AT FIRST, THIS IS NOT A TOPIC THAT IS MADE TO START SOME CHILDISH CONSOLE WAR OR PROVOKE ANYONE TO FIGHT BETWEEN EACH OTHER - THIS IS A MATURE TALK ABOUT MAKING A DECISION. THANK YOU.

Hello!

I'm planning to buy a console somewhere in the Christmas time. I had an XBOX 360 some years ago but it got broken. I hadn't no console since then. Now, I'm planning to buy a console so I can play GTA V on it, and many more games too. Here's some detailed information about my preferences, that will help you help me decide which console, XBOX or PLAYSTATION (or maybe other even?), should I buy for Christmas:

1. I'm not a hardcore multiplayer gamer - I play it just occassionally.

2. I don't like shooters like CoD or MoH; I'm always into games that present some valuable storyline, like Metal Gear Solid (I used to have PS2 + I watched Guns of the Patriots playthrough on YouTube).

3. I don't really care for Kinect of Move - don't play to buy either one or the other.

And questions related to XBOX and PLAYSTATION:

1. What are the good sides and bad sides of Xbox Live and Playstation Network?

2. Is it true that PS3 exclusives have better graphics than any X360 game?

3. Which console is more quiet?

4. Which console has more potential to break down?

5. What are the unique features of X360, that PS3 doesn't have, and vice versa?

6. Some examples (with descriptions) of PS3 and X360 exclusives - just to make me sure which exclusives are more appealing to me.

7. Can I install PS3 games on its hard disc, like on XBOX?

8. Forza Motorsport 4 vs Gran Turismo 5? (NO WARS PLEASE)

Thanks for any help in making my decision!

Have a good day, mates Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

1. As Xbox Live is payed for by its users, it seems to have a lot more content and features than PSN. There is Party Chat where 8 people all on different games or none can speak together. Don't know much about PSN as I've never owned a PS3. There are apps now on XBL as well like YouTube, Netflix, LoveFilm, BBC iPlayer etc and PSN has some of these. Xbox has an ok web browser now which will run flash videos porn

2. With a well made game, it will look pretty much identical on both systems. In the case of Uncharted, it looks good because nothing really intense is going on like lots of explosion and objects on screen doing complex things. Xbox has the slight advantage though as it is easier for devs to develop on but GTA V should be equal on both systems.

3. With the Xbox slim, most of the noise will come from the disc drive but installing a game to the HDD will make it very quiet. The PS3 is just as quiet.

4. The latest models seem to have all their issues ironed out and I don't think any of them will break unless mistreated.

5. The PS3's BluRay drive is very attractive. Xbox has it's online service though which I believe is way better than PSN.

6. Can't answer to PS3 sorry but Xbox has:

Left 4 Dead

Forza

Halo

Gears of War

Fable

Dead Rising

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Xbox_360-only_games

7. I'm not sure but I think you can.

8. I would say Forza because of the customisable cars. There is also storefront where you can buy and sell tuning setups, vinyls, designs, watch replays and view photos.

1. PS3

2. PS3 since it have alot of exclusives which have different genres, that does not mean that Xbox does not have good games and story.

3. Both does not use Kinect much.

1.Both looks good.

2.I don't really now because PSN works good for me

3. Xbox 360 Slim since it does not have alot of noise when playing of a disk and such.

4. Both can break if not taken care of, Xbox have Red ring of death were it stops working but this was fixed for Xbox Slim.

5. Xbox have chat features where you can talk to your friends while playing other games and you can play music on any game unlike PS3 where not all games have this features. PS3 Have free online and PS PLUS where you can pay 40$ every year and get games per month.

6. Xbox have mostly shooters while PS3 have from fighting to super powers free roam.

7. No.

8. Forza and Gran Turismo is both good and not very different so if you like Forza 4 you will like Gran Turismo 5.

Have a good day, mates Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

My answers may be slightly biased. I did warn. I only answer what I know and from experience. It's not fact. So no arguments with me please. Just trying to help. smile.gif

1. XBL Live: From my experience is great for extra content, game review shows, better version of youtube and better search results than PS3. Im basing this on limited knowledge on PS3 (well, experience using it in my friends about a year ago). XBL seems more geared to hardcore gamers/avid gamers than just a platform for entertainment (PS3).

