So Rockstar Told Us The Map Is Going To Be Really Big But In What Aspects? Will It Be Just Los Santos Alone That Will Be Really Big? Or Will It Be The Desert Thats Really Big Or Perhaps Both leave down your ideas on what part of the GTA V Map will be big lol.gif

With all the it will be so and so times bigger than blank. The only accurate statement in my opinion is when they said this will be the biggest GTA game to date. I just hope they were talking about the map. confused.gif

I Think The First Letter Of Every Word I Say Is Going To Be Big.

I think the city will be like IV, the desert will be bigger.

Is it only me that get the impression that the desert takes most space of the map ?

From what we have seen so far, I think the nature will be balanced. The dessert will probably make up 30-40 % of the whole nature area.

We don't really know. We only have a couple of facts so far:

- Entire map is bigger than GTA SA, GTA IV and RDR combined

- The city of Los Santos is around the same size as the whole of GTA IV map

- Downtown Los Santos (skyscrapers) is smaller than the downtown of Liberty City

From this it can only be assumed that the desert/countryside will be massive.

The map of GTA V will be bigger than GTA San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV together including interiors and room to spare or in other words the map will be as big as 5 times Red Dead Redemption. Los Santos, the city itself, will be fairly as big as Liberty City or maybe a bit smaller. GTA IV's map is about 6.25 square miles big and RDR's map is 6-7 square miles big, a bit bigger than Liberty City so it's more like 7 square miles. That means Los Santos makes about 20% of the map so the surroundings will be massive.

His analysis was spot on, informed by all the info we got last week. What are you on about?

If this is so incorrect then you will definitely be able to elaborate why.

i will elaborate and say your just assuming.....again. monocle.gif you don't know how big the city will be or what percentage of the map it will take up. notify.gif

The real question is, how much of that space will be water?

R* already cheated in GTA IV with the map size, they included tons of water into their calculation when they compared it to GTA SA.

But anyways, this topic was about what will be bigger, and that'll obviously be the countryside.

And in the end of the day, the map will be big enough for everyone, also remember that a bigger map usually doesn't mean a better game.

Rock star clarified in a statement that they were indeed talking about the map. They wanted a big map mainly for planes and jets.

LC was too small for it, SA was big enough.

So expect something large than SA as if you were comparing the size of GTA 3 and IV.

How do you know? I have read the GI cover-story where it said that GTA V will be bigger than GTA San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV together and another magazine claimed that GTA V will be as big as 5 times Red Dead Redemption. It has been confirmed that the city will be as big or maybe slightly smaller than GTA IV Liberty City. Liberty City is about 6.25 square miles big and RDR's map is nearly 7 square miles big so fairly as big as GTA IV's map. When the overall mapsize is 5 times Red Dead Redemption and the city itself is fairly as big as RDR then that means 100%/5=20%. It's maybe not exactly 20% but around 20%. No need to be a jackass all the time, buddy.

If I could, I'd grab a similar boat in SA and IV and time myself around

the entire maps of each. Might find some scale of the maps that way.

You have to assume that the acceleration in GTA San Andreas is anything than realistic unlike GTA IV. RockStarNiko already made a comparison by the way and it proved my assumption, that the over-all mapsize of Red Dead Redemption is smaller than the one of GTA San Andreas but the exploreable area is only a bit bigger than the map of GTA IV, right. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=531982

@Bitches_Brew:

It’s not just large -- the city of Los Santos alone is comparable in size to the whole of Liberty City.

wow.gif does that include the water?

BTW, could you elaborate on how you figured out those map measurements? did you measure each island or include the water also?

last i heard the guys at IGN didn't know what they were talking about. everyone here trashes them. i thought GI and the newswire were the only places to get 100% accurate info?

Ok mate you dont seem to understand how massive RDR is compared to GTA IV, theres no way in hell its 7Sq miles I have read through tons of articles and many have said thats Read dead redemption is atleast 3x the size of GTA 4.

I would say that includes the water. These map measurements were estimated by me when I ran in GTA IV and GTA SA each one kilometer. I have made lines into the map from the point where I started to go/run to the point where I have reached one kilometer. The result was that GTA IV is about half as big as GTA SA. And also another method is there are official made maps which are very big and detailed. The resolution of the official biggest and most detailed GTA SA map is 6000x6000 pixel while the biggest and most detailed map of GTA IV is about 6000x3800 pixel big which indicates that both games are similar scaled to each other. That is the result when I resize both maps to a length to each 450 pixels:
