It seems to be pushing the PS3 and 360 to the highest limit. to the limit, but not quite to the limit, at least according to what Dan Houser said in the IGN interview where he said basically stated that there is plenty enough power left in the current gen consoles and that R*'s vision and desire for V was not restricted at all by the current gen consoles. to me this is great news b/c several times I have thought, "I hope my imagination isn't exceeding the limits of current gen consoles". LOL YEAH RIGHT. Sorry for the caps, but Dan Houser totally knows he's talking BS there. He only says that to calm down people, he knows as much as most of the people that the current consoles are totally outdated, the worst being the REALLY limited amount of RAM and the amazingly crappy GPU's. Honestly, GTA5 will push the most out of it, there won't be anything else anymore this generation, it's over. You can't keep programming games for crappy hardware when every office computer has more power, it's the honest truth. I mean, just compare the current console games with the ones on PC, unless it's a crappy port they look and run about 10000 times better, and that on 2-3 year old PC Hardware. It was even mentioned in some previews already that the demo they ran wasn't running at a "great" framerate, and even though they keep mentioning it was only a "demo" we all know in the end the performance will be about equal to the one in GTA 4, which is totally fine for me and most of the people, but it'll not be amazing. R* will definitely do everything they can to make the game as good as possible, and it will be great I'm sure of that, but definitely will be reach the limit of what can be done on current consoles. Edit: I also apologize if I burst some bubbles here, but it just annoys me when developers try to make bad things look good, some statements are just really ridiculous. Durden Posted November 20, 2012 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I know I might kick myself later for saying this, but I hope that on the next generation of consoles GTA still uses the RAGE engine, just improved. I don't want GTAVI to be dull, boring, featureless like IV was. If they keep the engine intact, then no doubt GTAVI on next-gen consoles will a definate improvement from V. They should upgrade their engine when the time is right -- when the technology is so amazing, so photorealistic, that it would be their last new engine for a while. I'm thinking R* should change it around the time the Playstation 5 releases, so by then they won't have to make a new engine again for quite a while. However, I think that it's quite inevitble that R* will make a new engine for next gen consoles, which kind of dissapoints me. However, they do a smart move and make RDR 2 or Bully 2 their first next-gen game for example, then when GTAVI releases, they will have had experience with that other game with a smaller audience so that the blowback is less severe. There is no reason they should make a new one, the current is fine. I wouldn't worry too much. And IV wasn't sh*t. San Andreas set your standards too high. Just like san andreas for the ps2 YES. San Andreas was the pinnacle of technical achievement on the PS2(some may argue for Shadow of the Colossus). The cycle sucks Nah, not really.. the jump from PS2/Xbox to PS3/360 was huge.. but the next step (PS3/360 to PS4/Xbox) won't be that huge again. Shouldn't be really a problem to port the old engines for the next generation. But I really don't know about the technology behind that much. Also the next GTA won't definitely be the first next-gen game from R*. This. The transition to PS4/720 won't be nearly as great. R* didn't simply have to make a new game engine for this gen... they needed a proprietary engine since EA owns the rights to Renderware. I'm not a programmer, but I suspect the transition from RAGE to RAGE 2.0 won't be as traumatic as the transition from Renderware to RAGE, which was made completely from scratch. OT: There was a leak posted on this forum some time back by a "former R* employee" who interestingly turned out to predict a lot of accurate info about V, including the protagonist's names. The same user posted R*'s supposed development pipeline, which suggested that Agent and Bully 2 will be coming to PS3 and/or 360. This has most likely changed by now (I believe the leak said MP3 would be out 2009, Agent would be out 2010, and GTA V would be out by 2011). However, there were no plan for another GTA or Red Dead this gen, so unless Agent or Bully 2 drop in 2014, V could easily be R* last current gen game. I doubt it though.
