Im so sick of people saying this stuff...

PEOPLE, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT R* HERE! They have never put forth a less than stellar GTA effort. I can't even think of a less than stellar game that they've released in the past 10 years.

The game has been in the design phase for years and years. If it wasn't going to work, they wouldn't be talking about it this late in the game!

Just have some faith. GTA is one of their biggest names and they aren't about to ruin it.

GTAIV (vanilla) was kind of a disappointment, in my opinion multiplayer was the only thing that saved it.

The first time I drove into the Manhattan section of IV I got chills up my spine.

It is such a detailed and huge world, I don't know how you could feel that way.

Any other company would have released a half assed effort with little detail.

At first I was super-hyped about this 3 main characters thing, but after a while I started thinking about it and realized it may not be as awesome as it looks.

Sure, switching between characters when they are all available in a mission is cool and allows you to skip those "boring" moments we all know about. But, is it worth it? Is this "bold new direction" the right path to follow?

For those who were lucky enough to try Driver: San Francisco you already know what it feels like to control multiple game characters at a time. Even tho you never get to leave the cars, using them to block the suspects you're pursuing, taking out the competition during a race, or ramming into cops who are chasing you is certainly something that adds a lot to the game... except when it doesn't.

The thing I hated the most was the fact the AI was as clever as a chair. Seriously, I lost count of the number of times I switched to another car and latter found mine crashed against another car, wall or simply going the wrong way. That's what is starting to worry me...

As much as I would like it to be perfect, we all know R* (or any other game developer), is not perfect and given the limitations they have they can't implement anything close to that either. AI will not be smart enough to do what we want it to do, as usual... you can already count on that.

Another thing that starts to worry me is the character "auto-pilot" thing. Each character has its own daily routine (stuff to do), and when we aren't controlling them they will try to complete those tasks, which will find them doing sometimes... cool, right? Right?! Well... maybe not.

One thing I like in IV (same applies to III, VC, SA, etc.) is the fact that you start your game from where you saved the last time. Since the characters move, where the hell will they be when you load your game? Will your character be miles away from home, forcing you to drive all the way back so you can get that precious car you left parked next to your door?

What about when they get into trouble like NPCs in IV get into? How the hell are we supposed to pull off a getaway with two or three characters at a time? Are they going to be smart enough to evade the police?

Then there's another thing people, like myself, may not like: most of those who played Red Dead Redemption did not like to play as John's son after completing the story. The same will happen with GTA V, as I am pretty sure those will try to avoid one or two characters as much as they can. I said "as much as they can", because they will often be forced to switch between characters as the situation demands it.

I always liked GTA because, after a while, you start getting into the head of your character. Now... don't get me wrong, we can still do that in V, but don't tell me constantly changing between characters won't make it harder, because it will... specially when you don't like the new character.

R* also said V will be all about money and won't lack stuff to spend it on, unlike IV. That's awesome, but then again... will we have 3 different "wallets"? Just one?.. Certainly just one wouldn't make much sense as there are three protagonists, but (assuming you can't share money between characters, as that wouldn't happen in real life either) the other option would take us the triple amount of time to save a variable amount of money, which is boring.

I understand the need for "a bold new direction", but is this too much?

Overall, the game look great and despite being skeptical about this multiple protagonists thing (among others) I'm still going to pre-order it. Not only because... well, it's GTA, but also because I can't wait to try all characters and see what the game has to offer!

i understand, i'm also concerned about this. although i trust in rockstar and belive that in the end, they won't dissapoint.

Even though it was disappointing it was still a good game it just wasn't worth the praise it gets. Sure the game world was highly detailed but once you've finished the story there isn't much to do, even replaying the story wasn't that fun since most of the missions were just gun fights in different parts of LC.

I totally agree with the OP, this 3-characters thing is going to be on-the-fence until we actually play the game.

It could be good, switching to the getaway driver after shooting your way out of a bank...

BUT, the whole "AI free-roam" thing seems like it will suck. I really rely on the load/save exactness, especially for vehicles, so, having a 5x larger map, with characters who do not stay in one place, thats going to be a problem.

Edit: Of course, none of this will be a problem when I mod the PC version tounge.gif

I back the 3 protagonist choice 100%, ALTHOUGH, i just hope it doesn't make the missions too easy.

I don't think it will be too easy because now (as long as info is correct) there is 3x's the chance of dying on a mission, especially if the AI is wonky.

