...as you can see there's no place for GTAIV there...i simply hate it with passion...if you don't like this fact then go jump of the bridge!...

This is not a fact, that's your opinion.

But really, care to elaborate why you hate it? I understand the dislike towards IV, but "hate with passion".. wow. Especially if you like III the most, which is also in LC.. and with not many features - just like IV - compared to VC or SA. Is it the "new graphics and physics", the different humor, the characters, the story, etc?

 

At least we both agree on that III is the best GTA

My 5 best GTAs of all time :

 

1) Vice City = I think it had the best story, I loved the 1980s style, the cocaine drug baron and Mafia themes, the amazingly created sunny, Miami-based setting, the empire building, and Tommy was my favorite protagonist. To me, it is still the all-around, best one in the series. Simply unforgettable, and an exceptional example of pure gaming excellence.

 

2) San Andreas = The huge map was mind-blowing, exciting to explore and legendary stuff, the LA-style gang culture was so realistic and well portrayed. Technically feature-wise, it is still has not been beaten. Tons of in-game features, content and replay value. Easily second, closely behind VC, and I can understand why some think it is the best one.

 

3) GTA III = The one that got me hooked on GTA in the first place. The transformation of GTA into 3D at the time with III was very much a groundbreaking and spectacular experience for me in my gaming history. III was simply stunning for it's time - I will always remember being totally mesmerized and captivated with the game, when I first played it.

 

4) GTA IV + Episodes = I'm a bit disappointed that it did not fully live up to it's expectations, and that is why it's in 4th place below III. However, the brilliant re-creation of New York City, the new HD visuals, effects and physics really amazed me, the story was very good, it had it's own unique cinematic identity. The Episodes did make it feel a bit better. Still a great game indeed.

 

5) The rest of them = I hardly played GTA Liberty Stories and Vice City stories, to me they were not 'full' GTA games. And I did not like the PSP-style graphics on my PS2 that much. But from what little I played of them, I'm sure they were great games, as I've read their storylines and they sound real good. I did not play Chinatown Wars though - I don't have a Nintendo console and it didn't interest me anyway, so I can't comment on that one.

1. GTA IV/EFLC (Lumping them together as one since that's how I got them set up on Steam),

 

IV was a darker, more serious reboot of GTA, the Episodes added in different perspectives and new things to try.

 

2. VC

 

Because it had that 80s vibe and being an 80s kid myself I can relate to it more than any other game. It (IMO) had the best atmosphere and felt like a playable movie

 

3. III

 

It revolutionized the genre, it was the first 3D GTA and though it had its issues, it was a huge step forward

 

4. GTA II

 

A future reboot of GTA that didn't get the attentioin it deserved

 

5. GTA CTW

 

For their first attempt on a Nintendo console (nope not counting Advance, was that ever actually released?) they did a fantastic job integrating the DS controls....in theory. What they actually did was have it be hit and miss.

The guy's admitted several times to never even playing it. I could understand how someone may not be interested in it, but to say they flat out "hate" it without playing it is a bit stupid.

 

It's just a game. Not the devil's offspring.

If you were to rate these games at the time of release, I would say GTA Vice City. This game left the biggest impression for me, far more that any other. Sure it wasn't the best looking back but when it came out it was AMAZING. Lets just say GTA IV did not hit me on that level at all.

1. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City...

R* phenomenally recreated this environment. The best appeal to nostalgia I've ever experience in any art form ever.

 

2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas...

R* zeroed in on what more the fans wanted after an already amazing game (Vice City) and provided it. Not rocket science, but epic nonetheless.

 

3. Grand Theft Auto III...

Given the time, it was the lowest visual quality of all 3D games in the series. That's the only negative as it ranks in the top 3 for it's innovation alone.

 

4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories...

This title seemed to narrowly avoid coming across as stale after already coming out with Vice City. However, Vice City Stories injected heavily demanded features into the environment of Vice City.

 

5. Grand Theft Auto IV...

The fact that IV had the least replay value of any GTA the series held it back on the list; but it still cracks the "Top 5" given the physics and graphics foundation it laid for a potentially amazing V.

 

 

I agree with his dismissal from the fan-favorite SA as the best; but I believe he misdiagnosed the main issue with the game. It wasn't the abundance of content in SA that made it overwhelming. It was the lack of a believable integration of that content. I was hoping that the multiple protagonists, stories, and environments in V would correct this flaw by having more backgrounds to work with when including the features and ultimately creating the greatest GTA of all time.
