Racecarlock
I can't believe people worry about being stranded in the middle of the road with no gas, how often does that happen in real life?? Pretty much NEVER. The first time I played Mafia II, I didn't even know there was a fuel gauge because I never drove around enough in the same car for it to run out. You can drive for hours before your gas runs out in real life, in-game you would get bored of your car before that would happen. How do you know how I play? Are you spying on me? Look, if it would be barely even noticeable, then why put it in in the first place? Most people won't notice it and most people that do will hate it. I shouldn't have to worry about fuel consumption in a game. This is not reality, it's GTA. You know, the series that had a mission where you spread porn ads around with a plane? The one where even in IV you still had tank rampages thanks to DLC? This is not a simulator, it's a visualization of a crime movie world. How many people criticize a movie for not having enough car refueling scenes, huh?

Dragonjack
The roads and highways are very long in Grand Theft Auto V and that would be actually annoying if you had to re-fuel your car aswell to be honest. But still it will indeed add more realism to it very much. How so? The roads in V can't be any longer than 15-20 miles I'm sure. And with a nice little gas station/convenient store here and there it shouldn't be a problem. I mean a full tank averagely get's 300-400 miles. Yeah I actually have to agree on that to be honest and it would probably be a good idea after all perhaps.

Racecarlock
I don't know. What if i'm driving a rare beauty and boom, no gas. unlimited gas cheat, of course. Yeah great, now I literally have to bend reality just to not to have to stop for gas every hour. God forbid someone spend time coding in a pedestrians riot cheat and someone else spend time coding in a new cool plane or something, nope, we need this virtual gas feature that people will either hate or not notice and a cheat to turn that feature off. You know, because it worked so well in san andreas with hunger.
norcalian
I think I have the solution. It's a bit of a compromise but it would work. Don't force the cars to require fuel, but still add functional gas stations. So you can still get out of your car and pump gas into your car, but it's just for show. p.s. I would love to pay bills. My biggest frustration with IV was making all that money knowing I have nothing to spend it on.

Why not make GTA a soulless, boring game that only focuses on driving and shooting with no details or references to real life at all. Make the buildings giant grey squares and make pedestrians wear the same clothes and do nothing but walk. Yeah, wouldn't be too much fun would it? The point is not whether you notice or not, a lot of things I didn't notice at first in GTA IV, like taxi drivers throwing empty cups out of their windows, added a lot of depth to the game over-all. I personally like to roleplay at times when I'm bored, and this would add some immersion.

We have the animation, so all the role players have to do is imagine they're running out of gas and stop at the station, rather than forcing a meter on everybody to make them do it. Also, I'd rather buy planes and cars than pay bills buddy.

So, you would like to spend money with no reason? Tell me how would that work @DE4TH Then why don't you stop your car when you have been driving it for a while? I mean, here we have a medium that can send us off to faraway lands like Skyrim and the star wars universe and the worlds of crime movies (GTA), and here you are just using it to recreate the same boring, drab routine you have in real life. Plus, there are plenty of ways to increase the immersion without hitting me over the head with a fuel gauge.

Algonquin Assassin
See I think it's the little things that make it so awesome. In GTA IV I think all the tiny details it what brings it to life, but this is the stuff around me. I drive in real life and let me tell you there's nothing satisfying about having to do it in real life so why would I want do it in a video game? I guess R* could add an animation, but wouldn't it feel a bit cheap if you're just doing it for no real reason? There's not a lot R* could do that would either make it annoying or pointless if it barely makes a dent in the experience. We've gone this long without having to refuel. I think we can survive without it in GTA V.

H. León
@Miami Yeah, GTA wouldn't be nothing without all the little details in the environment. But there's a line between fiction and reality. I'm sure that 99.9% of the people would like to ride their cars without having to waste money in gasoline.

significantother
For god sakes, this has already been discussed to death. No. There is no need to have fuel in GTA games. That would just be a pain in the butt, plus they aren't really going for the realistic gameplay anymore.
Troll Proof
I guess R* could add an animation, but wouldn't it feel a bit cheap if you're just doing it for no real reason? There's not a lot R* could do that would either make it annoying or pointless if it barely makes a dent in the experience. We've gone this long without having to refuel. I think we can survive without it in GTA V. It's the best way to do it. For some fans, being able to do the little things is more entertaining than it is the big things. What I'm saying is that the small immersive details such as fueling animations, turn-signals, sitting down, riding the bus and even (GASP!!) traffic laws help the gamer to better immerse into the setting. It's a psychological effect that they want and the reward they get is just as gratifying as another gamer gets when they mow down a block full of people or blow up cars. Personally, I mainly play GTA to role play and to explore, so the more animations, state machines, little details>>the better. If Rockstar is keen on enhancing the setting, then the player should be able to do such "pointless" tasks. Much like the state machines giving peds day to day routines, simple animations such as fuel, among others, brings the environment to life. Signal1
The only thing I want to do in regards to opening a gas tank is stuff down a piece of cloth, light it and watch it blow up. Wouldnt it be much more fun to ensure the tank is full for a bigger explosion? True fuel dynamics? Its going to be a fun and vibrant economy. You can bet fuel is in. Remember they said there will be planty to spend your hard earned cash on? Fuel should be one of the. It will make you think more about the vehicles you own / buy. Hmm, do I go with a carby fed V8, or that twin turbo 6? Obviously the turbo 6 cause you have more power and less fuel consumption. You will have to think before you act. I want to commit "X" crime, hmm, fuel is low, might get in a chase, better fuel up. It will be incredible. Just wait, for the fuel haters, you will change your mind when you fuesl up for the first time in GTA V. Oh, and dont even get me started about having to refuel aircraft. Gone are the days of unrealistic flying everywhere. You will have to plan out your flight route and calculate fuel. The cost of aviation fuel is expensive, great money sink into a fun and vibrant economy. Sick.

Signal1
I could see fueling being in the game, but mostly because I can see a cheat for having unlimited gas It HAS to be part of the fun and vibrant community. Imagine doing service station drive offs lol. Awsome. Imagine your boat is low on fuel? You have to trailer up and fill it at the service station. Come on, how sick is that! Or do multiple trips with a gas canister. Or even better, they have marine service stations. Whoa, that just blew my mind.

How good will it be to drive in for fuel and see its to expensive. You can drive down the road for a better deal. Then rob the service station lol. This would be awsome.