2. Can't comment on that. Not mad in to graphics so I'll null this one.

3. They can both be quiet or loud. I haven't compared them but my 360S is fine. I play with my volume quite low as it's kind of quiet in my house but I also don't want to disturb my bro next door. I hasn't bothered in the slightest and noises would normally.

4. Xbox's break down a lot. I work in Xbox support so I'm going to see this a lot anyway. Most of the repairs I come across are usually down to the console being mistreated. Really. 360S consoles have a much lower fail rate tha classic Xbox's.

6. I never really compare say Forza to GT. I've played both and I'd probably go for Forza. The interface and menu is so easy to navigate compared to GT. Both fantastic games. I don't think you'd be dissapointed if you got one and not the other. Hoewever, Forza is a Microsoft game designed to run on a Microsoft machine so you can take from that what you will.

7. Can't answer that but I guess you can.

8. Refer to 6.

You wont be dissapointed in whatever console you go for. Both have advantages and dissadvantages.

Personally, I chose Xbox for the price and it seemed like it was more geared at gamers than just trying to be an allround entertainment system. I figured I wanted my console for gaming. I don't care for Blu-Ray. Not yet. So it was an easy choice. I played PS2 to death. Got an original Xbox and then when the 360 came out, I went for it.

Also, it depends what controller you like. I like the ergonomics of the 360 controller and it's pressure sensitive triggers. I dislike the diameter turn of having larger tumbsticks (less control for me) without thumbgrooves.

Hope it helps. Good luck with your decision! smile.gif

Im sorry but what you said about Uncharted isn't true :L There are LOTS of big explosions and stuff like that in uncharted 2 and 3 wink.gif

He's talking about at any one time. For example GTA has traffic patterns and people walking about constantly, plus radio on with music running at the same time, whereas say.. Skyrim wouldn't have all this action at any given time so it can go nice on the graphics, if that makes sense.

1. XBLA is better, but PSN is free.

2. Yes. I'd say that's true, there is no game on consoles that look better than Uncharted 3/The Last of Us imo.

3. I'm not sure, i don't have a 360 anymore, i don't remember how loud or quiet was it compared to PS3.

4. Don't buy a 360 unless you're going to buy the slim version, the old ones break so easily.

5. PS3: Blu-Ray , Xbox 360: Party Chat.

6.

PS3:

-Uncharted 1/2/3 (Third person shooter, advnture-action).

-The Last of Us (Similar to Uncharted but more survival-horror).

-inFAMOUS 1/2 (Open world).

-Killzone 2/3 (First person shooter).

-Gran Tursimo 5 (Racing simulator).

-God of War 3 (Hack & Slash/Adventure).

-Demon's Souls (RPG).

-Resistance (First person shooter).

-LittleBigPlanet (Platformer).

Xbox 360:

-Halo (First person shooter)

-Gears of War 1/2/3 (Third person shooter, Action).

-The Witcher 2 (RPG).

-Left 4 Dead (First person shooter, Survival-horror).

-Forza 2/3/4 (Racing simulator).

-Fable 1/2/3 (Adventure).

-Alan Wake (Survival-Horror).

7. Yes.

8. I haven't played 4 but i played Forza 3, i prefer Gran Turismo 5.

Well, it looks to me that the PS3 exclusives are actually more "inviting", appealing to me. Do you think PS3 Ultra Slim is worth its price? Or it's better to save cash and invest in cheaper Slim version?

You can add Playstation All Stars Battle Royale to that PS3 List

No, it's way too expensive considering it's costs less to make than the old Slim version, buy that one.

The PS3 "Super" Slim has a much cheaper feel compared to previous models and with the disc loading tray at the top, it’s not exactly entertainment-friendly, so prepare to clear some floor or table space to position it, kinda annoying if you asked me, just buy the original PS3 Slim. smile.gif

I literally can't say, I have both and they both have their benefits and draw backs. For example, the Xbox has, perhaps, a better selection of games imo, and also has the ability to play music in the background and all that jazz. But on the other hand, the PS3 feels like a higher quality product to me, the OS and the general physical feel of the thing is just nicer I think. It is also a better console for general media, due to the Blu-ray player and the fact that featues such as BBC iPlayer are a lot better imo.

So they both win for me.

Triple Penetration

Xbox 360:

-Halo (First person shooter)

-Gears of War 1/2/3 (Third person shooter, Action).

