It's about steeling cars not spaceships, killing people not alians or robots. I can guarantee you that no GTA will be set in the future. But a sci-fi and/or futuristic GTA? No. GTA's core is all about the satirization and parody of post modern America. That kind of humour only really works when your audience is familiar with the subject matter your satirizing. So putting GTA into a futuristic setting doesn't really work for that very reason. The only way you can satirize sci-fi is if you directly parody pop-culture such as Star Trek, Star Wars and so forth. And if you're doing that, you're not doing a crime game any more. If someday Dan Houser or some of the other big shots at Rockstar has a compelling way to do a future GTA I doubt they would pass on it. It's just that... well GTA is meant to be a parody of the real world, how can you make a parody of the future given that it is still an unknown? What references could they make when they'd basically have to invent their own universe? So, when you think about, GTA is not tailored for future based games. The lucky thing, though, is that there are plenty of places in the real world, in real time, that can be very good for GTAs. For example, what about Washington? Since we already played GTA games set in the past, the only viable option is to look towards the future. A futuristic GTA game would have all the hallmarks of a GOTY game and the most profound GTA game we've ever seen. Futuristic GTA would have: -Space weaponry (plasma blasters, rail cannons, lightsabers etc.) -Multiple planets to explore, as opposed to simply having multiple cities. -Space vehicles (hovercrafts, star destroyers, all manner of spaceships.) -Planetary-scale heists (blowing up a planet without a Death Star) -Wormholes, blackholes -Spacegambling -Spaceprostitutes and spacewhores (sexy futuristic outfits on genetically-enhanced women ) Rockstar have plenty of real life cities left to parody.
