Funny how people are saying southwest because that's how it is in real life. Judging from mapping thread, R* has abandoned the geographically realistic approach because they have put the Salton Sea based area north of LS when it's southeast of LA IRL and it's further from LA than San Diego.

Even though R* mixes things up(landmarks, natural landforms) I doubt they're gonna' make Los Santos facing NE NW or SE, I mean come on. If you actually examine everything, it's obvious LS is SE, only a little bit different.

Well, I imagine they wouldn't want L.S. to be the absolute southern end of the map overall, I think they will want to give it a slightly more central position. Obviously, there's a coastline south and west of L.S. but there could be some map area southeast of L.S., bumping up L.S. a bit from the southern edge of the map (and probably giving the map an overall upside-down L shape). I don't think it will be the furthest point west on the map either, I imagine there will be some land north of L.S. that will push a bit further in that direction.

 

Realistically, the southeast portion is where the Alamo Sea area Trevor starts in would be, but people in the Mapping Los Santos thread seem to primarily agree that it's more northern than the Salton Sea's actual location.

Before new trailer I was assuming north west, but after paying attention I'll say South-South West. Assuming the Vinewood faces the South.

Well the screenshot that posted Stephan123 rules out both north and south, the sun can't be that low over the horizon (not at real life California's latitude) unless it's either dawn or sunset, so east or west respectively.

At the risk to make a fool of myself, the screenshot shows a sunset. The air looks yellow/orange because of the sun's deep stand and light reflecting on the aerosols that were produced by the traffic and industry during the day.

Yes we do. The sun sets over the sea, therefore it is on the west, probably south-west. Also, I doubt it will be an island this time.

I just figured it out!

 

Los Santos will be located in the north-west!

I will explain this to you later today, as it will cost me some time to show you why, with all the screenshots, but when I'm back from my work, I'll have some interesting evidence for you!
