What are you most worried about in GTAV?

the 25 hours thing has been debunked. it was not quoted. No hour-rate of the story has been released, it was an error in translation or something - there's a topic by adrian (mod) about it.

I'm getting worried about the story length, depth and branching, but also the future of the game, more notably DLC. We wont get episodic content, but "smaller" DLC - i expect MP only dlc, and perhaps car pack and what have you for SP. It worries me R* will cave into the modern style of DLC whoring.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I feel sorry for R* when it comes to pleasing GTA fans, I really do, they're so unbelievably polarized. When IV came out, legions of people whined about it being too serious and that it "didn't feel like GTA" and that they wanted another SA-style game. Now I'm hearing a ton of people saying they want V to be serious like IV and tone down the humour we've seen in the trailers. I'm not sure it's even possible to find a happy medium because people are always gonna nitpick from what little they've seen thus far. You've gotta expect some cliches in there, I also predict that there'll be a mission where you have to beat up Tracy's boyfriend or bail Jimmy out of a problem but what R* does brilliantly is take existing cliches and make them entertaining, these days you simply can't make a movie or a game without there being some cliches because everything has pretty much already been done. The key is to use the same cliches but include enough new elements to make it feel fresh. Just look at IV, how many revenge stories have we seen in movies and games over the years? Guy arrives in city, uses various methods to track down man who betrayed him, kills man or lets him live, it's been done countless times but IV made it fresh.

I expect to see the same thing in V. The aging criminal gets drawn back into the game story has been done many times as well, but R* will make it entertaining and fresh like they do with everything else to the point where we probably won't even notice the cliches, or if we do, we'll embrace them. I don't expect the characters to be cardboard cutouts either, from the GI magazine they discuss how each character is double sided and that you love them one minute and hate them the next, Trevor included. They'll undoubtedly go into his tortured past and relationship with Michael which will make things even more interesting and Franklin will probably also have his demons. The crazy and eccentric supporting characters are also what make GTA GTA, they've had those from the very beginning and it wouldn't be the same if every single character had a method to their madness. What I'm looking forward to the most here is that the characters are actually willing criminals for once, in IV Niko was pretty much the reluctant killer from day one, so was Marston from RDR, so it'll be a nice change to see the ambitious Franklin, the bored Michael and the eager and psychotic Trevor actually embrace the life of crime instead of shy away from it. I want my characters to share my enthusiasm and revel in the chaos and illegality of their actions, Trevor embodies that the most so I imagine he'll be the most exciting character to play with but for those worried about the seriousness... the guy's a drug addict. I still remember how uncomfortably serious the cut scene with Vlad was in the car in IV when he snorts coke, so expect more moments like that in V with Trev. The fact remains that he's a lonely guy living in the middle of nowhere, I strongly doubt they'll ignore the darker aspects of his character in favour of some cheap toilet humour. There's also the fact that Michael has a family now, something else we've never experienced in GTA to that extent. Even if he isn't exactly super close with them it could introduce some potentially emotional moments if his life of crime ends up spilling into his family life which it most likely will, perhaps he and his wife will end up attempting to repair their relationship or we'll see a complex father-and-son relationship with him and Jimmy parallel the relationship with him and Franklin only for the roles to eventually be reversed after Franklin betrays him. There's endless opportunities here, I can't see R* doing away with all that character potential just to have a few one-dimensional nuts blowing things up.

Trailer 1 showed hardly anything, trailer 2 only showed us the lighthearted side, we have no idea what else they have in store. I'm especially interested in how they play the marriage angle, seeing as Audra/Amanda or whatever her name is constitutes the first important female character in GTA that isn't either a damsel in distress or a gun-toting psycho chick. She's the supporting character I'm interested in the most, sure Lamar might be a nice guy but since when are nice guys interesting? I wanna know why Michael's wife hates him and whether or not she'll change her mind, not how Lamar gets his money from the hood and how cool he is with that.

As for the heist thing... come on, you're worried about that? The most enjoyable mission in IV was the bank robbery and we haven't done nearly enough of those in GTA games, R* is doing the smart thing and expanding upon the things we loved the most from previous games as well as introducing new things that could revolutionize the genre. They're doing almost everything right so far, my worries are minimal at the moment and I have no reason not to have faith.

