A Nusscream
Hi guys I'm a PC gaming noob and I bought a gfx card last night (geforce gtx 660 sc), when it arrived I tried to install it in my PC it wouldnt fit. It seemed to be too long to be able to in the slot (case size?) but also my wireless card is right above it so it wouldn't even fit outside the case. Is this a normal problem? My motherboards not exactly ancient (asus P8Z77-M) I thought the manufacturers might have considered this or am I being daft? Really I'm asking are some motherboards limited to the size of gfx card can they take, by size, and is this the case in my instance? Cheers. Narcis_speed6
The motherboard you posted seems to have 2 PCIe slots, so it doesn't fit in any of them?
yoječ
It should fit in either of the longest slots (PCIe 16x).
Narcis_speed6
Maybe you forgot to remove one of these things (where the video card is located)
A Nusscream
You're all right nice one guys. I presumed it had to go in the other slot as it had "gpu boost" written by it. It looks like it would fit perfectly in the other slot and everything would align perfectly with the back of the unit apart from one problem. There's a bit of metal in the way! It looks like I could bend the metal so it would fit or I could unscrew it. Is this dangerous? Would it void the warranty? Thanks, you guys are being really helpful. yoječ
Seems like you forgot to remove one of these things from the computer case: At least that looks like it from this angle.
A Nusscream
It was actually the black flap just above where you circled yojo, I just needed to remove it. The cards fit perfectly now. Cheers again guys.
Stinky12
The video card is not running at full speed as the black PCIe slot is only design to run at x4 mode (notice the pic, half of the gold contacts on black PCIe slot is missing). Remove card from black PCIe slot and install it to the blue so that it runs at full x16 mode. The wifi card can be remove and plugged into the black PCIe slot as PCIe slots are universal with other PCIe cards. A PCIe x16 slot allows PCIe cards of its own size and smaller. Remember to physically unplug the power cord, and ground yourself before handling computer components. And while the case is open, use a dust blower or brush to clean out the dust that's clogging the CPU fan.
A Nusscream
Thanks Stinky, it seems to be working pretty well at the moment in the slot it's in. Seems like its going to be a pain switching things around so I'll do it at weekend when I've got more time. What sort of differences will I notice? yoječ
5-10%. Not much, but still.
A Nusscream
You guys are the best. One more (possibly stupid) question. When I'm switching the cards around will I have to reinstall the drivers or will they be good to go?
sivispacem
Shouldn't pose an issue at all, so good to go. Narcis_speed6
Before switching the card slot you should also consider cleaning it.
