GTA V PC Version Petition

Pyrrhic

Recommended Posts

What a waste. R* doesn't care.

I am gonna laugh as well when they announce a PC port, and the people saying "SEE, I TOLD YA THEY WOULD LISTEN TO US!"

Morons.

You know this petition is more than confirming a PC release? Most of us know that its comming, but we just want some attention from R*

Tough I doubt they say anything.

But I don't understand why?

If PC had the same large fan base as XBOX and PS3, I would understand why people would be frustrated. But, the case is that at the moment, PC isn't a huge fan base.

PC will get attention, you just have to wait a tad longer sadly.

So let me get this straight, you can't understand why pc users are frustrated at the possibility there will be no pc version yet if it was either console you would ? What makes it okay for console users to get frustrated and not pc users ?

Both consoles will always have a larger fan base with its simplicity and affordability. But don't let this fool you, the pc still has a large user base. Just look at the 10 million active wow accounts (i know terrible game) over 30 million registered steam accounts plenty of pc exclusives coming out each year.

Personally I don't think a petition will make any difference, I'm confident there will be a PC version a few months to a year after console, I just think pc users are frustrated with the choice of words used by Rockstar, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first time they have actually said that a PC version is only up for consideration ?

Rather than call people morons why don't you just ignore the thread if it really annoys you that much that some pc users are a tad worried.

Morons was more directed to people like the bloke who posted about R* paying off people. That is the type of people I hate in all of this.

But, do PC fans understand that not only will there be a game for them? Why can't they just wait?

Don't look at them as pc fans, instead look at them as GTA fans just like you and I, the GTA series is massive and one of the best in the gaming industry, I guess some people feel its a little unfair they must wait close to a year just to join in on the fun after its already been released.

Not every pc user has a console and the majority certainly won't buy one just for one game, the world is full of inpatient people, that said I can understand their frustration, I mean at the end of the day were all fans of GTA and we all can't wait to get our hands on it right ?

Rockstar always releases the pc version late, I think this is expected by everyone now, but you can't blame people for hoping Rockstar would finally prioritise all 3 platforms as equal, yes the pc is smaller and there is issue of piracy etc but the fact remains pc is still profitable and were fans of the game just as much as you guys. Surely you can understand the frustration some people have ?

I didn't see the post you directed the moron insult to, I tend to skip most of those type of posts. It's hard with the lack of moderation to skip all though.

I really don't get all this console vs pc crap to be honest. Who cares what platform One chooses to game on? Were all fans of the same game here.

I my self have even stopped buying from retail and now get most of my pc games from Steam which dominates a very large part of the pc market.

forgive my ignorance, because i'm a console gamer, but is't steam basically a rental service? IOW, you never actually own the game, your basically renting a licence to play it. what happens if you close your account? do you get to keep the games that you bought? do you get refunded? how does it work? dontgetit.gif

also, what if you internet go down and you can't access your games? i guess i just don't like the idea of not owing something i paid for. confused.gif

A rental service would imply you pay for the game and then have a limited time to play, with steam once you pay for the game you can play any time any place so long as you log into your account.

You can't close your account, if you uninstall steam from your pc All of your games will be there when ever you install steam again. Although you must obviously re-download your games.

As already mentioned you can play in offline mode with steam, but you still have to actually run steam It's self to launch any game. It's not a problem though in my opinion as steam removes the need to insert the disc when ever you want to play.

Although likely to never happen due to its dominance of the pc market, should steam ever close or go out of business they have already stated they would release a patch allowing you to play your games without steam. How that would work I have no idea but steam is one of the few companies I trust. They are pc gamers them selves and really do have the pc community's best interests in mind, not to mention their Christmas sales are great with even the newest of games having price cuts. biggrin.gif

icon14.gif thanks for the explanation. so basically you have to sign into steam to sign out. wink.gif it's also nice to know if anything ever happens to the company your still guaranteed the games you paid for.

thanks for the link, but i was looking for more of a country to country breakdown of sales of all platforms. when i google "gta 4 sold 750,000 pc copies in 1 month alone" i get nothing. when i google "gta 4 sold more than 70,000 retail copies in india alone" i get this forum. confused.gif

just to be clear, i'm not saying it's false, i just wanted to compare the stats and see where those numbers came from.

