gremlinkurst
[spoiler ALERT!] There's this ship on the western shore of East Hook, Broker called the Platypus. I've never played this game multiplayer, so I don't know how this figures for that scenario, but there's a really neat Easter egg/glitch I routinely take advantage of in single-player you might appreciate (as well as special advantages on Happiness Island unrelated to that vessel). I don't know if it is the only ship in the game with interior players can access, but I first noticed something interesting as I flew past the ship while on a story mission: I noticed a light on through an open hatch on the O-3 level on the port side; it looked like you could get in. Returning later via wheeled vehicle, I found the main deck accessible via the gangplank/quarterdeck, BUT the vessel did not afford access to the O-1, O-2, or O-3 levels. Fine. I came back via chopper, hovered over the superstructure, and leapt out, sustaining only minor scrapes and contusions. I entered the bridge on the O-3 level and found armor on the plotting table aft of the helm controls. Cool! I went down and found nothing of interest on the O-2 level, but when I got to the first level above the main weatherdeck, it got more interesting. (Both the bridge and the crew quarters have hatches to port and starboard.) There are six staterooms, but there's nothing useful there. Sternward of the crew quarters is a ladder (STAIRS to you landlubbers) that leads to the mess deck and galley. The galley is past the mess deck, and there is a First Aid kit there on the horizontal surface (COUNTER to you landlubbers) that divides the two compartments. MOST important is that hatch in the galley. Make sure you've got a full kit (100% armor and weapons), and go back up the ladder to stand on the starboard weatherdeck of the O-1 level (or higher). Start sniping at passers-by and yardbirds until you attract John Law's attention, then kill them when they start threatening to shoot your nutsack off. Now that you've gained three stars, go back down to that hatch in the galley. The pigs are stacking up at that door like they think they can enter there (a behavioral artifact of a mission that was dropped before the retail version was released, perhaps; they don't do this at the hatch on the mess deck), and due to a no-clipping glitch, you can see parts of their bodies come through partway. Take out your knife, walk up to the hatch, and begin stabbing the sh*t out of them through the hatch. Only time I know of you can bring a knife to a gun fight and win. You'll automatically pick up weapons and ammo they drop if you have those items in your possession, and switch using E for ones you don't, but you won't be able to tell which guns you're picking up until it's too late. Stay there and kill for as long as you like (you may get bored even after the highest Wanted level is attained), stepping back to check your inventory to see how much impossible-to-get (yet) ammo has been scavenged. I haven't gone back and tried this with the advanced sniper, but I have with the .44, the Desert Eagle combat pistol, the P-90 SMG, the M-249 SAW (Advanced MG), the automatic shotgun, the gold Uzi, et cetera, and I wish I'd thought of it before I used up all the ammo for the rifle with the night scope. I only have two more story missions to go. It's really HILARIOUS to lob a Molotov cocktail at the hatch, 'cause the bodies burn forever and a day (LOVE those screams)…although you DO stand a chance of getting burned if a victim falls too close to the hatch. The armor on the bridge is supposed to be continually spawning as you run back and forth between the bridge and the First Aid kit in the galley, but it's not that reliable. Anyhow, I keep my Gold Uzi filled with ammo by doing this in between missions and drug wars (The new weapons so NOT spawn in your apartment every ten wars!!! The appearance of new weapons in your crib are STORY MISSION-LINKED, although you MIGHT have to have completed a minimum of drug wars in BETWEEN assignments.) That gold Uzi is truly handy for hijacks and convoys--but be WARNED: Rival drug dealers tend to be far more aggressive and accurate the more well-armed YOU are…or maybe I just suck. I haven't been able to escape the ship without getting sent to the hospital, but who gives a sh*t about a $100,000 hospital bill when you've won ten million gambling on the cage fights? Happiness Island: GREAT place to wage 6-star wars. Between the forever-spawning armor one level up from the ground entrance and the soda machines in the lobby and the vendor carts, you can fight for as long as you want, and you can get all the advanced MG weapons and ammo you could hope for (well, 600 rounds). It's best if you have explosive shells in you automatic shotgun, but you can make do with the combat sniper and M-249 SAW. If you don't have an M-249, use your assault rifle or Arkady Kalashnikov 47 to take out chopper gunners that have them (they don't use the M-249s until they get seriously pissed, and the only weapons I've seen them drop at all are the Glock 17s and M-249s). You may have discovered evasion of three stars or greater is impossible by chopper alone, which is why the GTA equivalent of Liberty Island is so important. If you're in a chopper with three stars or more, fly to that island and escape BY BOAT. Evading stars in a boat is really easy, provided you can take down the choppers in immediate pursuit. That's how I escape from the island alive all the time, by boat. I currently have seven and a half hours at six stars. I DO have a question for someone who knows more about this stuff, though: When I'm on the Platypus (gotta try it in TLAD and Vanilla) and I'm picking up Gold Uzi ammo, what weapons that the pigs are carrying are giving me clips? I've never seen them using the full-sized Uzis., but I'm sure as sh*t picking up 30-round clips (how come the clips are twenty rounds short?). I haven't tried, or I haven't noticed, but the ammo for the micro-Uzis should work, but I've noticed that GTA isn't that great when it comes to ammunition versus IRL. 9mm rounds don't care which model of gun it's in, and it's really annoying this game series ignores this. 5.7x28 cartridges don't care if they're being spit out by an HK P90 or an FN PS90, but I've noticed many weapons in this game are far more limited in ammo interchangeability than their IRL counterparts (you don't HAVE this problem in MOH and COD). Too bad I can't post my screenshots here. Maybe I'll get a site to host image uploads for this purpose…. Maybe someone out there with more brains than I have at my disposal can explain to me why this forum is censored, why it must have certain letters redacted, when the game is for big kids only. I mean, it's pretty silly when you're not even allowed to accurately quote gameplay dialogue. If you're not old enough to cuss, then you're too damned little to play the game, like those carnival rides with the sign that says, "If you are not this tall, you can't ride!" I mean, REALLY! You kill cops, rip off drug dealers, mug innocent victims, steal vehicles, and have sex with prostitutes in your car…you can choose a handjob, a blowjob, or go around the world, and you cannot publish language identical to that found in the game? Hmmm…let's see how this flies: Mierda, sheiße, gavno (гавно), or even goh (گوه). Edited November 23, 2012 by gremlinkurst

GTA Phreak
All pistol ammo is interchangeable. All SMG ammo is interchangeable (so get ammo for your gold uzi from dropped smg's and P90's) Assault rifle / AK / AMG ammo is interchangeable. All sniper ammo is interchangeable. Not completely sure about shotguns, since I only use the explosive rounds (and nobody drops those). Caliber has nothing to do with it, you can get ammo for your .44 from a dropped 9mm. In fact it is an advantage to get ammo from a different weapon, since the drop can then be milked several times.
