Your first video game experience

What was your first video game experience growing up. How did you become a gamer.

My grandmother bought an NES and was obsessed with it.

The only games she owned for the first few years were Legend of Zelda, Mario, and Battle of Olumpus. I played those three games nonstop.

The collection eventually grew to adventures of link and the next 2 Mario games.

For my 4th birthday I got a sega genesis with sonic the hedgehog.

I was fairly poor growing up so I would always save my gifts for the next time a new sonic was released. I've been gaming ever since.

How bout you guys?

Shouldn't this be in gaming chat

Hmmm maybe your right. Woops

Moved.

I don't remember what my first game was. I was given my sister's Commodore 64 when I was something like 7 or 8 years old. I have a feeling it was Batman: The Caped Crusader.

Pong.

Me too. They had one at Manchester Airport - along with banks of coin operated TVs that were attached to seats. I remember the way it fizzed and hummed and the paddle had a little screenburn contrail in its wake. Awesome - felt like you were part of the space programme.

Second was Boot Hill - It wasn't that much different to pong in terms of gameplay, both players were at the side and could only move up and down. The difference was you had to dodge instead of hit.

On Dendy it was Super Mario Bros., some Athletic game and another Mario-looking platformer about some caveman. On PC, it was a Winnie the Pooh themed game about English alphabet.

I grew up with a group of kids who played Pokemon, and after I moved from that place hung out with someone who had a gamecube and tons of games for it (mostly Sonic and Mario stuff). My family was moving around the time Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal was popular, so I ended up missing a whole generation of Pokemon games, but I did introduce the third generation to the kid with the gamecube.

Apparantely we used to have a Commodore here but I can't remember that far back.

We had a SEGA, I can remember that and we played Sonic on it and Postboy (or whatever that game is called), but I must've played video games before that, I just can't remember tounge.gif

Some Sega Classics demo disc on my Windows 95(or was it Win 98) don't remember.

I recall there was a Daytona USA race, and a Garfield level, Comix Zone...

My first gaming experience was on the Sega Megadrive. First game I completed was Sonic The Hedgehog. Around the corner from me, across the street (the street I wasn't allowed cross) there was a shopping centre. I remember a que of people wanting to play Sonic in the shop display console. that was 1991. I was 6. biggrin.gif

I also have ealry memories playing Super Mario Land on the first-gen Gameboy and Super Mario Land: 6 Golden Coins. Loved that game. I had the magnifier adapter, light and speaker adapter from my GB. Brilliant.

Didn't really become a 'hardcore' gamer until Vice City/San Andreas.

I don't really remember. I only remember playing some games like Tomb Raider, Super Mario, Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight and Battletoads.

I wasn't really interested into video games until my friend had like WrestleMania XX or something. I played it for a bit, got bored, and when I came over to his house, his father was playing GTA III. That is also the first time I ever became a GTA fan as well.

I don't remember my girst game, but I know I remember playing something at a kids house. It was probably on some sort of Nintendo, maybe a 64?

Anyways, apparently afterwards I remember seeing a "gaming" channel button on one of our tv's and I remember saying something about how I want to use it. Well, after moving to a new city we had our first christmas there, my parents got my sisters and I an xbox and Airforce Delta Storm, Shrek, and I think Cel Damage.

I played a little bit of Airforce, my dad was the one who played that all the time. He even beat it. My sisters and I would pretty much only kick a chicken in a corner of the map on Shrek, it would create a bunch of fathers, hilarious!

Now Cel Damage, that is an amazing game, I still play it to this day. It's just good old fun. My sisters and I loved that sh*t!

Test Drive 5 and Driver, I was really into racing games when I was five. Also think I played a bit of a game called World's Wildest Police Chases as well, then discovered GTA when I was around 10. That's how I grew up to be the homicidal maniac you see before you.

Ex Hellraiser

I remember back in 2000, my uncle bought a PS2 in December, and he bought NASCAR 2001, and as a 4 year old, I liked fast cars and driving the wrong way, so I generally loved the game. Then, I was given an N64, and drove around in Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing. Good fun for me. Now I drive every which way in GTA, shooting old ladies as I speed past. devil.gif

This was the first video game I played in my life, back when my big brother got a SNES for Christmas in 1995. Good memories...

The earliest video game I remember playing was:

It brings back many memories and it is one of the main reasons why I took up piano since some of the soundtrack consisted of Beethoven in the sequel.

I also remember playing Flight Simulator 95 which I loved despite the fact that I didn't have a joystick and everytime I tried to turn with the arrow keys it just ended in disaster.

After that I played GTA 2 at a friends house and one thing lead to another and before you know I'm a GTA addict.

The first game I ever played was some strange indie game or something on the PlayStation 2 my dad bought in 2002. The thing I remembered most about it is that it made no sense. The second game I ever played was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. These were both bundled for free with the console, and the latter game I still have.

Pong.

Yup...Same.

It was weird when pong and then brakeout invaded the arcades. Everyone was lined up at their pinball machines and almost no one played the weird video game tucked away in a dark corner.

f*ckin A...Space Invaders blew my mind when it came out though.

It was a hand me down Atari from my uncle with the likes of Frogger, Combat and I think Asteroids. But it was the SNES and Mario Kart that made me an addict.