While missions may be harder due to having to keep 3 people alive, and only controlling 1 of them at a time, I am excited for 3 protagonists, and I have no doubts that R* will make the game fun.

Some good points. But, I think your over thinking it a bit. I'm sure R* has thought about all these concerns and if they thought they couldn't do majority of these, they wouldn't have the the multiple protagonists. We still know very little about this function and haven't even seen it in action. Just have faith!

Here is what we know.

-Three Protags.

-Can switch in free roam at any time EXCEPT while wanted.

-Characters will go about daily activities while you are away.

We don't know how these activites will work, the nature of them, or if the character can die. We don't know if he uses cars and vehichles you have saved, if he will get into cop chases, or get into gun fights. And if they get into chases we don't know if they can get busted. Logically, in order to maintain a balanced game they would be unkillable and unbustable and they wouldn't take your cars. But we don't know. And until we do, I don't think this type of criticism is valid.

Some people just can't accept change, seriously. Move on. Multiple protagonists will only add to the gameplay, not take away from it.

I'm sure if GTA3 started out as multiple protagonists, and now they were going down the route of a solo protagonist, you'd be all bitching about the same thing.

Very well said. One thing about this forum for some reason lots of these guys hate opinions but you gave an opinion and I 110% agree with you.

Before some fanboy comes in and rages and says "wait till it comes out!" we'll we are. I'll be buying it ASAP too, and I'll love the game regardless, but there are so many flaws with this multiple player I just don't see them being to fix anywhere near all of them.

I wish it was 1 character so you could progress with him. Having the open to do others I naturally will and it will ruin part of the idea of the game. Some parts your even forced to (fact)

Other problems are things like money like you mentioned. 3 different wallets?

What about when the layers in combat together. AI is never great, do while you switch is the other protagonist going to just be useless? Or will they kill for you?

The idea of when you switch other players will be off in random places is annoying. I want my player where I put him.

Unfortunately, so idiot at rocks tar convinced management they need to be progressive and go this route and I wish he was fired.

I'll be per ordering the game, rock star will get their money, I will absolutely love the game but they had potential and lost a lot of it. No matter if they magically fix 99% of the potential issues with multiple portags, it won't be the same at all.

EDIT: excuse the typos, I'm posting from an iPad and the auto correct is on drugs today lol

Deal with it

Well obviously were all going to and it's not like any of us won't be buying the game, but we're allowed to say a few idiots at rockstar reaaaaly potentially messed this up.

Some very good points, but R*, being the behemoth that they are, will have no doubt considered all of this and perfected it as best as they can.

Because Bold new direction means a Road full of Boulders with a sign next to it saying "NEW"

It was expected from the Start, wonder why there was multiple protagonists threads all over the place?

Then until the GI finally came out, it was three protags.

The idea is good and non-repetitive, It's the first time a GTA game had anything like this.

it might not be what people expected but thats what brings more people towards the game.

Driver has always been a decent enough game (in my opinion), but I didn't like the mind-warp thing in Driver:SF's demo so I didn't buy the game.

Still, I trust R* much more with this concept - it actually has different characters rather than the same character in a differing body... an important distinction!

I'd break down the reasons I disagree with this post but typing on this iPad isn't fun. They have a huge fan base. Your talking like a bean counter who's only interested in profits. Satisfy the fan base.

Also, without making a separate post, I'll just post this here. I laugh at everyone saying how "oh don't worry it's rockstar they couldn't possibly mess up"

Well I'm sorry to say this on this forum, buy gta4 was majorly messed up. In terms of how great it was compared to previous titles, it was almost a failure.

That being said, gta4 is still one of the greatest games ever created and the serious is my favorite ever.

But it's like this, rockstar giving us this awesome game is like a gift to us. We should all appreciate it yes but I see making a few mistakes in 5 would be like giving us a bag of a hundred grand cash. Yes, that's awesome. Hell yeah, I'll take it. Hell yeah, I'm a fan. But.... If they did it right and it would be like giving us a bag with a million cash in it, and they are fully capable. 3 protagonist will somewhat hurt immersion, bottom lone. Lots of flaws they can't possibly all fix. Don't fix it if it aint broke, they can still be incredibly cutting edge and new with 5 they should have just stuck with 1 protagonist in my eyes. It's not wrong for us to complain, rockstar could have given us a bag with a million cash in gta4 and they didn't, only 100k. Was it great? Hell yeah, we're so lucky. Loved it anyway... But I'm just afraid they are doing that again. We will see. They have my money regardless
