AuSsIeThUnDeR36
Will it be IV style in black and white or like San Andreas with colour? I think it should go back to the old school and show it in nice colour since it's returning to San Andreas where everything is sunny and cheerful. It would also help distinguish where the desert areas etc are

ThisIsHorosho
it will most likely be colored, since yes like you said we've got deserts and also countrysides, how else will we be able to distinguish between the areas if they'll all be greyed out? Skyline_Mad
Yea it should be full of colour like San Andreas, B/W was kinda boring, but it suited LCs dark style. I don't think a Google Map's look will be that good to be honest, it needs to be simple and colourful, not realistic and detailed, although if they go that route, i'd rather it be a 3D map like Midnight Club LA. Magic_Al
Rockstar seems to prefer a minimalist, monochrome UI since GTAIV and I think it's a nice contrast with the game world. Since a "Google Earth" type view has been mentioned when switching characters, maybe there could also be a satellite view on the map screen. That might be too spoiler-y though. Wayne Daniels
Good topic! I hated the black and white IV map, definitely would welcome the colour map back. I dont think I would like it 3d though, having it flat I find it easy to pin point an exact location, I would just go: right this place is next to the half circle road 2 streets down from the highway or something like that. Mefris
The color is only skin deep.If you take it away you can see that deep down inside we are all...morons
killahmatic
i think its time to take it to the next level and have a google maps-type view. Doesnt really matter to me though, the map is helpful no matter what they do with it.

RussianFreak
They've already noted that you zoom out from street view to bird's eye view seamlessly to access the map, MCLA style. It would only make sense if the map was not only colored but also had topographical features on it in one way or another.
Raynos
google map hd hmm perfect answer. I think this would work well, sorta like a real-time top down view of the map, would be sweet!
Matty
GTA V's map will no doubt be monochromatic in terms of colour scheme as has been the case since GTA IV. The fact that there is varying terrain will not necessarily mean that there will be different colours for different terrain types. Look at Red Dead Redemption's map for example - which has quite a variance in terms of its landscape and its map is the same light-brown colour all over. The older style maps with different colours representing different terrains were pretty much scrapped when the GTA III era came to an end and the monochromatic style makes the map look more modern in appearance, in my opinion, and there is no need to put put so much detail into a map when the player is only going to really be looking at it for very brief periods - I mean, it's not like a player will spend two hours just looking at the map and doing nothing else. The recent minimalist approach with video game maps isn't unique to Rockstar's games either. With that being said, a satellite style map would be pretty cool because of the immense detail that will be present in the game - even when you are high above the ground. CryptReaperDorian
I hope that GTA V will have a map full of color. The black and white map only made sense for GTA IV because everything is made out of cement in that game.

That sort of reminds me of Driver San Francisco when it came to switching cars. I wouldn't totally mind if switching protags was like that. Kjax39
Color.....black and white was boring I think they'll go with color though because there is much more sh*t other than just concrete like in IV
acmilano
Google Earth would be good, especially becouse we got mountains and deserts this times.
killahmatic
It would be nice to have a minute of relief at times to get a chance to escape or find a better location for the shootout.
