Xbox needs multiple discs!!??!! Makes me glad I've got a PS3. I thought Xbox used HD Dvds.

What the heck are HD DVD's?

Either way, Xbox will use 52 discs. That's the most logical answer I can give.

Holyy!!!! Again this thread????

Max 2 discs, one to install map, music, hd maybe...and the other for play single and multiplayer! mad.gif

Presuming considering the demo/screenshots/trailers were all meant to be from ps3.

and if there is no lead platform.. it will still make a huge difference in game discs unless they cut content from the ps3 or xbox which they won't do. I highly doubt it will be a one disc game for xbox.

R* have officially said there is no main console for GTA. game developed for both.

and there will be no porting.

people who think this will be on one dvd are dumb, seriously.

i dont care if its on two or four, as long as i install it and dont have to keep swapping CDs.

LOL @ 5 or more. Seems to be a lot of hurt PC gamers & vengeful PS3 owners.

It doesn't bother me as I own all 3. The Spectrum ZX, Atari 2600, & of course my favourite, the faux wood panelled Intellivision. So suck it bitches. tounge2.gif

@5000 Staples

I didn't know there were cows in the PS3 version of Mafia II. Or is it that Xbox version has more fertile soil?

neither. crapbox is geared more towards rednecks that don't believe in lawnmowers. there might as well be a junked car on blocks out front. lol.gif

As others have said, it's possible that 2 discs will be used. One for installing to the HDD, and one main disk to play off of. If I'm not mistaken, Halo 4 did this and it worked quite well. Surely Rockstar won't make us switch disks to play as the other protags or explore different parts of the map.

isn't it how many disks? not how much?

Yep it is... But, maybe that guy didn't speak english from born (just like me).

Or, he really sucks at he's own language.

1 for the original, One for the multiplayer.. biggrin.gif

Like I said to someone else, MP and SP has the same map and I don't see why there would be one disc for MP and one for SP. If there is mutltiple discs, it would probably be because the map is too big or too many files for a single disc. It will probably need to be installed. But, maybe there will only be one disc... Nobody really know.

I am still maintaining my belief that they'll find some way to fit it on the DVD-9. They'll have to drop the textures to all hell possibly but it'll fit.

I don't see how thats going to work if they are going to keep the quality between ps3 and 360 consistent, and from what we've seen from the trailer, they are going to be pretty high quality. it has got to be 2 disks.

Trailers are always high-quality, like i mean look at a trailer for game in like 2000-04 area and look at actual gameplay from that game, the difference in quality is very different.

Besides, we don't know how well they're gonna compress the game. Perfect example is Skyrim, MASSIVE game, hours, possibly days worth in dialogue and audio, but yet, only 3.9 gb?

lol.

I can personally assure you, GTA V will be on one disk.

GTA 4 for xbox 360, the final version looked the same quality wise as the trailer. if you don't agree then you need a better TV or eyes or something. this shows that there will be no difference in quality between the trailer and how the actual game looks. R* has not mislead us yet. And ive never played skyrim, but I doubt there's "days" of dialogue. Also don't forget GTA 4's pre-rendered HD video content, a sh*t load of high quality music, and a sh*t ton of dialogue.

Not saying skyrim isn't full of content, but clearly GTA 4 had more, not including map size, and I'm sure GTA 5 will have twice as much content, so that's where the second disk is needed.

So, you've never played Skyrim, but are willing to say it doesn't have enough content?

Put simply, there is an ASS-LOAD of sh*t in skyrim, Days worth in dialogue and Audio, yes, Days worth. With all the the speech options and stuff, it is believeble. Now, if a company like Bethsda can fit a game like Skyrim into 3.9 GB, I am CERTAIN R* could make it smaller.

For the record, Skyrim has more everything than GTA IV.

GTA V will be on 1 disk.

Open world games don't generally sell well on multiple disks.

suicidal.gifsuicidal.gifsuicidal.gif

Skyrim had no cutscenes and the map will end up being smaller then v

yet you think it will be in 1 disk lol.giflol.giflol.giflol.giflol.gif

this is easily the post of the day

No cutscenes, but still more hours of dialogue then any other title out there, rivaling with Fallout.

Skyrim's map is 20 Miles squared. GTA V's is gonna be bigger no doubt, but the Audio and Dialogue is Far greater in Skyrim than will be in GTA V.

"Oh but 3 protags, 3 cutscenes for each mission!" Likely not, it is highly likely only a select few missions will have more then one cutscene depending on your character.

Anyways, Skyrim has so much stuff, but is only 3.9 GB, explain how that works? Oh right, it was compressed.

Idiot.

I just realized that the xbox 360 version of skyirm is 7.9gb, not f*cking 3.9gb Have you been comparing the PC version? what the f*ck?

My GOD! This topic again?! Are you people really that dense that you can't understand how it works?

1: GTA CAN NOT be split into SP/MP like other games. MP uses the same assets as SP. Thus putting the MP on a separate disc would be meaningless as it barely uses any space whatsoever.

2: Splitting up the story over multiple discs doesn't work in an open world game. You would have no choice but to have all world assets on each disc and only cutscene audio and mission exclusive scripting would be different on each disc. To do this, you would have to have a point in the middle of the story where you have completed all possible missions on that one disc so you could move on to the next disc. This is an artificial story bottleneck that would completely ruin all immersion in the open world storyline.

3: Forced install is simply not an option as per Microsoft guidelines. If there are multiple discs, you would still have to get up and change physical discs at that point in the storyline even if you "installed" the game. The only time Microsoft allows for installed content is if it is optional content like Multiplayer modes, DLC, or high res textures packs.

4: Anyone talking about cutscenes taking up space does not know how cutscenes work in the GTA games. They aren't prerendered. A cutscene in GTA is just a text file that defines the action to take place. GTA cutscenes take even less space than Multiplayer does, so those people using cutscenes as a reason for multiple discs need a new excuse.

So...now...How many discs? I 100% promise it will be 1 disc. There is ZERO reason to think otherwise. (Even LA Noire would have been only 1 disc had it not been for MotionScan.)

That's why it's probably going to be like this

Disk 1:

Everything except radio content and video content (not cutscenes)

Disk 2:

Radio content and video content

You can play the game with disk 1, but if you try to listen to radio, it will be like "please install disk 2 for radio content"

same thing if you try to flip on a TV, or access video on your phone without disk 2 installed.

That will probably be how it's going to be

Lol I hope you're trying to be funny.

IF there's more than one disc, half the game (Missions) will be on one, and the other half will be on ther other.

While possible, that scenario is far from likely. R* relies on media too heavily to demote it to unrequired content.

Open world games don't generally sell well on multiple disks.

SKYRIM PAL XBOX 360

3.9GB is the size of my Copy, downloaded it off the Marketplace.

If that's the case, then they are very good with optimization, and perhaps R* will also optimize sh*t the same. perhaps there will be 1 disk after all, and maybe they will not have HD video but just high quality video with no full screen. like when you watch a video the camera will be in the perspective of the character, so you can see your hand if you are viewing on a phone, or the whole TV if you are viewing on a TV.

82.

Oh, wait, I thought you asked how many threads had already been created on this topic. My bad smile.gif

Personally I think that the XBox will still be single disc, 6-7Gb should be plenty. We're not going to see the anthromorphobic "LA Noire"-style facial nonsense so I don't see a problem.

I said to play. If it goes the Halo 4 way, it will still only be 1 disc to play, so if there are 2 discs, and it goes the Halo 4 way, then I'm still right.

I know how to word things to make them better, and yet trick people wink.gif
