one in Read Dead Redemption that gives the game an old fashioned sepia look. Of course the spawn cars cheats, which if I remember correctly don't affect achievements, are handy.

Extremely dissapointed by those results! Why would people defend using cheats? If you are cheating, you are NOT playing the game as it was intended. You are missing out on core elements of the game. Sad, really. Especially when people like a game so much that they sign up and hang out on the games forum then they go off and cheat their way through the game?! - Referring to those who will cheat for health and weapons. icon13.gif

Just like the traditional desert after dinner practice, I never use cheats during the initial playthrough. Once the main storyline is complete, I will use cheats. Hoping for some good ones!

People like to play the game their own way. Just because you don't want to use cheats doesn't mean it's wrong.

I sometimes use a cheat in a mission if it's a really annoying. Sure, I know I can beat the game without using cheats, but I would rather use a cheat to get through that annoying mission quickly rather than having to retry it over and over.

And outside of missions, I use cheats all the time. I may not want my car damaged and a stupid AI driver will smack into me. Health cheat comes in very handy.

I dont think i would have even got any other gta after GTA III if it was not for the cheats, it's what made the game realy fun for me.

So if they where to say that they dont put cheats in the next game then i would not get it.

I play the story without cheats, but while doing it I will use cheats sometimes when playing around, but I will not save the game after that, so it won't affect the story.

Where is this option?

If the people who make the game include cheats, they obviously intend for these cheats to be used by whoever wants to use them, so then how is it not playing the game as it was intended?

Also, the point of playing games is to have fun. If people who cheat think cheating is fun, then how are they not playing it as it was intended?

I'll cheat before i finish the game. Always have, always will.

I think its clear that using a cheat itself in the previous gta's was a punishment it self.....as how we were unable to do some missions with cheats from a previous save, So if even if cheats are prohibited i bet the modding community will help us win that experience of cheats (btw im not sure how many people here play on which platform, but i guess its the PC Version because gta is always great on the pc with the mods i guess..........Just like the whole fallout community.)

I prefer to play without cheats. On rare occasions I tried them, but I never saved game with them. For me personally they are fun only for couple of minutes, then it gets boring.

I hope it's like in RDR where you can't save the game with cheats enabled.

I hope it's NOT like that. Why do u want cheats to restrict people from saving? are u one of those elitists who think cheats ruin the experience of this super serious game? During the story, I'll put in some cheats like weapons, spawn vehicles/planes, money, and no cops cheat. Then, I'll save the game.

Nah, it's just easier for me, I only use cheats after the game is done without saving.

I think cheats should be in, which they are. I really don't care how you play the game.

Cheats are called cheats for a reason. I'm specifically talking about people cheating to get cash to get guns and or property or anything you can buy. You are cheating the economy in the game. You are not playing the game to get the cash to buy the items. You are typing in some codes. Cheating. I'd bet my life on it the Housers would verify this if they had the chance.

Cheats are fun when so long as you are not doing it to actually cheat through the game.

Examples

A. Buying property. I saw a house I really wanted. My funds were low, so I robbed people, did some missions, robbed some houses and got some cash. I was really satisfied to buy that property. It was rewarding. I played the game to get that sh*t and now I'm a boss. It gave the economy purpose and more immersion.

B. Same scenario but I do instant money cheat. I buy the property, completely bypassing the economy, pursuit of the almighty dollar, if you will.

I much rather A to be honest.

Difficult mission and you keep dying? Change your tactics. It's more satisfying when you beat it. biggrin.gif

Bullsh*t, it's people's preference accept it. You have "boundaries" against cheats. Whoopdy doo. Some don't is it that hard to understand?

While anecdotal evidence is meaningless, out of the 9-10 people that I know that owned/previously owned GTA:IV, only 2 of them actually bothered to beat the game. The rest were primarily focused on driving around/killing/causing mayhem. We all used cheats, too.

I'd wager to say that the vast majority of the 20+ million people that bought GTA:IV are casual gamers. While there might be a few whiny people trying to tell people how to play their game on an internet forum dedicated to that particular series, the vast majority of the people that own the game are only interested in one thing: fun. As a matter of fact, I remember seeing an article from some Microsoft analysts saying that the vast majority of the people who played GTA:IV didn't actually finish the story:

Thumbs up on that. I can understand not wanting to use cheats before the story is finished, but after? C'mon, GTA is almost made for cheats.

Ive always used cheats to beat the GTAs. Not that I can't do it without, but it just makes the game a lot more enjoyable for me. & well, games are meant to be fun, sitting there stuck on a mission for an hour +, I really don't find fun. tounge.gif

I will use cheats for the whole game, BUT NOT to beat the storyline. So I voted "Use cheats after the game is finished."

If IV is anything to judge by the missions will be pretty dang easy anyway, removing any challenge at all makes playing missions pointless.

This topic again... I like reading all the holier than thou comments of the non cheaters.

I cheat on all the GTAs. But its when I am rampaging during free roam, after work, drinking a beer. It sucks to run out of rockets during a six star wanted level biggrin.gif

I have had to use cheats to beat some games, but thats because I had to or I never would have seen the end of the game. Like Turok on N64 for example.. I'd rather cheat than not be able to finish the game if it comes to that point. And to those of you who will say I just suck at games. Yup, I do. What of it?

I didn't use cheats when playing GTA I, II and III, I used cheats heavily with Vice City, I somewhat used them with San Andreas, not at all with IV + EFLC. We'll see what it will be with V.

And I couldn't care less what people do with their single player game. Just have fun with your purchase, ffs, no matter how...

I understand this but I never thought GTA is that hard. Most of the hard parts for me are things that cheats wouldn't really help. Like that mission in SA where you had to drive a long the side of the train while your pal and shoot the dudes on the train.

My original comment was maybe a bit harsh. I've nothing against people using cheats to get through the game. In the above examples, spawning cash for properties etc, I think it's wrong. I mean people can do what they want. I just think they are short-cutting through a good experience. Personally, I wouldnt do that.

It's not a hollier-than-thou thing either. It's you inferiorty complex! tounge.gif

Seriously though, GTA is my favourite game so I'll play it without cheating for my opinion of maximum pleasure.

@kifflom: And now I'm close-minded. Far from it buddy. You know that.
