IMO 3 protagonists is the best number. It's enough to make game interesting, but at the same time it's not too much.

NO!!! The guy driving the truck is franklin. He is built muscular, You can see that in the driver seat and the other guy is skinny, Besides Not the same guy anyways.........

Franklin how so when he coming out the van in that case who is the black guy coming out of the van. Mad in the new trailer Franklin has no tats on his arms. Franklin is clearly in the trailer in the red car, and in driving the van.....Even in the trailer he looked so damn different than the blacker guy

You don't actually see Micheal exit the van. He could possibly be the driver.

and a character can change over time... if they design him then after using him in gameplay doesn't seem 'fit' for the role they would change the look of a character. it happens all the time, gta5 has been in development since 2008 (I believe) we don't honestly know how old the first trailer was .. just because they released it in november 2011 doesn't mean it was made then at all.

I was thinking about this 4th protagonist yesterday and I think there's good chances for getting a cop character as DLC.

Here are my thoughts:

 

- each GTA seems to be heavily inspired by a movie. The examples I know are Vice City, obvious Scarface, and San Andreas, related to Colors, Menace II Society and so on. GTA V seems to get its inspiration in Heat. In the movie we have Al Pacino and De Niro, the first being a cop and the latter a bank robber and both are the main protagonists. If R* got its inspiration in the movie, they at least thought about having a cop protagonist.

 

- the "play with the protagonist and antagonist" thing. obviously they were talking about the main game, but a cop character would further expand this idea

 

- the technology is ready. if they can make 3 protagonists, they can make 4, 5, yadda yadda yadda. And since they will make DLC, why not make a new character?

 

 

Maybe I'm completely wrong but the 4th protagonist is an obvious way to expand the game. Specially a cop, GTA never had an undercover cop as character and R* like to do new kinds of protagonists.

Yeah that's probably it. Although I don't get why that would be the way to enter multiplayer because whenever you wanted to change characters on mission you'd be highly likely to hit multiplayer. Maybe it's greyed out because it's nothing?

 

I like to imagine that on occasion there would be a fourth character to play as. So pretty much anyone who's on a mission with one or more of the main protagonists. Chop, Lamar, Jimmy, Trevors conspiracy theorist friend.... anyone. Probably not gonna happen though, but I'd be super happy if this was the case.
