Mefris
Oh and the occasional solar eclipse would be nice, but I highly doubt that will ever happen A solar eclipse...?That's way too much to ask for. in fact for my taste nights in RDR wasn't dark enough! Yes,they could have made it a little bit darker. The level of light we get in a RDR night stays practically the same regardless of the position of the moon and that is very unrealistic.I can understand why they choose to do it this way because we didn't have a compact light source we could carry with us (imagine an encounter with a cougar in Tall Trees at night without a torch).Still, riding along through Tall Trees at night and stumbling into Big Foot would have been an awesome experience. In V I can't think of an excuse for them not to make the night darker. We have headlights on our cars and they could give us a flashlight for when we are on foot.Agh...walking through the forest in V with just a flashlight would be so awesome.Come to think of it,they wouldn't really have to give us flashlights since we're going to have smartphones(Most of them have a flashlight app IRL). Go to Hollywood. You'll be lucky to count 1 star. Go to Transilvania. You'll be lucky if you see anything except a bear's digestive system.

killahmatic
i would never want it to look like the photo in the original post, though it would be cool if light pollution effected how many stars you could see in the city compared to the desert/mountain. customkingpimp
the reason you could not see squat in GTA IV was light polution, In liberty city, how many stars do you think they really see? I live in a city of 44k people and I can barely see any stars.
Magic_Al
This would not be hard to do. Simply, the sky is a sphere and the whole thing rotates together, sun, moon and stars. Technically the sun and moon should change relative positions each day but I'd be OK if they didn't. Just getting the whole sky to rise and set together would be a massive improvement in realism. Missed opportunity in Red Dead Redemption I think, but GTAV should have some places outside the city where it would be equally cool to do this right. Chukkles
Im not trolling. I want a realistic night sky! In Gta IV, the night sky sucked balls. The RDR had a better night sky, but it was in complete darkness yet you couldn't see the Milky Way. I want to go out at night on Gta V and see the Milky Way, R* need to step up and make a better night sky. I want it looking like this: RDR had a great sky, you couldn't see the milky way because it's not there, though Pedobear is and i'm sure many other odd pictures you can find in the stars. I have seen pedobear with my own eye's as I stood on a cliffside in mexico looking at the stars, I turned away form him and haven't found him again, he's massive though you just have to look hard. Death2Drugs
Yes, I demand a better night sky. RDR was a pretty good night sky. Before IV the sky was virtually dead. No stars except a few meant to represent the Big Dipper. One must consider that in a big city, you can barely see any stars at all, while in the desert/countryside, you can see a lot of starts because there are no city lights. Rockstar needs to implement this.

Vanilla Shake
Well, you were able to see a couple stars at night in GTA IV, which is weird because in real life you can't see one damn star at night in NYC. I'm thinking they'll balance it out. Very small amount of stars at night when within the LS city limits, a bit more stars as you venture out into the countryside a little (but still reduced when not too far outside of the city), and then the RDR amount when you're in the desert/on top of Mt. Chiliad and at the points of the map that are farthest from the city. If they did that, I'll be a happy camper. If not, I'll live. I also hope there's a cheat to make the clock stay at a certain time, so I can play one night while it's just dark in the game. That's something I wish they had in IV 'cause I thought LC looked even better all lit up at night. TC718 / <629 / CF5

I can't believe that it would be difficult to include a few different night sky textures on the bowl of the virtual sky, that can be changed out or blended so that more stars show up out in the countryside. And a rare shooting star might be nice. And since GTA / RDR skies are "re-imagined" versions of the real sky, with sun / moon time cycles and locations that have little to do with reality, I would like to see some real constellations which might be different on different nights, nothing to do with actual or game seasons (probably no game seasons anyway, which is fine with me). Since GTA/RDR does have sun and moon rising in the east and setting in the west, they could more or less keep the constellations at their real world latitudes from south horizon to north horizon, relative to where they are from So Cal. However, I don't think we will see the Magellanic clouds (see the photo in the OP) from Los Santos EDIT: and the Milky should be just barely visible, arching across the sky, in the countryside. EDIT: In the same way that some reviewers wrote about RDR, that they just liked to sit and watch the sunset and contemplate, I hope that the night environment and sky and night sounds in GTAV will equally induce a sense of peacefulness and contemplation. That's almost a minigame value in itself -- an atmospheric screen saver, a piece of art, a bit of redeeming social value for GTAV to claim Edited November 21, 2012 by saintsrow

That would mean you'll be able to see the stars a lot more clearly and they'll be a lot brighter. If you go camping once in a while then you'll see the difference. Red Dead Redemption took place in the late 1910s, in the American West. Remember that there is only one true urban area, and that is Blackwater, where there is electricity and street lamps, and some major cities in the world did have electricity centers, etc, but obviously it doesn't compare today. Nonetheless, I hope that they make it realistic. Inside the city areas you should barely see any stars, while if you go into the countryside and desert, where there is a lot less noise pollution as you pointed out, you should see a lot of stars, like this. Are you f*cking kidding me. You can't seriously think that if you're in the desert at night time it looks like a scene from The Neverending Story... you realise all these photos of night skies you guys are finding, were taken specifically for that "starry night sky" effect. In reality, it doesn't look like that. Only with a hot shot SLR camera with a very long exposure to allow so much light to be captured in the photo. Real life desert at night is more like this: http://www.deviantart.com/download/2828873...bin-d4of99s.jpg Sure the stars are definitely brighter, but it doesn't look like Star Wars out there you know. Btw, have a think about these references I've made. The Neverending Story... Star Wars... are both fantasy films. What genre game is Skyrim again? Oh what? that's right.... boom. But GTA is not a fantasy game so it will be more along the lines of realism.

Noise pollution is caused by traffic, planes trains etc. Light pollution is what you're talking about. Also do your research, electricity had begun to be used in the 1800s. Hell coca cola has been going since the 1880s. Trains too. I don't expect to see too much improvement in the sky to be honest. One thing that annoyed me with RDR is if you look at the sky, then quickly to the ground, the entire ground world was illuminated, there was a strange lighting effect that brightened the screen when you looked up, and darkened it when you looked back down. I hope that's gone (unless you look at the sun) The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry
neo92boi
Night Sky in IV was pretty good actually. Here in NYC even on a clear night the most you can see is Polaris, the little and big dipper, and Orions belt. Aside from that its just a cold dark blue especially in the winter. And you could forget it with partly cloudy or overcast.
