Master of San Andreas

This is a thread dedicated to astronomy lovers to discuss about space, black holes, galaxies whatever. smile.gif

As for me I love astronomy alot, when I was young I actually considered going on an expedition to mars lol.gif

I'm really curious I kinda hope there is another living planet out there, who knows there might be another game like gta and another forum too!

Off ya go!! smile.gif

I actually think what you are trying to do here is cool and I appreciate the effort you put. But not everything that doesn't have a thread should have a thread and not everything we do in our lives should be shared on the Internet.

I appreciate the effort you put.

There was effort in this?

Joking aside, I f*cking adore space. Nothing has captured my imagination, my curiosity, my desire to know everything there is, quite like the great unknown has. The moon, our humble neighbour, is something I stare at every night whilst I smoke my life away. The fact that we have not only landed on it but have gone even further simply blows my mind.

Then we have the physics of it all. Simultaneously defining our rules on Earth whilst casually breaking them. This is a subject I'm relatively new to and it's been nothing but mind-melting complexity, but I love it. I crave the information and have amassed a gigantic library of "Did you know?" type facts, sharing them with those I feel would appreciate them.

Whenever I read a book about space or I read something online I always find it fascinating and will come across something that just simply amazes me. I can look out my window on a clear night and just stare at the sky for ages, not even necessarily thinking about anything, but just looking at it. The night sky is a natural wonder that for me, rivals anything we have here on Earth.

I found out just yesterday that the USSR named a planet after Charlie Chaplain. Can you imagine such a thing? If we ever get there and were to find life, that would be an interesting conversation. We meet aliens and tell them that we named their homeworld after a moderately amusing Hollywood mime artist.

I love everything about the space, the only problem is that I get scared from black holes, and eclipses (I don't know, I feel goosebumps when I look at a picture of those things) but I love to learn about these things ^^ they are fun. also speaking about the universe, do you know the story of Istochnikov? I feel a little sad when I read it for first time sad.gif

Im fascinated about space, it's brilliant, Mindblowing!!

You should get a book called - The Universe By Brian Cox. Some of the stuff in there is Mindblowing. Or the book - The Solar System By Brian Cox. Defiantly good reads. Im 17 and I don't tell my mates Im into space, because they're call me weird. It's something I do in my personal time.

Here's a panaramic view of the centre of the Milky Way

Im mostly interested in quantum mechanics myself, but astronomy is a close second

I watch program's about quantum mechanics, even though I prefer Astrology, quantum mechanics is second on the list for me.

do you know the story of Istochnikov?

Ivan Istochnikov

Officially Soyuz 2 was an unmanned spacecraft that was the docking target for Soyuz 3. However, Mike Arena, an American journalist, allegedly found in 1993 that Ivan Istochnikov and his dog Kloka were manning Soyuz 2, and disappeared on October 26, 1968, with signs of having been hit by a meteorite. They had been "erased" from history by the Soviet authorities, who could not tolerate such a failure.[17]

The entire story was found to be a hoax perpetrated by Joan Fontcuberta,[18] as a 'modern art exercise' that included falsified mission artifacts, various digitally manipulated images, and immensely detailed feature-length biographies that turned out to be riddled with hundreds of historical as well as technical errors. The exhibit was shown in Madrid in 1997 and the National Museum of Catalan Art in 1998. Brown University later purchased several articles, and put them on display themselves.

Mexico's Luna Cornea magazine however, failed to notice this, and ran issue number 14 (January/April 1998) with photos, and a story explaining the tragic and as-yet-untold truth.[19]

The name Ivan Istochnikov is a Russian translation of Joan Fontcuberta's name; translated to English from Russian reads "John of the Source".[20]

On June 11, 2006, Cuarto Milenio,[21] a mysteries program led by Iker Jiménez on the Spanish TV channel Cuatro, presented the story as possibly true.[22]

And why would your friends think you were weird for having an interest in space? Seem like pretty crummy friends.

Yeah, I know it's fake, but I wonder how many cosmonauts died in the vastness of space during these times...