-The Witcher 2 (RPG).

-Left 4 Dead (First person shooter, Survival-horror).

-Forza 2/3/4 (Racing simulator).

-Fable 1/2/3 (Adventure).

-Alan Wake (Survival-Horror).

Only 2 games in that list are proper X360 sequels. Quite unfair reasoning against PS3, methinks.

To OP, just get what your friends own, it will be better for you to get 360 if you enjoy talking over mic with multiple people, but if you don't, free MP on PS3 is better, and also less chance of a device failure on PS3. (But so many devices have a chance of breaking down completely, so it's also not fair to say 360 is a magnet of RRODs).

I personally wouldn't get any of those consoles, but who I dare to fool, I am just a puny PC gamer.

The poll is useless, the console with the most users will obviously win.

@Illegal luggage, the PS3 has a browser that plays flash videos too, just thought I would mention that.

Alright I have a PS3 so obviously I am going to biased a little.

1. If you only pay occasionally paying for Xbox live and the few extra features you get seems a waste of money, PSN is much easier in that regard, if you're just a casual multiplayer gamer you can hop on whenever and not concern yourself over whether you have live or not.

2. I would say both consoles have games with a valuable storyline, for PS3 Uncharted definitely has a god damn brilliant storyline, the game is linear, but it's still fun as hell and the storyline is what will reel you in for the sequels. I also hear Heavy Rain is incredibly storyline based.

1. XBL costs money (Not very much though, like $80 a year over here i think), but it has some better features like talking to friends over different games and lot's of cheap arcade games which are a lot of fun and downloads are a little quicker.

PSN is free though which is great for a casual player.

2. Well Graphics are subjective, I think that Uncharted 3 is the best looking console game ever, but it doesn't really matter that much, the differences between the best graphically intensive games is quite small. So the answer is probably no, both consoles have great looking exclusives.

3. My PS3 is quieter than my mates Xboxes by a good margin, He has a 360 slim and compared to my PS3 (From 2008) it's quite noisy.

However the noise still isn't very loud, unless you're comparing the two doesn't matter

4. Well The original Xboxes had a 30% failure rate or something like that, but now they are pretty reliable.

5. PS3 has Blu-Ray, 360 Has Cross-game chat.

6. Some people have already listed some and i'm in a hurry. Uncharted is definitely a game you want to play, not necessarily the gameplay, the storyline.

7. Yes you can install on Both.

8. GT5, Gran Turismo has been around a lot longer and has better perfected the race simulator more than Forza in my opinion They are both great though.

1.The good side of Xbox LIVE would be that you get DLC first and of course the bad side would be you have to pay every month for the service, but it is indeed better. The good side of Playstation Network is that its free and Playstation PLUS is a great service, and the bad side is once again that DLC comes later (usually a month) and the service quality isn't as good.

2. I really don't think so. Uncharted is a beautiful game, but Forza is pretty much on the same level.

3. I'd say the Playstation.

4. Depends on what make or model you get. I've never had an older Playstation YLOD on me but I have had an Xbox Arcade RROD and two of my other Xbox systems disc drives sh*t out.

5. The only thing that comes to mind would have to be the fact that you can listen to music off of a USB or Media Server at any given time. Windows Media Center is always a plus, as well as HBO GO. For the Playstation 3 I really can't think of anything other than the Blu-ray.

6. For Xbox:

The whole Halo franchise

The Fable franchise

Gears of War (great games; very appealing story line)

The Crackdown series (they're not completely terrible)

Forza series

For the Playstation:

God of War franchise

LittleBigPlanet franchise

SOCOM franchise (good games)

Metal Gear Solid 4

The Last of Us

Uncharted series (amazing franchise, would definitely recommend at least trying to play them)

Gran Turismo series

7. You indeed can.

8. They're both great franchises, so whatever you think looks the best is really what I'd go for. I personally have never played Gran Turismo, but I have Forza, and I guess I enjoyed it. Racing games aren't really my thing, so I really can't help you there.

I think this post is a great comparrison. icon14.gif

I'll help out anyways.

1. PSN and XBL are pretty much the same, but XBL is a paid service, and has alot more hackers and modders in multiplayer modes.