THIS^ STEAM sales are not counted, And that VG website is BS, Don't trust that sh*t.

Just a couple of quotes.

"Valve's site, Steam, has 30 million customers downloading PC games and add-ons. Only Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony have larger footprints in the gamer community. A milestone was reached last year when unit sales of PC games via download outstripped sales of boxed games in stores for the first time, according to research firm NPD Group"

"The 250-person company releases no financials but, according to Newell, is "tremendously profitable." Ed Barton, a games analyst at IHS Screen Digest, estimates that Valve's revenue in 2010 was in the "high hundreds of millions of dollars." (A 2005 FORBES story on Valve had the company grossing $70 million with a fat $55 million in operating profit"

http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2011/0228/tec...ine-mayhem.html

Add to this with GAME the UK's biggest gaming retail company going into administration earlier this year and.blaming it on digital sales out selling retail.

Try learning to read, it backs up the steam argument. People always try to compare console to pc sales, yet its never accurate with steam being one of if not the biggest distributor for pc and never releasing its sales statistics.

According to vgchartz GTA IV sold 0.71 million copies on PC compared to 9.92 million copies on XBox 360 and 9.43 million copies on Playstation 3. As we know, digital sales are almost never included but they are since a certain time now bigger than the retail sales. GTA IV was released more than four and a half years ago for consoles and four years ago for PC at a time when selling PC games digitally wasn't anywhere as popular as it's today. Max Payne 3 sold according to vgchartz about 1.12 million copies on XBox 360, 1.08 million copies on Playstation 3 but only 0.21 million copies on PC. And again digital sales aren't included in these numbers. I believe that Max Payne 3 sold a lot more copies digitally with Steam than with the retailers because the game was for many weeks after the release on PC one of the best-selling games on Steam and I heard it still sells well! If we consider that Steam has more than 30 million customers/users and Max Payne 3 was at the first place for a few weeks after the release then it's even possible that the game sold more copies on PC than on PS3 or X360 or even both together! We don't exactly know since Valve never ever publishs any data regarding the digital sales. In any case the PC platform is very profitable.

I still got no clue why Rockstar don't release PC together with Xbox360 and PS3, of course u can say the sales will be lower if you sell the game 7 months later... if they just release it on the same day, GTA V will probably sell 2m copies on PC.

If skyrim can sell many millions on pc within 3 months than gta v pc can sell upto 7 million.

Well, to answer the question of why the game would be delayed for PC, we would have to know how Rockstar Games exactly developes the game for PC. Will it be a port from the consoles or is it indeed seperatly developed? If it's a port then the answer is simple because Rockstar would have to finish the development of the game for the consoles or at least being close to finish the development on the consoles to finally start porting it to the PC platform. If the game is seperatly developed then it would most likely mean the game is developed simulatenously for each platform. We know that GTA V is seperatly developed for Playstation 3 and XBox 360 which makes the probability that the game is developed seperatly for PC as well a lot higher. If the game isn't going to be a port on PC then the release will be most likely sooner. I think that one problem is that Grand Theft Auto is a very big title and the possibility that Rockstar Games has a NDA with Microsoft and Sony which says that Rockstar isn't allowed to talk about the PC version isn't that low, at least this is not absurd. It's possible that Rockstar isn't allowed to talk about the PC version until the release of GTA V on the consoles. Who knows. But that doesn't mean that they would have to delay the game for the PC platform even more to promote it a bit longer for PC. It's still the same game just for another platform. I think that GTA V is going to be released for PC between one and three months after the consoles version, not much later.

