Hammertime12
For all of you mentioning animals, we have no clue if they'll be in or not. Dogs might just be the only creature we get and we've pretty much been told everything we're going to get told about the game until very near release at this point. The Benz confirmed there will be animals in the countryside.
Hardly
Lightning Strike, have you played Red Dead Redemption? Indeed I have, I love the game to death. However there's a big difference between GTA V and RDR, that being we haven't been shown or told about any of the features that made RDR's countryside so great, hunting, bounties, gang hideouts these were all things that made RDR's wasteland interesting, there's no talk of them appearing in V though. Well coyotes and wildlife are confirmed, as are guns, so you can pretty much confirm that we can shoot the coyotes (not to mention running them over with cars, which was something you couldn't do in RDR), and there are vigilante missions which are pretty much bounties, and then there's the "dynamic mission system" which seems to be the next logical evolution of RDR's random encounters. So yeah, I don't think it's going to be empty in the least.
Secura
@LightningStrike Im not sure what you mean by flavour. Care to give an ex of what you mean? So it gets to feel differently from Los Santos, I don't want it to feel like a city just with all the buildings replaced with trees. I'd like it to have it's own specific set of attractions so that there'd be a reason to go there. If it just feels like a city made out of trees with no real reason for being there other than to separate the space between the villages and the big main city of Los Santos I will not be pleased, once again I will have to ask the question what's the point because at this moment in time we know very little about the countryside and what it may contain - I can only hope/assume that we'll be seeing a lot more of it come trailer three. The second trailer should have answered your question. Did you see the diversity and FLAVOUR each part of the game had. From things like the change in atmosphere When it went from los santos to the rugged areas of the game and other things like different peds. I dont know what else your expecting to see. The two main geographical areas on a map are "countryside" and "settlement" Countryside - Explains its self. Settlement - Citys, Towns, Villages ect. What does he want, another GTA IV? No. Its a stupid opinion. There are so many stupid opinions in the forum its unreal. xWH1T30UTx
My point is simple, will there be any feature specific things to do in the countryside or will it just be a cool looking add-on without much content. I think Rockstar probably wouldn't have added it in if it didn't have any uses. It's already been confirmed that the countryside will be teeming with wildlife, as others have said. I'd say this is comparable to Red Dead in some aspects. Even if the animals aren't as plentiful or extensive, it'll still be a nice touch. Nothin' like mowing down some cows, with a sports car, eh? Haha. Beyond that, it is certainly possible that some unique activities are in the desert and mountains. Hiking/mountain climbing was hinted at in Trailer #1, as well as dirt bike races being hinted at in Trailer #2. Plus, we definitely haven't seen very much yet, and I honestly don't think we will see much more until we actually play the game. Not to mention they've added new dynamic missions, similar to the ones in RDR, but improved by the looks of it. I'm sure these will be scattered throughout the map, as well as smaller towns and villages like Rockstar had mentioned. All That being said, I think there are dozens of opportunities for other activities and side quests within the countryside areas, as well as the main story. It can be inferred that around 1/3-ish of the main story takes place in or around this area, as Trevor lives there. Plus, it's also a possibility that Michael could go camping with his family in the mountains or something. Like I said before, Rockstar probably wouldn't have added it if they didn't think it was important. But, if I'm totally wrong and worse comes to worst, at least we'll still have a diverse countryside to f*ck around in. Don't think you have anything to worry about. Hardly
OP, you really have to ask yourself what it is you want here. At what point would you consider yourself satisfied? It's safe to assume that you can climb up mountains, jump off of them, have dirt bike races, drive around and tear sh*t up in dune buggies and ATVs, go hiking, come across angry bikers, hitchhikers, and coyotes, run over angry bikers, hitchhikers, and coyotes, discover the aftermath of a drug-deal-gone-bad, tow trailer homes off cliffs, run people over in a tractor, crash 18-wheelers into oncoming trains, parachute into a supermax prison, and do missions involving drug and gun trafficking as Trevor. All of these things are activities that are better suited for the countryside than in the city. Does the game have to have cattle ranching and farming minigames in order for you to be happy Edited November 25, 2012 by Hardly

I feel that the OP's concerns were valid, if not then slightly misguided. I think one thing that both the OP and other people need to keep in mind is that the GI and IGN previews were just that - previews. Just because it isn't directly mentioned in the articles doesn't mean it'll be missing from the game. Now, if the concerns were about something that was confirmed directly to NOT be in the game, I would understand. Haha, this kinda reminds me about how people are pissed about "car customization won't be in the game, f*ck!" Just because they didn't mention it doesn't mean it's confirmed or denied. We'll find out when we play the damn game. Making a thread, degrading the games map on a website specifically for this franchise full of die-hard fans, whats the point? KillaMoneyMike
ur buggin. GTA IV got old fast, and it was because of the 1 dimensional map. It had no other environment besides the city. GTA V desperately needed to make a difference, and they did. So what other games have done it better. I believe R* will give us an awesome countryside. revHunter
For the very least, without taking into consideration the great variety of stuff which might&will be available;it's also an extra for mile for flavor and self-amusement. Is that really any less of a point for something which is supposed to be a game? For me,personally, with the great driving physics and mechanics; even a simple cruise through the countryside would be greatly gratifying! And although preset challenges are great,self-made challenges are greater. Just think of it as great big obstacle course...
thatguy94
I've been thinking about this as-well, I believe the point of the country side is for silence when you want to kill a few thousand prostitutes without getting stars. Insane Kane
GTA IV got boring for me after awhile where I found myself taking long breaks. Now when it came to GTA SA I was playing everyday for months, always had fun exploring the countryside and after so many years of playing it I still felt like I was finding new things. GTA SA gave you the option to be in the city when you wanted or be out in the open country. I loved SA had it's own areas like gangs in the city and southern people in the country. SA had a reason for planes on how massive it was and took awhile to fly from one area to another among that with the airports when IV had a plane going circles around the city and at the airport which was so stale. SA took forever (in car) to drive from point A to point B where as in IV you can get across the map A to B in minutes if you're a good fast driver. SA had so many activities to keep you busy not to mention the side missions for taxi, ambulance etc where as IV.. well we all know how it was for us with the phone ringing and all. Now try to imagine this in GTA V and much much more with more reasons to explore and get away from the city. The countryside was one of my favorite parts in SA and I'm sure will be in V as well. Also, there was not much to explore in IV as you found everything so much. I just played IV again after a year of not playing and I played for a week and half and have been playing something else now. GTA V is sure to keep me busy for years like SA did.