I haven't got too much information about Universe or Astronomy. I know just VY Canis Majoris and other big stars. If you don't know Canis Majoris star. You have to watch this dear friends.

Indeed! I mean, what are we? Being the minority doesn't cover it: us, as earth are 0.0000000001% of this universe (or universes depending on what you believe in).

Note: 0.0000000001% is not an official figure. But I trust you get the idea.

Meh, I've told them to look at the night sky. But yeah, they never bother. They say "It's boring and our typical age group party all the time instead of thinking about space"

I guess Im different. Again.

I don't know. I think the human brain is pretty amazing. All of these different areas of the brain that evolved for different reasons working together to create you. Trillions of connections working constantly to allow you to think, deduct and figure out this world works.

You have the ability to be amazed by space because of your brain. We still don't quite know everything about it. I think the most exciting part about it is the fact that it all comes down to fire or not. It's classic binary, it's actually called the All or Nothing principle. Something as powerful as our brain (even though it obviously has some weaknesses) reduced to ultimate simplicity.

I find that just as fascinating as space, and just as much a natural wonder. It came to be by mere chance, that is just amazing.

@Chunkyman, I'm guessing you have but you have seen

by Carl Sagan.

He sums that feeling of insignificance yet significance all in one go. Sure we are nothing compared to the vastness of the universe, but we are also the only known intelligent life yet found, that is significant in itself.

I would also just recommend watching Cosmos by Carl Sagan. It is a bit outdated but Carl just puts things in such eloquent form. He really gets you interested.

Wow... That's true.

But all the stupidity in the society makes me forget about how awesome the human brain is...

It's a tool. Just like any other tool, like a chisel or knife, it's only as good as the person taking care of it. It can also become "corrupted" by outside influences, like oxygen rusting a hammer. You just have to make sure of what is going in is what you want.

@Rown, Anybody that is a fan of Carl Sagan like me, well I immediately love. That man is awesome. I have read two of his books.

This calls for Carl Sagan put to music.

Space has enthralled me as a topic since I was a kid. The thought of travelling out past the bounds of our Sun's gravity to other stars and planets... well it's a recipe for self-soilage every time. Even in the solar system I'd love to see places like the moons of Jupiter up close.

(That's Io. From here.)

I can kinda understand talking space with friends. But I'm kind of a trivia sponge so I can answer some basic questions and hopefully instill a sense of awe on the subject.

I really got surprised not many people are into this astonishing discipline here.
apod.com is a great website for astronomy lovers that's run by NASA. (I assume anyone who's interested in would know it, though.) There's a huge archive in the site that started in 1995 and reaches out today. Every single day, the site uploads one breathtaking image from the universe's one of the immense sights with detailed info under it. (some days a video, but mostly an image).

Today's shot is from Pluto, here it is:

http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap160402.html

Also, watch this mind-blowing video to see how small & insignificant are we, indeed:

Neil deGrasse Tyson have some great videos either. He's an astrophysicist. If you're new to the subject, by any means, go for him. If not, then I think you've already known about him.

You can also ''try to'' comprehend how vast the universe is by visiting scaleofuniverse.com

I love astronomy. If you ever want to have a talk, don't hesitate to PM.

Just yesterday I was standing in the balcony thinking how we are so tiny (even in terms of time) that all humanity's existence has become possible in the "gaps" between chaotic astronomical events. Bloody f*cking chance grabbers, are we not? On a rock rotating at 1670 km/h and revolving around the sun at 107000 km/h, if they turned off the gravity switch, we'd be flung off at those speeds lol

Also, any star is actually a nuclear explosion so huge that it would take billions of years to fizz out.

If you would think about the tiny particles that "make everything up" - the electrons - the quarks, they f*cking act like they have sentience inside them. They move on their own, have awareness for location of other particles and never make a mistake while moving trillions and trillions of times in a moment while changing their forms consistently. All dancing on the rhythm of the universe.

After watching a few videos from Vsauce, black holes and space is f*cking crazy and it literally hurts my mind trying to comtemplate the universe.