If R* does react to this by releasing the PC version with the consoles, it'll delay all releases. Unless they actually have been working on the PC version in secret. As a PC gamer I can understand the frustration, but I don't think a petition was the best idea. Consoles are very cheap. I picked up a 160GB Fat PS3 for under $200 solely for GTA about a week ago.

I think a lot of people are poking at a peaceful and hard working bee-hive here.

Man if i had posted source for gta v selling that much in india you should never be on this thread again ok?

is that suppose to be a question? if so i'm not sure how to answer it. plus, i thought we were talking about GTA IV?

i'll just assume you have no source. yawn.gif

sorry Yeah gta 4 within 5 months it sold 50,000 copies.do you leave this thread if i post the source?

GTA IV was a bad, really bad port. One of the worst PC games ever made. They deserve the low sales for PC in this case.

If they made a high quality game for PC, then there will be much more sales.

Just logic.

In the last 14 months, 11 million units of GTA were sold according to Take-Two's numbers given earlier this week. I'd like to think a lot of that was contributed by GTAIV PC sales, especially with all the attention mods have given the game. So sssh everyone with pointing out NPD numbers because while Steam doesn't report numbers, statistically more PC games are being sold now on Steam than in physical retail. A large chunk of Rockstar's income over the past year was made up of digital sales, and I believe GTAIV PC was a large contributor.

Anyway, back to the petition: I still don't understand what the goal is here. I guess it was just very motivating for a lot of people to feel a part of something where there was a goal (which was to reach a number). They forgot what the original intent was here which is to encourage Rockstar to release a PC version. Rockstar is certainly not going to change their plans on this, which is, to release a PC version.... (meaning, it's already going to happen) whatsthat.gif

I saw a comment today someone made to Vice City's anniversary trailer, which was: "Looks really good, reminds me of Ballad of Gay Tony." whatsthat.gif

... that just sort of made me believe more that was is going on here is this is being pushed, largely (although not entirely) by young people who don't know or understand the history of GTA and PC releases which is that it always happens, just never on same day as console release. I guess they have this belief that Rockstar doesn't care for PC releases because they didn't do one for Red Dead...

But honestly, just do a Google search and you'll realize that all of this is for nothing because a PC version is coming like it always has for major epic GTA releases.

The goal is to get a response from R*. As I've said countless times, the petition will be a success even if R* only asks us to hang tight.

And Adriaan, a bit off-topic... but your moderating sucks. icon13.gif

Well, actually I could go to the next electronic store and buy a PS3 or X360. I'm a student and I don't have much money but I could go and buy a console but I don't want to buy one. I play games on PC since more than four years now and I prefer it over any console. I prefer to play gamer with mouse and keyboard and I can't stand framerate issues so PC is the platform to go for me. I like it to change all possible settings of the game to my like, be it the graphic-settings, the vehicle density, draw-distance, etc. I have my reasons why I don't go to the next store to purchase a console and I don't think that this will be different anytime soon. And at all now I am not going to buy a console at the end of the lifecycle since Playstation Orbis and XBox Durango aren't far away. In any case I don't think that I will buy a console.

Yeah, most people who believe that GTA V isn't going to be released for PC because Red Dead Redemption wasn't released for PC are most likely not aware that RDR was developed by Rockstar San Diego and Midnight Club II was their last game ever that was released for the PC platform and that nine years ago.

If your goal is to get a response, then you're not gonna get one, in order to muster up some attention from R* you're gonna need more then 100k, more like 1m...

@Carl CJ Johnsons Brother Brian

I believe it may not because RDR didn't get a PC version because of development costs...

Both games are published by the same company and publishers pay for development...

I don't think Rockstar is going to change their business plans regarding planned announcements over a small petition that was most likely largely contributed by people who won't even buy the game (as, statically, more fans from nations with high piracy levels visit fan sites etc. nowadays).

As to the moderating thing, what is the issue here?
