Anabolic Posted November 20, 2012 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I'm kinda surprised there's no thrill over the dune buggies since there's one in the trailer. At about a little over 1200 pounds and with over 400 hp, they just might be one of the fastest cars in the game. We got a ride on one last spring near the Mexican border. This bad boy had 430 horsepower measured from the back wheels... I've driven an Audi R8, a souped-up Porsche 911 Turbo, and let me tell you, they didn't come even close to this buggy! Not only did it BLAST its way through the dunes like no tomorrow, it also broke pretty much all the laws of physics with the help of its super-wide wheel base. I was almost crapping my pants when the driver drove the buggy on a huge wall of sand that would have flipped a normal car or an ATV over in 0.1 seconds. This is kinda close to a real thing (custom built, reinforced chassis...) but that one wouldn't be too fast with those tires – the threads are not suitable for dunes. These things are geared more for acceleration than high speed, that's not to say it will be slow flat out. The dune buggy was my favorite off road vehicle in SA, can't wait to drive it in V. Yeah....That's why the rest of the world is just soooo far ahead of The U.S. in anything, huh? OT: I'm very excited about the dune buggies. I have two(in real life), one is what's called a rail, basically, it's just a chopped-down VW with a 1700 dual port. The other is a street-legal buggy with fiberglass body, it's a single port with a 1600 motor in it. We run'em a lot here where I live. Old VW's are the greatest vehicles ever made, IMO. But we use mud tires(I'm not in the desert) on the back, and tires like what's on the front of a tractor on the front. Weekends are a blast!