About the car physics. Why? Because they said it more feels like a racing game, and I know that they didn't mean simulator since there's MCLA creators in. whatsthat.gif

Hmmm nice bike

My biggest concern is the story being too short, too easy to get through, or simply too lackluster. That was after hearing Dan Houser saying that it'll be shorter due to not a lot of people apparently completing GTA IV.

Yes it has, but didn't R* say that the story was about the same length as Red Dead Redemption?

Me too! And I agree. GTA fans are very hard to please because the nature of the game. It's such a free experience and so many people get something different from it that it's hard to find middle ground. Some people like it arcadey, others more simulator like. Some like it more serious and others more campy. That's just the tip of the iceberg too. But for me, they've never ceased to satisfy as a whole. Sure, I wish some things were in games or done better and the like but ever since I started at GTA2, it's been great game after great game. Each one deserving of 4 or 5 stars honestly. Even if some of my GTAV worries happen, I doubt they could dissatisfy me with this game. They never have before, so I really have no need to doubt them to be honest.

Ultimately, if R* just sit on the fence and don't make it either dark or light hearted, it'll ultimately please neither side and it'll create a shallow experience.

Wetpartofthed*ck: I would read your post but its a giant wall of text. Add some more paragraph breaks or I ain't reading it.

You sir, hit the nail on the head. Could not have said it better myself.

There is a simple solution for those who aren't happy with GTA V: don't play the bloody thing! Rockstar will make millions off the copies they sell to the people who aren't whiny losers who pick over every little detail in the game.

Cheers!

I am just worried about the multiplayer part of the game being legit. I am hoping the frag stick and turbo controller users won't dictate the competitive mp modes. I hope rockstar somehow decrease the bullet dmg per second and make it so no modded controller can increase firerate on the weapons. GTA IV's multiplayer was ruined by these type of players and the main ppl who stuck around and continued to play it ended up buying a modded controller just to compete. Rockstar made a bit of progress when they put out the TBOGT DLC cause frags and turbos was less effective on there with some of the newer weapons but the modded controllers still was a disadvantage to have. This is why most of the frag and turbo users continued on playing the regular GTA IV multiplayer. Its kinda sad cause ppl should take the time to learn how to become skilled without cheating the game.

I don't hear anyone complaining that v won't be serious enough, in fact I hear people shinning it won't be enough like San Andreas hence a lack of customization

The thing is we want more and more, what to sacrifice gameplay or graphics? Why do I have to choose daddy? I want it all!

Well here's a little life lesson for you son... you can't have it all.

When someone creates a game that satisfies everyone on this planet and has no criticisms at all, let me know.

The Grand Theft Auto series has done exceptionally well to receive such high ratings from so many customers, which makes it one of the best games going around. Then there are those in the minority who always have something to pick at. I say let 'em, not my problem, not Rockstar's problem.

Cheers!

3. I am worried the Game will be short because nowadays, game companies are making games shorter to focus on multiplayer. I know this is Rockstar I'm talking about, but I really want the game to be long. Like 50 hours long. No, mabye 40 hours

The game will be very long I believe. Yes the mainstory will be like 25 hours. But you don't have to play the main story missions constantly anymore. There will be a lot of side missions they said.

With the other GTAs I played the mainstory one after the other because I wanted to unlock all the island as soon as possible. Well that's not the case anymore so I will focus more on the side missions and do the story at my own pase. This game will be in my ps3 for a looooong time.

What I worried about is the possibility that R* listened to the whiny minority and screwed ip the driving physics. They were the best part of IV to me and I cringe at the possibility of them regressing back to SA's physics.

The Biggest worry for me is what DLC content is going to be, I hope not important features that are sold off for more than you pay for the game. like pointless mp items that you unlock eventually anyway, I hate this DLC culture.

However, DLC's by rockstar have mostly been filled with content and/or additives to the story... as long as the DLC's follow the same make up as RDR, or story addons such as TBOGT and TLAD, then I'll be happy.

If I see Rockstar slip more and more into DLC hell I will be very Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif retarded in the brain from having to suffer it.

RIP Rockstar Games

Unfortunately I hate to be the one to let you down, but R* will no longer be doing large DLC story content, you can look that up for confirmation and you'll see it has already been discussed on this forum as well. Anything they add on for this game will likely be small stuff here and there for multiplayer, don't expect anything like Undead Nightmare or EFLC, sadly.
