copperrobber
Dan said the game will be as the length of Red Dead which is only about 50 missions, and thats half the missions of any other GTA, which in my opinion is kinda sad, i want a long story ! what do you guys think ? Finn 7 five 11
Can anyone confirm what the OP is saying? With perhaps a link. If it is true, well it doesn't seem right especially when we got three different protagonists on hand. By the way people, stop putting RDR spoilers. Columbo
It does seem a tad bit short. However, if that's what it takes to have a HUGE map with lots of detail, then I can live with it.

copperrobber
about average, GTA IV was 40-50 hours and RDR was about 15-20 hours, if you look up what most people have said what time they completed the game the first time.
TheGodDamnMaster
Quality > Quantity. R* said mission variety is of great importance this time, so I'd much rather have 50-60 missions that are very well done, instead of a bunch of drive and shoot missions like in GTA IV. From what I remember, Dan said that the game is 25 hours. GTA IV was a little longer at about 30 hours and it had 90 missions. So expect around 75 missions for GTA V, which is plenty. Plus, you won't be playing straight through the story in a single session because there will be a huge map with a ton of activities. Hurrikane
I would myself rather have 40 or so missions, that have some bulk to them, with two or three layers to each mission. Remember the mission being shown to the press it has you metting up with the three protags, fying over to the building, rappelling down, then taking out the guys after the hostage is captures, while then flying a helicopter and being chased by one, and you have a couple options as to what to do with this one mission. So with this small sample, it has a couple layers to it, and one would think the heists will have many layers to them, going through the process of a couple steps to complete the mission. killahmatic
To people who are worried about the number of missions: Maybe less is more. If you remember from past GTAs, there always seemed to be about 5-10 great missions, 20-25 good missions, and the rest seemed to just be fillers. You could have 100 missions in the game and only 25% or less would be memorable. Maybe, just maybe, instead of a lot of dull missions, they'll have a larger amount of good-great missions. Plus who knows.. Maybe side missions such as random peds are a bigger deal than they were in IV. The missions that the random peds gave out were almost always boring. EDIT: Obviously people before me commented similarly. yes, Quality>Quantity sums it up nicely.

greenrock
seeing as most missions will involve all 3 characters, doing different stuff.... replayability is pretty strong

Space Cowboy
I doubt there will be only 50 missions. I would be happy with 90 or so, considering that we will have multiple protagonists that will add replayablity to game.

Exactly this here, I would 100 times over rather more variety than the IV style missions, San Andreas may have had a ridiculous and kinda lame storyline but at least the missions were fun and varying, 25 hours is plenty for storyline, most campaigns are well below that, and too long and it drags out a bit. Also someone mentioned 3 part missions, those are great, it's not just one objective, you do several things in one, which technically could be classified as more than one mission. Johan
I forgot how many missions RDR had but it felt long to me, and I was playing it none stop and it took about 2 full days to beat it.. that's pretty good IMO so it doesn't bother me if V is the same. TotesMagotes
Probably in the minority here, but i really don't care about missions in GTA. Can't remember the last GTA i actually beat. GTA357
This seems really weird to me... Rockstar added 3 protagonist instead of 1 so how can the story line be so short? I'm starting to hear more dissapointed news lately.