2. Yes, some PS3 exclusives have better graphics than 360 games.

3. The PS3 slim is very quiet if you keep the vents cleaned (clean about every 3-6 months, although it doesn't cause too much harm if you leave it for longer, just makes it louder and risks overheating). I'm not sure about Xbox but from what I've heard they have very loud disc drives.

4. The older Xboxs broke down alot, but apparently this has been fixed in the newer versions. Generally 360s have a higher fail rate.

5. PS3 has Blu-Ray (which fits more than Xbox discs and allows for a better playing experience, as you don't need to constantly swap discs) and Xbox has Party Chat, which is rather useless if you ask me.

6. PS3 has a large variety if exclusives, such as

Gran Turismo 5 - Racing simulator

LittleBigPlanet series - Platformer, but LBP2 has alot of games which aren't platformers, such as top down racing and shooting, Tetris, Pacman, and alot more. I think it got an award for most genres covered in one game.

The Last Of Us - Third Person Shooter

Heavy Rain - Story-based detective game, with alot of different choices in the story which affects the ending.

ModNation Racers - Very customisable kart-racing game.

Resistance Series - First Person Shooters

In general Xbox's exclusives aren't that varied, they are mostly just shooting games.

Halo - First Person Shooter

Gears of war - Third Person Shooter

Forza - Arcade Racing Game

Crackdown - Third Person Shooter

Fable - Roleplaying Game (I think)

Saints Row 1 - Open world gang-themed game. The other 2 in the series are on PC and PS3, however, so SR isn't a brilliant USP for the 360.

7. Yes, you can purchase downloadable games.

8. Depends what you like more. Forza is more of an arcade track racing game, but GT5 is a racing simulator that covers alot of different things, such as go-karting, rally, drifting, GT500, F1, Le Mans, just to name a few. It has brilliant performance customization too, allowing you to tailor the car to your style.

I hope I helped! colgate.gif

1. What are the good sides and bad sides of Xbox Live and Playstation Network?

Xbox live is more secure and you get the DLC earlier so it is worth paying for it. PSN is not secure however and that is why it's free.

2. Is it true that PS3 exclusives have better graphics than any X360 game?

I wouldn't say so. I would say they are fairly similar once you download the game to the HDD on Xbox.

3. Which console is more quiet?

Both seem to be the same - I've never had any problems with the noise my Xbox produces.

4. Which console has more potential to break down?

I would say Xbox but PS3's have a good chance of breaking too.[/b]

5. What are the unique features of X360, that PS3 doesn't have, and vice versa?

Xbox live is secure unlike PSN has been in the past and you can download games to the HDD which improve the graphics, make it load quicker and make the Xbox quieter. The connection is always good for me whereas when I play on my friend's PS3, the connection is crap and he has a decent Internet provider.

6. Some examples (with descriptions) of PS3 and X360 exclusives - just to make me sure which exclusives are more appealing to me.

There are some games that are available on Xbox that aren't on PS3 - and vice versa. Just depends what kind of games you enjoy playing and if any of the ones available only on Xbox appeal to you.

Also, Xbox has the feature to start private and party chat, even if you are playing different games. The PS3 does not offer this.

7. Can I install PS3 games on its hard disc, like on XBOX?

Not that I know of, which is a big let down and a huge advantage to Xbox. You can download them online on the PS3 but you can also do that for Xbox.

8. Forza Motorsport 4 vs Gran Turismo 5? (NO WARS PLEASE)

Forza Motorsport 4. Love the game and I have no reason to think about Gran Turismo.

There is difference between enjoying features and sharing the joy and calling features of competition useless, because you won't use them.

It's time to say something here, before this topic die, because of flame war and as a owner of both of them I believe I may say something.

Here are the answer to your questions.

1. What are the good sides and bad sides of Xbox Live and Playstation Network?

Xbox live is paid, but it provides faster, more stable and more secured connection. Marketplace is easier to navigate to casual people. If you decide to pay for Live you get access to Web Browser (IE), Youtube and similar features. If you decide to use Xbox live silver, which is free you can still browse Marketplace, download demos and DLCs.

PSN is free, but works slower and got lowered security. Some people can't connect to it without apparent reason. You also got web browser. There is also paid feature called PSN plus, which gives you discounts on items on store and free game every month. PSN store was not long ago changed into one of the most terrible things ever.

You said that you're casual multiplayer user. In that case PSN seems more fitting you as you don't have to pay to play.

