Alos, they have the option of editing the companies they want and make them different. I would say that the companies in GTA are just "influenced" by real ones but are not the exact same some far off. You can look up multiple companies and see that there a lot different then the original real ones, more then just a parody. And car damage and explosions would be VERY limited as manufacturers want to show minimum damage to their cars, especially when cars in GTA get banged up a lot and easy. It will be odd for Rockstar to use real-life cars and store name brands in a game that is a parody. For another reason, I always thought that Rockstar didn't want to pay extra money to buy license rights for real-life brands. His films feature no product placement as far as I can tell. It's a creative decision. It's Burger Shot instead of McDonalds because Rockstar don't want McDonalds in the game.
