Sgt. Foley
It was all just a glitch and it will probably never return again. It did get me pissed a bit though, took realism out of the game because of one glitch... Did you read a single post in this topic? It's not a glitch, it's because of hardware limitations. Sorry, I thought it was a glitch. I read some of it.
Andreas
It is quite true that the PS3 is really the one holding this generation back.Sony clearly have no idea what they are doing. It's quite sad to see the go from 1st to 3rd place. I know that this guy is banned but I will nonetheless reply to it. The PlayStation 3 is not holding back this generation. If you think like this then you would have to say that every console holds back the game industry because they are nowhere as strong as a modern decent PC. The biggest difference is that the processor of the PlayStation 3 is from Cell and it has one PPE (Power Processor Element) at 3.2GHz which runs with multi-threading (process two threads at the same time) and eight SPEs (Synergistic Processing Elements), and each of them run with 3.2GHz but only seven of eight SPEs actually run actively because the eighth one is disabled to increase yield. Each SPE can process one thread at the same time. Therefore the CPU of the PS3 can process up to 9 threads at the same time. The XBox 360 uses a tripple-core processor from IBM and each core runs with 3.2GHz and can simultaneously process two threads. Therefore the CPU can process up to 6 threads at the same time. The graphics card of each console have a slight difference as well. The PS3 uses a GPU, whose name is NVidia RSX which fairly equals to the performance of a NVidia GeForce 7800GTX and it has 256MB GDDR3-RAM. The X360 uses a GPU, ATI Xenos, with 10MB eDRAM (for AA) and it fairly equals to the performance of a ATI X1800XT. The GPU is on the same chip as the CPU. If you compare the 7900GTX with the X1800XT then the result is that the latter one is significantly weaker than the first one. The funny thing is that although the GPU of the X360 is theoretically weaker than the one of the Sony console, it seems that it outperforms the GPU of the PS3 in games. If you look at the detailed specifications of each console GPU then, clearly the GPU of the Microsoft console is better than the one of the competitor. By the way it is important what the software is optimized for and not only how strong the hardware is. The consoles are maybe very old now but you can still milk more out of them, it is only a question of optimization and what software you are going to use. Anyway I could go more in detail about the other things but I think you already get what I want to say. In case you still don't know what I want to say; each console has their own advantages. The processor of the PS3 is stronger than the CPU of the X360 but it's exactly the opposite with the graphics card of each console. If you think that I was too detailed, it could have been way more detailed. This discussion has been had before and I think the reasoning behind it is that you can lose your car easily and get it back easily. That's not right. That is a VRAM limit issue and a problem that appears since GTA III. Sure, modern PCs have much more VRAM than the consoles but even there, this problem will always appear. I think that the problem will not be solved when next-generations consoles are here because then the graphics will improve pretty much (Full-HD will be the standard, support for 4K-resolution in certain games, support for up to 8 billion particles, et cetera) and then we are in the exact position like before; the spawn issue that appeared in every GTA since GTA III will appear again in the next-gen GTA. It is possible to minimize that issue but it's not possible to let it disappear completely, at least not anytime soon I think. MWC
there are mods (or as console noobies like to call them hacks) for the PC version of GTA4 that fix the issue of repeating cars ofc it makes the game much more hardware intensive
