Helping the police?

I'm almost positive I remember in Vice City helping out a police officer catch a bad guy he was chasing and I was praised for it. Is this a true memory and can we do it in IV?

I've tried helping a police officer in IV (I saw him shooting at a guy) and I started to shoot at him also. Then, the cop started to shoot me, too! This kind of stuff doesn't happen often, so I can't really test it. So, I'm not sure if I was doing it wrong by shooting and maybe I should of just punched the guy a bunch.

So, can we help cops out in IV like I think I did in Vice City?

No you cannot. There are mods out there though. Like being a cop yourself.

You can get a never wanted script and use it and if you see a person running away from a cop you can stop him by hitting him without the cop bugging you but there is no reward.

You were right about Vice City, you would get a $50 Good Citizenship bonus for killing fleeing criminals.

Unfortunately this feature isn't included in GTA 4. However, you can trip up the criminal so that he falls and the police officer catches up to bust him. You will not get a star or money, but the officer will occasionally say something like 'Thanks buddy, we need more men like you I'm the force'.

While it is true you cannot "help" Police, per say , you can punch a guy and when he fights back run to the nearest Police Officer or Patrol Car, and let him hit you. The Police will then make him throw his hands in the air, and then you can enjoy one of their many phrases (EG; Oh stolen credit cards eh?) and then he will be escorted to the nearest Police Patrol Car.

I do this for kicks sometimes.

You CAN get praise from the police in IV.

It is just very difficult because you can't hurt the purp (if you do, you get the wanted level).

The way to do it is to knock him over without hitting him.

You can also get the police to put the criminals in your police cruiser.

How does this work? You just park a Cruiser next to the Arresting site?

In Vice City you actually got $50 for each time you punched the criminal. I remember I'd make 300-400 or each criminal and went a shopping spree in the ammu-nation.

I hope they bring it back in GTA 5. It would be cool if you got a bit of cash for beating up a fleeing criminal or getting a old womans handbag back.

Not sure what their source is, but they claim Ammu-Nation is back.

I was talking about bringing back good citizen bonus. Ammu-nation has been confirmed in the GI. This confusion made me giggle tounge2.gif

You would only get praise from the police officer if you manage not to hurt the suspect. You can only knock him over or stop him somehow. I remember I accidentally knocked over a running suspect once, so I got thanked by the officer for it. I think it's really cool.

I'll tell you what is funny ... pushing a ped into a police officer and then the police officer arrests the innocent ped

It's funny to see how useless the cops are in those kind of situations, considering the fact that a minor NPC street thug can take out half of the LCPD with relative ease.

Yes. Say for instance a cop catches a perp and has him held at gunpoint, you can park a Police Cruiser or a FIB Buffalo next to the arrest, the cop will walk the perp over into the backseats of the vehicle. At this point with the perp in the back of the car, you can leave the car with the cop, who will then climb in and drive off.

GTA Vice City, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories all had this feature because they all used the same code.

More proof to this is the way Tommy, Tony and Vic hold there guns the same exact way, and how with trainers you can spawn the GTA VC helicopters in GTA LCS and VCS on PS2 with codebreaker cheats. Nothing new there.

GTA 3, SA and IV all have there own unique engines. VC,LCS and VCS all shared the same engine. For whatever reason.

Probably because that engine ran the best on PSP, considering how the Stories were designed for it.

Yeah what a big disappointment, like big time honestly. It's actually my at least favorite thing to do in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and i'm pretty sure Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto III had this sort of feature years back right? Anyways if you are a PC gamer? There is a mod about it and i'm sure someone mentioned it already. biggrin.gif But the question is? How will it work though?

Once, I saw a cop chasing a guy. I tried being good, and shot the guy being chased in the leg.

Immediate 2 star wanted level. Oh the logic.

Yeah, its illegal to carry a weapon in Liberty City and the police would abandon chasing a simple thief to take down someone armed with an illegal firearm.

What stupidity.

Why can't people understand this?

Except it isn't true.

You can wave a gun around the police as much as you like, as long as you don't point it at a cop or fire it.

You can even hold up a ped or driver right next to a cop.

not killing them, just punching them, use of a firearm would land you with a wanted level, I think melee weapons were allowed, and you got $50 per hit, so you could kill them, and get $200 out of it if it took 4 hits.

I know cos I spammed this with my cousin way back when to buy el swanka casa in Vice Point for $8000 - good times.

You do get praised if you trip over a running suspect by bumping into them, not actually hitting them.

Every time the cops attacked me when I helped them, I went mad and just went full force on them.

If you mean if the cop leads the perp to the back of the car and you are driving, it seems as if he assumes if you will take him away and the cop continues on his duties (i.e. walks away).
