How improved will melee and parkour be?

I would love better parkour, GTA IV felt a bit sloppy. Something similar to sleeping dogs would be awesome.

Maybe an ability of Franklin is parkour (as he is younger).

As some who actually practices parkour, I could see it being implemented, but not to the extent you guys are assuming it would be. Being completely honest, for the main characters, entry level pk is not all that difficult. Hell, Niko had the rolls down. Vaults, Jumps, climb-ups, and other basic moves are things that are plausible for people their age. Look at Watch Dogs...

If I'm honest, I can't see any of the 3 protags doing parkour. Especially Trevor and Michael, can you imagine? lol tounge2.gif

Each character has different abilities so I would imagine franklin being the best at it then trevor a little sloppy and michael would be like niko lol.gif

And in MP it would be the same for everyone I guess lol

If I'm honest, parkour would be a little out of place in GTA, at least for me. I mean, it's in Assassin's Creed because it's the core mechanic of the game basically (that, and because getting around the city would take forever in all of the setting the games have been in, especially without cars, even though they do have horses). There really isn't a point to it being in GTA, we have cars, planes, trains, etc to get around. Sure it'd be fun, but it doesn't really have a use, nor does it add much to the game (in terms of immersion), apart from having fun jumping from building to building or something. But then they've added yoga to the game, so, I don't know, lol.

Parkour is not only jumping from building to building, and this is a big misconception.

Parkour is moving trough the enviroment swiftly, fast and efficient and negating the obstacles in front of you. I hated how slow niko felt and believe me it felt unrealistic, same with the fighting. It's not that I'm asking for realistic stuff, but there has to be a balance between realism, fun and over realism.

This video shows how sleeping dogs did it, which is pretty well done IMO and a "light" version of this could be fun in gta adding to gunfights, and chases. Imagine you are out of ammo and have to escape? this way it would feel pretty epic, lol in gta 4 you just feel pathetic when jumping fences or running and such lol.

The thing is, do we really need that in GTA? (Do we really need yoga? Probably not, we'll see what that even does though) The thing about Niko was that he wasn't some young kid that was a rebel (or whatever the generalization is for parkours). He was a 35 some year old man that came out of the Yugoslavian Military. Of course he isn't gonna be a fast character, he was trained to fight and shoot. Though I will admit he was a bit slow an cumbersome in his movements. That said, parkour wouldn't fit Niko's character. And it definitely wouldn't fit Michael's or Trevor's characters either. Maybe Franklin, but not by much. (Of course this is just me, but I'm fairly sure it wouldn't fit their characters).

Let it be said, that I think that actually is a poor example of parkour in a game. It doesn't seem as fluid as Assassin's Creed II (from what I remember anyways), or even Mirrors Edge.

I never really found myself running out of ammo in IV. The only game I've found myself running out of ammo in was RDR Undead Nightmare, but that was there for a purpose. I do see you point, but I really just do not see it in a GTA game. Unless they take a bold new direction that would constitute adding this to the game, I just don't see it.

Maybe I explained myself wrong.

I don't want it to be as elaborated as AC or SD. I just want a light version. This would work great with the "different characters have different abilities". Basically sliding trough car's hoods and when jumping fences or some other thing it should be faster and character shouldn't feel sloppy (depending on who it is of course). This combines with euphoria would be really fun.

In the end, I guess it's a difference of opinion. I at least want it to feel faster than iv and not sloppy.

It will be exactly the same as gtaIV. They literally cant be f*cked to get off their arses and code a proper fighting mechanism. Maybe next generation.

So basically being able to jump over fences faster or being able to slide across hoods? Those have a better chance of making it into the game than something like what I was thinking. But again, it's hard to even really do something like that for characters like Michael and Trevor, who are just a little bit older than you average person who does parkour. Franklin on the other hand I do see having the ability to do things just a little bit faster than the other two.

Sorry, but your avatar is going on my nerves..

You do know the "belieber/pot head" threads ended nearly two years ago, and you're moaning at him for his avatar.

What about them? confused.gif

May i ask?

Ok, waaaay back in the time before GTA V was announced the V section was a quiet place - alright not too quiet as it's always had its reputation for housing the newer members of the forums (IV section was like this about five years ago) but I digress ...

In the kind of olden days the GTA Forums members had a little game, or test of faith we liked to play, guessing when GTA V would be announced. You'd go into the thread and either pick team red or team yellow, each one of these colours represented a side - the red I think meant that you didn't think it would be announced and the yellow meant that you thought that it would.

Anyway, to cut a long story short after the event (IE E3 for example) passed the side who guessed wrong would be forced to were a Justin Bieber signature, a small group was also made during this time known as the "Belibers" ... get it ? ....

Getting back on track, after a number of events the final game was set up by Toup and the loser would have an image of Daniel Radcliffe ( Harry Potter - therefor the Harry Pothead reference) as their forum avatar - this guy guessed wrong and what was meant to have been a badge of shame he's turned into his permanent avatar, two years after the games ended.

That is why it's ironic for him to be insulting your avatar.

OT: Jumping, yay .... ?

Melee combat has been upgraded.I think that means we can do environmental attacks. We can expect a better cover system.coz, the cover system in IV wasn't that good.

As a parkour enthusiast myself, I would absolutely love R* to implement more of a free-running system in GTAV. I agree that IV felt very slow. The point of freerunning is to keep on moving, yet niko would awkwardly stop and stand still whenever he jumped/climbed something. sad.gif

I think that something like AC or even The Saboteur would be going a litle too far -- it would be kind of dumb if you could scale buildings, especially in Multiplayer. However I'm talking about a Sleeping Dogs level of freerunning/parkour -- that'd be great.
