Ok, here's something for all of you that say since GTA 4 barely held on one disc, that there's no way GTA 5 will:

1) That was R*'s first GTA game on the new engine, and their first game on the current gen consoles. They now know it better, so they can use space better

2) The game came out in 2008. It's been 4-5 years. Compression technology has undoubtedly advanced.

3) Microsoft now allows devs to use 1gb extra space on the disc, since they got rid of some bullsh*t.

4) Multiple discs on an open world game doesn't work. It doesn't work at all, and R* knows this.

So, in conclusion, R* knowing what they're doing + advanced compression technology + extra space on the disc = 1 disc for Xbox.

No information released on that yet. Remember that file compression can do wonders with minimal sacrifice in quality nowadays if applied properly.

No vote.

Everyone who thinks that there will be more than 1 disc to play GTA 5 is retarded. 'Nuff said

if it turns out that there actually is more than 1 disk, then im going to literally make you eat your own words. I will print out your comment, go to your house, restrain you, and force you to eat it.

I said to play. If it goes the Halo 4 way, it will still only be 1 disc to play, so if there are 2 discs, and it goes the Halo 4 way, then I'm still right.

I know how to word things to make them better, and yet trick people wink.gif

for that im going to do it anyway

Skyrim data on pc is almost 3 times smaller then that of gta iv and being pc and more of an open format, it seems like the best comparison to me. Skyrim is a sandbox to gta's beach it just seems big with it's rpg trickery. It's still fun though.

I believe it's going to be like Halo 4. 2 discs and the 2nd one is just used to download the extra content onto the hard drive.

I don't have a Xbox anymore! I switched to PS3

I hope the Xbox will need 3 disk because I want GTA V to have a large memory now that I don't have a Xbox anymore

Hay guise,

My bff who works across the street from Rockstar told me it's gonna be released in the following format on XBox360:

DVD1: the map, excluding buildings

DVD2: buildings

DVD3: cars

DVD4: animals, except for dogs

DVD5: dogs

CD1: NPCs

CD2: junk & trash on the streets

3.5" floppy1: Michael

3.5" floppy2: Trevor

3.5" floppy3: Franklin

+152 pages of code that you will have to manually type in.

Well, LA Noire used 3 discs, which according to Rockstar and Team Bondi, was needed to contain the high quality facial textures/animations, the 20 hours of voice work, and the 8 square mile map. GTA V will likely have as much voice acting if not more, a much bigger map (bigger than SA, IV, and RDR combined = at least 28 square miles), the same high quality facial animations and textures, and higher quality textures all around in comparison to LA Noire. I don't see how it could be less than 3. From what I remember, Rockstar/Bondi said that LA Noire was pretty heavily compressed to even get it on 3 discs.

I could imagine the rage amongst here, it wouldn't be that much though, judging from recent polls 360 gamers aren't common around here colgate.gifcolgate.gif

Ah but the difference is this: GTA:V's facial animation system isn't the same LA Noire's. Even if GTA:V ends up with more cut scenes and animations in general, it will still only use a fraction of the space that LA Noire's Motionscan system did.

All three disks of L.A.Noire contained a complete copy of the map. No matter what chapter of the story you were in (i.e. which desk you were working), you had the freedom to explore the entire map without swapping disks.

What they did do with L.A.Noire was to divide up the story between the three disks. Motionscan animations took up a lot of space, but they were largely tied to which part of the story you were in. As a result the only disk swaps you had to perform was a result of progressing the story. Which means playing the story end to end you only had to swap disks twice.

L.A.Noire does prove that a massive and highly detailed map will fit on one disk with masses of room to spare. GTA:V's cut scenes are not pre-rendered HD video. Instead they are animated and rendered in 'real time'. As a result they take up very little space. The program binaries would also take up relatively little space. If anything takes up space it's the audio.

I suspect GTA:V will fit on one disk. And I'm sure that Rockstar will work out the most expedient way to divide up the game resources if one disk proves insufficient. But I think any concern that there will be constant disk swapping is completely misplaced.

One thing no one has brought up yet, the entire poll is flawed. GTA has never come on disks, only discs. So the real answer to the poll as written is ZERO. tounge2.gif

What?

You spell 'Disc' Disk.

Unless it's different in your country.

For Xbox, it's gonna be like: "You are now entering East Los Santos. Please enter disk 9."

Save money by buying the ps3, it has free online and it wont over heat as fast as the xbox, PLUS it will only require 1 disc as to its newer than the old heater xbox.

Optical Discs are Disc, Hard Disks are Disks, Floppy Disks are Disks.

Disc comes from discus, so any of the round media is Disc.

I'd say 2

It doesn't matter to me though since I am getting the PS3 version.(I'd get the 360 version but I wanted the tryout the online gameplay but I don't play online enough for an XBL gold subscription to be worth it.) I figured there would be jokers/trolls who voted "more than 5" but I didn't think 90+ people would vote that.

Fanboy wars are stupid.

I have both consoles. 360 version will probably have 2 discs. With the second disc being an install disc.

My GOD! This topic again?! Are you people really that dense that you can't understand how it works?

1: GTA CAN NOT be split into SP/MP like other games. MP uses the same assets as SP. Thus putting the MP on a separate disc would be meaningless as it barely uses any space whatsoever.

2: Splitting up the story over multiple discs doesn't work in an open world game. You would have no choice but to have all world assets on each disc and only cutscene audio and mission exclusive scripting would be different on each disc. To do this, you would have to have a point in the middle of the story where you have completed all possible missions on that one disc so you could move on to the next disc. This is an artificial story bottleneck that would completely ruin all immersion in the open world storyline.

3: Forced install is simply not an option as per Microsoft guidelines. If there are multiple discs, you would still have to get up and change physical discs at that point in the storyline even if you "installed" the game. The only time Microsoft allows for installed content is if it is optional content like Multiplayer modes, DLC, or high res textures packs.

4: Anyone talking about cutscenes taking up space does not know how cutscenes work in the GTA games. They aren't prerendered. A cutscene in GTA is just a text file that defines the action to take place. GTA cutscenes take even less space than Multiplayer does, so those people using cutscenes as a reason for multiple discs need a new excuse.

So...now...How many discs? I 100% promise it will be 1 disc. There is ZERO reason to think otherwise. (Even LA Noire would have been only 1 disc had it not been for MotionScan.)

So much right, nothing wrong.

Read from it and learn.
