fridaynightscream
We all know and love them from GTA: San Andreas. But lets talk about the REAL National Guard. Is anyone here in it? If not, are you thinking about joining it? I'm thinking about joining it cause I really wanna unleash my inner warrior and test my survival skills, and I think joining the National Guard would be a perfect way how. If you're serious, you should understand that you aren't really going to be unleashing your "inner warrior" in the National Guard.
Finn 7 five 11
No need to join the national guard. First off you must get a heshen potato sack, cut leg holes in it and then wear them like shorts, you will need a rope for a belt, you may choose to wear underpants, but they won't last long. Next take your shirt off and rub some mud on your chest, then you'll need a hatchet. Once you have these things fly over some giant canadian forest on your summer holidays and have the plane crash, then, you must learn to survive. Hatchet. MIKON8ERISBACK
Yeah I think I heard about them before I started playing GTA San Andreas when I was 11. They call then "Weekend Soldiers" because of the Grove Street Families' superior firearm stockpiles and weapon skills, although Ryder is never anything to write home about when it comes to weapon skills, most of the time because he's high virtually 100% of the time. If your thinking about joining it, just remember that military training will be extremely stressful and unpleasant. Remember that your wearing the EQ of a coat and snow pants in >110 degree weather in places that enjoy some of the hottest climates on the planet. Oddsock
You should talk with a member (NOT a recruiter) before seriously considering joining. Know what you want to get out of it and what you want to do with it. It's a serious commitment and you should be doing it for the right reasons. Oddsock
You do understand, ryuclan, that the National Guard trains just as hard as active duty Army recruits? Additionally to the OP, I would say wanting to "unleash your inner warrior" is not a good reason for joining. If you think it will give you a sense of discipline, motivation, and confidence, then go ahead, but you shouldn't be trying to unlock some more aggressive version of yourself. You're not very smart, are you? Again, their basic training is THE SAME, you dumb c*nt. It is their level of participation in their military career that is different as you are trying to argue. Even then, I wouldn't downplay the choice that maybe people want to serve their country but follow another career at the same time. There's nothing wrong with that. By the way, you can thank my "weekend warrior" brother for being there to guard your judgmental little hide and for serving our country and the Afghans on his tour in 2010. I never called the guards weekend warriors. The picture was sarcasm and the 2 days of training a month after BCT is true. Dont act like you anything about me. lil weasel
The really bestest part is when you finally get a really great job. You get called to active duty. And when you get back your job is forfeited. The U.S. has a law that says they gotta give it back, but they show how your job was necessary for the business to survive so You had to be replaced. Now it wouldn't be fair to dump the other guy because he has a nice home, wife, and four kids, and You're just you. The skills you developed as NG have no place in the real world market and the ones you HAD are outpaced. Better you should just Join the NAVY and stay there for 30 years to retire as Master Chief with some money for little real labour and the mess is better too. sivispacem
And when you get back your job is forfeited. Really? I thought it would be like every other civilised country on the planet where the law is such that they can't remove you from a role if you are a military reservist, but they can dock your pay accordingly for the time you don't actually work. This is true. But if you're really thinking about joining this is not a bad way to do it. When I was in BCT I was really envious of the reservists because I was really homesick and I knew they'd see their families so much more than I would. But this is a huge, HUGE f*cking decision for which you should research every possible thing you can. There are a lot of blogs for military families in which people are very honest about what to expect when you ship out. I would suggest looking at those well before you step into a recruiting office. Because once you cross that bridge the phone calls, reminders, and Army paraphernalia will not stop pouring in.
DarrinPA
You should talk with a member (NOT a recruiter) before seriously considering joining Recruiters will lie to you no matter what, and they are allowed to. So if you sign up and say to your commanding officer something like "My recruiter promised me that I wouldn't be sent to Iraq" be prepared to be laughed at during the entire plane ride to Iraq. Deffpony
deffpony on this forum was in the U.S. National Guard. This happens all the time... I was in the Coast Guard. Huge difference. I have a few friends in the national guard. I dont know much about it other than its like halfway joining the military. The way I see it is if you want to shoot guns and "fight" the enemy join the Marines or the Army If you want to be out at sea for 6-9 months but also travel the world join the Navy. If you want to have a desk job with all the benefits of the military join the Airforce If you want to save lives rather than take lives join the Coast Guard And if you think you want to join the military but arent sure... go to school, get an education, let some professor tell you how to think, and "find yourself". The military isnt a place for soul searching, and the national guard isnt for people who want to be weekend warriors.
ForumName
I for one am joining the Air National Guard. Here in Louisiana they will pay for 100% of your tuition in state colleges. Not only that but I will be in College ROTC so I cannot be deployed....According to the conniving recruiter anyway. All I'll have to do is go to the base a few hours a month. Even if I am deployed, it's called the Chair Force for a reason. So yeah, I'd suggest doing that.... Edited November 26, 2012 by ForumName

The Navy and Coast Guard have excellent pilot programs(because they are the same). I have logged a few hours of flight time with an instructor. It is simply too expensive to get a full fledged license though. There is a small airport near me and it cost something around $175 an hour for flight time alone. I haven't priced how much it costs to get the classroom hours though. Furthermore, I have considered the Navy though the Air Force seems like the best place for me. I am in my fourth year of AFJROTC at my high school so I might as well join that branch. .

Schemer
National Guard sees action now and then but not much, probably depends on your MOS ... I would never want to be in the National Guard though. My close uncle is a Staff Sergeant and deployed a few times over seas but with active units. Now he is in a National Guard unit to finish his time till he retires. From what he told me he misses active duty and deploying. My self, I'm going into the Marine Corps in a year maybe a few months (still thinking when to enlist). Personally if I'm going into the service I want to serve with the best and get the most experience. Also my grandfather served in the National Guard but that was when the military was nothing like it is today. He's not a huge fan of the idea that I want to enlist and he is defiantly no happy I want to be a devil dog. Guess he don't want to see me going down range, but most of my family are pretty happy and supportive.