2. Is it true that PS3 exclusives have better graphics than any X360 game?

It is mostly applicable to Uncharted series, which is in fact very nice game, but nothing really special in my opinion. Rest of the games are comparable. Many multiplatform games looks better on xbox though, but these are differencies that you will see only if you compare screens from the game put next to each other.

3. Which console is more quiet?

The loudest one is definitely old Xbox Arcade, as it sounds as starting plane. Xbox slim and PS3 are working more quietly, but you can still hear fans and drive. Let's say they as loud as normally working PC.

4. Which console has more potential to break down?

Old xbox or PS3 "Fat". Newer consoles are more reliable. Generally speaking all of them will break if you mistreat them. I know people who still have working xboxes bought in the first days and I heard about PS3 breaking in two weaks after premiere. Don't play in dusty areas, don't smoke near console, don't keep it in tight places during playing, don't hit it, don't drop it and it should work perfectly for couple of years.

5. What are the unique features of X360, that PS3 doesn't have, and vice versa?

Xbox cross chat for Xbox and Blu-Ray disks for PS3, which were previously mentioned. Rest is pretty much the same for both consoles.

6. Some examples (with descriptions) of PS3 and X360 exclusives - just to make me sure which exclusives are more appealing to me.

Most of the exclusives were mentioned in the previous posts. Xbox is targeted mostly on hardcore players, so it has more shooters, where PS3 tries to get best of both worlds.

Games worth buying PS3 for are Uncharted (Let's say Tomb Rider with guy instead of woman) Gran Turismo 5 (legendary racing series) and God of War (hack & slash in greek mythology).

Games worth buying Xbox for are Forza Motorsport 4 (well known racing series), Gears of War (sci-fi TPS), Alan Wake (great survival horror).

7. Can I install PS3 games on its hard disc, like on XBOX?

IIRC not all of the games can be installed on HDD on PS3 (maybe something changed), but almost every game can be installed on Xbox which usually reduces the noise made by drive and loading times.

8. Forza Motorsport 4 vs Gran Turismo 5? (NO WARS PLEASE)

Don't believe people saying that GT5 is simulation and FM4 is arcade. This is bullsh*t, because both of them can be called semi-simulators. Generally GT5 is a bit more hardcore game, which shows its full potential when you're using steering wheel (of course you may play on joypad) and FM4 is more casual game, which allows even total noobs to have fun. In terms of simulating cars behavior both of them are as good.

Generally you don't have to listen to us and pick whatever you like. Look what your friends are using, so you have people to play with and look at the exclusives. Rest doesn't matter, because you will have fun with one of the consoles. Games are mostly multiplatform these days, so it makes the choice even less important. If you're casual player maybe you should look at Wii for example (note, it's very specific console for specific players - Nintendo).

Whatever you choose, threat you console well and have fun.

I'd just like to note, that you should NEVER buy GTA IV on 360.

The multiplayer mode is FULL of hackers, every time you go to MP it has hackers.

I imagine the same would happen to GTA V in the future, too, regardless of the precautions R* take.

PS3 is much more secure in terms of hackers and stuff.

There's people who say "oh PS3 gets hacked lololol" just because the network got hacked a while back, and PSN is MORE secure now after the downtime.

People don't seem to realise that Xbox is less secure, with every MP game bursting with modders.

And as you see by your poll, more people have voted PS3, so PS3 would be the way to go icon14.gif

I always liked the 360... since we have to pay for live the features are 100 times better than playstation. I have both consoles so I am not biased really but I will tell you that I only use my PS3 for blu ray. If you have a lot of friends that are gamers even casual ones the 360 is the better option due to the chat functionality with people across multiple games. Also remember that you have a ton of apps like Netflix Youtube etc you can add on 360. My PS3 is basically my blu ray player and maybe I'll play agent on it when it comes out. My roommate plays some stuff on it but we have a combined collection of literally 3 PS3 games (IV, Gran Turismo and Infamous) and a sh*tload of old PS2 games that we never use.

1 Good sides of PSN: Free, Good community,

Bad sides of PSN: Less people with microphones, no party chat

Good sides of XBL: Party Chat, more people have mics,

Bad sides of XBL: Bad community (a lot of squeakers play Xbox) Cost money, Microsoft doesn't care about their customers
