it's like you're reading my mind, my top 5 would be the same if i owned a psp, but other than that everything is the same. it was about time somebody realized that SA is a little bit overrated. to me SA had the worst storyline of the 5 games you listed. but don't get me wrong it's still an awesome game and i still play it. and with IV you were right with every word you said. the game is just a masterpiece from the storyline and the atmosphere to the physics engine and the city itself. nice video and nice top 5

1. IV - Had a fantastic storyline as Niko give the player a special connection. He was a nutjob, but he defended his family right to the end and no matter what ending you had, you had a sense of rage and revenge. A game that can make you feel that is one very well done game.

 

2. San Andreas - Just like IV, you had a connection with CJ but one of the best parts of the game was the role of Officer Tenpenny. SLJ played him so well, love that performance. Plus, the openness, and the exploring was a great asset.

 

3. Vice City Stories - Such an underrated game and from reading on this site for awhile, people do not fully understand how excellent this game is. Vic Vance has been my favourite protag to this date and like Niko, he was only trying to help out the family, but got way to deep into crime. Such a wonderful, wonderful game and if it were a major release, it would be number 1 in my eyes.

 

4. Vice City - I don't have the same nostalgia feel to this game as most people do, as I got into the GTA series very late, but I still love it. Tommy was such a smooth protag, but the story, in my eyes, wasn't as good as the previous 3. But, this was 10 years ago, still a classic game.

 

5. Liberty City Stories - Didn't have the same connection as the previous 4, but was still a decent game. But, it had the same feel as III, go here, do job, get money. But still a great game.

1- San Andreas

 

The game that really got me into GTAs. Didn't own a copy until 2007, and I sold my PS2 in 2008 so I enjoyed it for a short while (I sold my PS2 to buy a PS3 only for GTA IV by the way). Everything is massive, it has more features than any other GTA until GTA V, and it just overwhelms the player. The golden era of GTAs. If I had to complain about something, it would be the graphics, but that's not even the game's fault, but the PS2's.

 

2- IV

 

The first game that I ever looked forwards to. The largest leap ever in GTA history until its time (except from maybe GTA III?). The deepest storyline ever on a GTA. Mature characters, amazing graphics, and just a realism that got you involved. Yes it has a lot of improvable things, but we say that now. In fact it took me like 2 years to realise it had any fails whatsoever.

 

3- III

 

The GTA par excellence. The first GTA I ever played. Everything about it screams GTA, it defines the saga. Fun free roam, crazy stuff, awesome storyline, and probably the most revolutionary game of its time.

 

4- Vice City

 

I kind of put it here mandatorily, trying to be objective. I didn't play the story until recently, and didn't even finish it. Great fun game, probably the best setting ever on a GTA, and an awesome evolution for only 1 year since GTA III. First to introduce crazy weapons. Again it totally screams GTA.

 

5- GTA 1

 

What can I say about it. I have only ever played it for a couple hours, but it's an interesting game, and leading to what we have now is just a remarkable achievement. It's the roots of what the saga is. Great fun for such a simple mechanic.

Anyway...

 

1) GTA IV

 

The most refined and focussed GTA of them all. A Masterpiece IMO.

 

2) VC

 

The 80s vibe and contrast between Tommy and fellow cast members make VC my sentimental favourite of the GTA III era.

 

3) GTA III

 

An instant classic. Funnily enough I never used to like GTA III that much, but my recent playthough on PSN rekindled some of that lost love.

 

4) TLAD

 

Way better than that overrated TBOGT. The bond between Johnny and The Lost was very genuine. Probably the best expansion pack I've ever played.

 

5) SA

 

Can't say I love SA as much as I used to, but I still rank it. Excellent soundtrack and some of my favourite characters are from SA. The Truth, Woozie and Toreno.

Just extreme fun, and loved the road trips.

2. GTA IV

It's the only GTA I played every month for 4 years. I can't hate this game, it's awesome and so much detail put into it.

3. GTA VC

The 80's vibe. That's all I got to say, I just love the 80's.

4. GTA III

First GTA I played, and I really loved it. It's radio station humor is still the funniest out of all GTA's imo.

5. GTA TBoGT

Well, there were lots of over the top missions...

Yes Nostalgia is a big part of it...I Liked SA Because of the huge map and fun missions, not to mention the soundtrack and pedestrians

1) GTA SA - one of my all time favourite games.

 

2) GTA IV - I loved the story and the realism, the car handling is the best of the series in my opinion.

 

3) GTA VC - Loved it, thought it was a big improvement over GTA 3 and every time an 80's song comes on the radio I'm always reminded of this great game.

 

4) GTA III - when this first released I didn't even own a ps2 but had played the game at a mate's house, I bought the game before I even had a console and truly fell in love with this game.

 

5) GTA 2 - before I got a pc, this was the main game I played on my ps1, although I never actually finished all of the missions, I played the game more than any other as a kid.

it's a very well done look back at the series, though with some minor mistakes (claiming that LCS was the first GTA with multiplayer - it wasn't GTA 1 was and also claiming that the violence was toned down on Chinatown Wars - it wasn't. the game received an ESRB rating of Mature, as was the case for GTA Advance)

So true. I remember at the end of the TLaD I was a little bit emotional. You could really feel Johnny's connection with The Lost. Great storyline right there.
