Area Crowding?

From any past open world game that involves Citizens, they all ran short off memory off how many people or cars can be in the one Area,

and reading from interviews there putting alot off emphasis on pushing this Gen to its limits,

you may not think of it pre-release but its something that always comes up after.

Will the game be able process alot off people, Vehicles and activity's happening in the same place

for those who dont what im talking, and had played open games, its when you see someone, turn around for a few secs turn back around and there gone, or when you got to an open Road you struggle to see many cars in one area without disappearing

so whats your thoughts on GTA 5 Improving this to the point where you can follow someone full zoom with your Sniper, would love to see real Traffic Jams, Burn out Paradise did it, but that was just cars, but still shows its possible

i dont care if the map half the size off LC if they can do this im a happy man

what are your guys take on this

That would be good, also in other gta when ur in a car say a banshee, there wud be banshees everywhere including parked up at the side of streets.

Yeah.. It's one of my favourite features in open world games. I read in a CV of a Rockstar North employee that he's programming crowd ai for GTA5. I'm pretty that there will be a lot of changes with the pedestrian ai.

Yeah actually tats a really important, point ots like the system to can only process 4-5 cars, its how can you stand out with ya acr when everyone else has it, very good point

and @ Milkman, i hope your right, that could just mean how the A.I. behaves rather than how many it can handle

They'll probably add that to the next game.

but half the size of LC? well thats a little too small.

There's like 4 peds tops and only a few cars on the highway in LA in the middle of the day. Should say it all.

We're not gonna see realistic amounts of people and cars until next gen...or maybe even next next gen suicidal.gif

Yeah its what i feared too, can anyone remember before the PS3 came out,

they showed a demo off how many ducks can be in the bath at one time and there where 100s, what a load of poop haha

I say Next gen

well now the best i hope is to improve it a little more than GTA 4, and maybe not make them disappear

it makes me wonder how Burnout Paradise did it, although saying that it was kinda scripted events it only happened never really seen it free roaming

lets hope Rockstar are good at atleast creating the illusion its happening

ahh, i dont really care about that, as long as we dont have to see the same vehicle im driving all over the city like in GTAIV (which was a little exaggerated) ill be fine.

It doesn't really bother me all that much, I think I remember reading in the GI article(?) that the number of peds and cars around LS will be less than GTA IV or something along them lines.

If it works like GTA IV crowds will probably form more when you're walking around. When you drive in GTA IV there are only a few peds, but when you walk around a lot of them spawn.

It should definitely form decent sized crowds if GTA IV could.

Why didn't i saw the same stuff in Star Junction then? Times Square is one of the most Crowded areas in the world, In GTA IV it looked like a Low Life Ghetto Area with fat cops guarding the place while eating donuts

I STILL LOVE IV.

This isn't IV, this is V. They've improved upon it, no matter what Zee seems to think.

I seriously don't understand R* how they do it, If the same graphics will be in the original game then f*ck me for doubting consoles and their limitations, I really want to know how R* does it.

Star Junction was reasonably well populated. You can't expect it to be like the real Times Square. The game would run like sh*t.

If you drive on the footpath at Star Junction it is possible to run over an unhealthy amount of peds. I don't see what the problem is, people want peds to interact with each other in a realistic manner, talking to each other and doing all kinds of stuff, but they also want a realistic amount of pedestrians? That is just insanity. Rockstar have already confirmed that pedestrians will be programmed to go about their daily lives rather than just aimlessly drive around, this is already so much more advanced than what we had before. I think it's really more a case of quality over quantity. The world of Los Santos in V will be so much more immersive and interesting than if Rockstar just shoved in as many peds as they could.

You don't mind if I quote this 6 months from now do you?

I think for once Zee has a point, But where not Robots were Humans and Humans make mistake often and then learn from them, We saw so many cut content in GTA IV (Like TWAT Cafes selling coffees and eatable things) I hope R* does not take their word back

I'd rather have a lot of peds and realistic traffic than a limited amount of peds that go about doing meaningless things.

Whether he turns out to be right or wrong, you're still going to claim he was wrong and troll him. I don't see the point.

I think that kind of programming on this Generation is just impossible, I remember when i first bought VC and then in game followed a pedestrian for hours and hours and then realized that they do not do anything at all, In IV the only thing changed i remember was the Cops arresting People and actually taking them to the nearest jail.

Lol Zee don't tell me I have to re-read all of the previews just to find you this quote. Obviously I would highly doubt that this is true to the extent they're claiming but I would assume that certain peds will be programmed to drive to random workplaces. They have already integrated the random events from RDR and there will be a lot more of the random characters to meet on the streets. Could just be another one of these comments from Rockstar that is hyped a bit more than is needed and we don't even notice it in the game. Like somebody else pointed out, the police pull over pedestrians breaking the law in IV and take them to Alderney State Correctional Facility. It's not that hard to believe that they could apply this same idea of AI to other pedestrians. So, for instance, you see a gardener go to somebodies house and they go into the garden. Even if there were only 10 different types of ped programmed to do this kind of thing it would add an extra dimension and direction to V.

Definatly all about realism, in san andreas i still play that sh*t when peds respawn i try to unluck the limit with that SA Limit adjuster no changes happen. I would like to see realistic amount of peds on the streets especially near popular places like hollywood road/vine wood road. i was disappointed that i never saw this in gta liberty city times square area

dont get me wrong im not crying for realism i like to have a borderline off both,

but having alot off peds in the same place will really make the game more vibrant

for Ped wise i think sleeping Dogs had the most ive seen, but vehicle wise you wouldn't see more than 4 cars

i know this is next Gen stuff, but the only one can suck the last drop of juice outta consoles is Rockstar

and as for repeating chars i think that helps memory for Last Gen and this Gen, cause if they put in 10 different type of Cars it will frameskip like a mo fo, or they would have to sacrifice something else to make room

I don't think this will change the way that all pedestrians act. I think it will be for a select few. They mentioned gardeners. I think we'll only be seeing this sort of AI in it's very early stages and only about about 2-5% of the AI will act in this way.

It seems like this sort of software would require a basic profile for every ped inc car type, address, job...

Perhaps they'll just make random turns into parking spots and we'll assume they're at work but I can't imagine it being any more advanced than that.

While I realize they are two COMPLETELY different games, those here should take a look at the SimCity development ongoing over at EA. If you want to speak in terms of individuality; they're working on a game where each person is completely and fully represented in a game where you build a city to a nice, large population. While I get that these are on two different gears and that GTA V will have a very different focus, I think that they could program a fair number of pedestrians to have individuality depending on the area where you're standing exactly. I'm not saying give everyone a name, but if you stand outside a house where people go home and just wait there all night, it'd make sense to see the same people going to work again in the morning. Sure you could go across the map and back to the house and find different people. But if the schedule runs on some sort of basis, they've at least shown their NPCs will indeed live lives, even if they only do so directly in the characters' surroundings.
