xWH1T30UTx
So, I have a theory. THIS IS JUST A THEORY! I cannot stress this enough. While I do not truly expect this to actually be in the game, it'd be a nice and welcome addition. Dunno if this has been thought of, dunno if it belongs here. But just hear me out. (Or read me out, whatever!) Imagine this: You're exploring Los Santos as one of the characters, taking in the sights, enjoying the game. But then you think to yourself: "Man, I really want to have a few other players here with me." So you bring up the radial menu. Not to switch to the other two protagonists, but instead to switch to your very own character. Yours. One that you created. The camera zooms out, pans over to a random location, and zooms back in. You assume the role as your very own character, and you're in the wonderful world of multiplayer free roam. Dozens of players are running around you. A seamless transition. Once you are within this, it'd act as a lobby, similar to party mode in GTA IV. From here, you would be able to access other gamemodes. Maybe through your phone as always. Or you could of course stay and screw around! I personally think this would be absolutely amazing. Very few games have pulled off a nice and believable transition between single player and multiplayer. The main problem that I had with IV's multiplayer was the loading and the menus, (Although accessing it with the phone was a nice touch.) But, with the addition of character switching in V, I think my theory is actually somewhat possible. (The IGN preview did state that there was an empty fourth slot, after all.) Now, there may be some technical limitations to this, such as loading times, but maybe those could be disguised by some sort of cutscene, a la Max Payne 3. The main reasoning behind this idea is that for some reason, I felt like the SP and MP worlds of IV were way too separated. When I made the switch from single player, it kinda felt like I was in a different universe, and I'm not quite sure why. I guess it's because a lot of the things from SP didn't make it into the MP world, and therefore some of the immersion was lost. It'd be really cool if everything was pretty much the same between the two modes, aside from the story of course. So, what do you guys think? Is this theory plausible? Would you like to see it implemented if it is? Am I f*cking crazy? Don't hurt me. Discuss.

Red XIII
I don't imagine it to be possible to go from a singleplayer world to multiplayer world instantly, there has to be a loading screen.

True, but that's why I had added that there could be some sort of cutscene to cover the loading screen up. Rockstar did an exceptional job with this in Max Payne 3. Dunno what the cutscenes would be, but it could work.

I agree; there will probably be a lot more to the multiplayer than just this idea, but I figured a quick transition into it would be cool.
Luuno
One of the articles did stated that in the radial character menu there was a 4th empty slot. Looks like a possibility to me, the transition and zoom out to the view of the map sounds like a loading screen to me, indeed like a cutscene. I would love if they made it this easy to use and freeroam would be the lobby like rdr
Androyed
Very plausible. Indeed, one of the articles did state that there was a 4th empty slot in the radial menu thingy. Japse123 and I already had a discussion about this in another thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...st&p=1061967145 Basically, we came to the same conclusion as you. I doubt that it will be a fluent transition though. But the idea of playing your own character along with the other three could very well be true. TOMAHAWKS
Doesn't matter a single sh*t to me. I can live with this, or even with GTA IV's style using the phone to access multiplayer.
TheJasonGallant
Yeah, that would be great. Or, they could just make it like in RDR. The free mode would be the place where you choose game modes and everything, where you could make up some partys... I liked the exploration mode or something like that (I'm playing in french so I'm not sure about the perfect name in english). I really loved how there was some things you could do in that mode. It was not only driving around. Of curse, RDR is a different game. But I'd hope some of the RDR things to come back.

You switch to the multiplayer with your character. There you will still be in Los Santos or surrounding areas (where you left off last time), along with other human beings. Like free roam. From there, you can start different gamemodes like RDR.

Lock n' Stock
Wasn't it like that in Midnight Club: Los Angeles? That is a pretty good idea though I have to say.
Guest
To those on about load screens, it's not needed. Look at Burnout Paradise and the transition from SP to MP. No loading screens, AT ALL. No mess, no fuss.

B_E_N_1992
I think its a good idea. As ign said the 4th slot. If its for multiplayer & you select it, the camera zooms out & then stops for a fews seconds (loading), then it zooms back down to your own multiplayer character in free mode. From there you can choose your game mode etc. via your phone like in IV In singleplayer you can have the choice of when you initially go into multiplayer if its a private or public freemode lobby. If you wan to change from public/private then you can choose so from the phone while in multiplayer (like IV). Would be a much better option.
simonp92
I wouldn't wanna see the same cutscene everytime I wanted to play multiplayer. Anyone who've played allot of Co-op in GTA IV will agree with me.
Kirsty
I think this is actually a really nice idea. The way they've described the transition between characters, it's possible that they could integrate the switch to an MP lobby in the same way. I think R* have learned their lesson in terms of loading times from the complaints about Max Payne 3 so we'll see a big improvement on that front. I don't think it'll be completely seamless until next generation, but I still think we'll see it someday as R* just keep advancing.

Look at Burnout Paradise's SP to MP transition. You bring up a quick menu, while in-game, join a random mode and within one second, you're in an MP room, the exact same place you were in before. This is some demo gameplay, so there was a tiny loading screen, but in the full game there is no loading at all. Observe
Kirsty
Yeah, I didn't mean it's impossible this generation for all games, I just think it's impossible for GTA V to be completely seamless. I see from the demo you linked it is quite quick on Burnout Paradise, but there are so many more variables going on in the GTA world that I think we have to expect a bit of loading at least. All the things like pedestrians. It would be great but I won't get my hopes up.
Dystopia
If they wanted it to be seamless there would be 4 playable characters, one of them being your multiplayer avatar, who wouldn't interact with the other three in single player, that's the easiest way to achieve the seamlessness if they wanted it.
