Multiplayer - What is so special about it?

The way rockstar talked about Multiplayer it REALLY seemd they wanted to revolutionize the way open world multiplayer game worlds work. I have been skeptic about this but I still have my hopes. Here are some of my ideas

-Cops and robbers: If any of you played GTA:SA MP mod there was a server called crazybobs and there were TONS of jobs for you to choose and houses. You could fish, buy life insurance, lotto, buy cars, find mafia money, be a hitman, taxi and so on. I liked the way this played and it would been much better if it was done official by rockstar.

-Hunt or be hunted: I have a feeling a mode like this will be implemented. My idea for this is that one team is hunting the other team, while they try to escape and hide from them. The minimap wont show where they are hiding but ingame you can find clues to where they have been and was for 5min ago. It will make for some nervepiring situations

-RPG Mode: The last thing I think rockstar will implement is RPG mode. You can make many characters and you rank up with them. In free roam there are loads of activitis for you to do and you can also join TDM and other standard game modes for fun. The special thing about this is that it will feel more like pogressing your own character and the further you rank, the better weapons and clothes you get. Kinda like wow (BUT dont compare it to wow, just an example)

What do you guys think? Please if you think this is terrible then explain why smile.gif

Killing is better with friends.

Sorry, got the title a bit wrong.

But rockstar stated they wanted to revolutionize multiplayer the same way they revolutionize the open world genre with GTA III so they gotta have something big up their sleves.

I think they will focus less on making different game modes (although they do sound fun), and more on the free roam aspect. My guess is that they want to copy that freedom you have in GTA SP to GTA MP. I don't know if you've played free roam in GTA IV MP, but it just wasn't the same as the free roam in GTA IV SP.

I think they will try to make the free roam in MP as much as it is in SP. It should feel like you are playing SP free roam, only there happen to be 31 (hopefully, maybe less) other humans like you to interact with. You might meet them, you might not. You can play poker with them in casinos, play golf with them, kill them, maybe even play some co-op missions with them. Kind of how RDR MP worked. Remember that? I'm sure that was a "test" for R*, and now they want to try it in GTA V.

My wishlist for the multiplayer-section of the game;

Grand Theft Auto: The players start at the same area, and after 30 seconds(?) everyone will find out which certain vehicle needs to be found, stolen and delivered to a certain location. (For example, a blue car, a bus, a sedan, a Faggio, or a school bus) The first player to deliver a vehicle that fits the description wins. The time it takes to deliver the vehicle, and the state it's in when delivered affects the size of the reward. To make it even more interesting: Once a player has located a vehicle that fits the description he will be shown on the minimap.

Dogfighting with airplanes high up in the air. Could be either free-for-all or team deathmatch.

.

: All the players are playing as the police except for one randomly selected player who gets to be the criminal. The goal is for the criminal to fulfill one of three objectives; Get away a certain distance from the police, be the last man standing, or survive until the time runs out.

: This could be made a multiplayer game by either racing on pre-destined tracks, or by adding some sort of global scoreboard. Although this would be fun for singleplayer too.

Zombie Survival: There could be several ways to implement this; Add objectives that needs to be fulfilled in an open world and work cooperatively to achieve said objectives, or make the players defend a certain area/building/point and have the zombies come at the players in waves, or simply let the players roam freely.

Cooperative vigilante missions: Just like you would in the previous games, but with support for more players. (2-4 players)

Free-roam racing: Race from point A to point B as fast as possible. There are no pre-destined tracks or checkpoints that you have to follow. The world is fully open, and it's up to you to figure out the fastest and most effective way to get there before your opponents. Some of you may be familiar with this from Midnight Club: Dub Edition for example.

Air Combat, i.e. dogfighting.

Yes, I would also like it to be like this. And it would be awsome if not everyone was spawning with weapons and you had to work for them.

It would be cool traveling with people out in the while and suddenly have a murder on your tail because he had worked for his weapons, not just spawning with M4A1 or something.

The Scottish Guy

I love the freeroam mod, when it's not filled with dickless hackers that is.

Those motherf*ckers need to be pulled apart, limb by limb.

I'm hoping that there will be racing modes, with some of them being quite creative.

Maybe a foot race where you are an athlete...with a GUN!

Okay, not something like that, but something quite clever.

What I reckon they will do is take all the unpopular modes from 4 and put them into free mode, with a different spin of course. There will be four or five things going on in the free mode map at one time where players can earn money, and I think money will be GTA's XP.

I think they want to get rid of the line between multiplayer and singleplayer, to make the experience very similar. Of course, the story and characters will be singleplayer aspects, but free roaming just isn't the same on your own. Like in Just Cause 2. The world is great. But eventually you really want some other humans to play with. GTA SA had this with co-op free roam. I hope V will have this with 32 players.

If you've read the previews from IGN and other sites, you might have noticed that they talked about how the character switch system looked. It is something like this:

Trevor | Franklin

------------------------------

Michael | Empty spot

The people who saw the demo thought the empty spot might be multiplayer. My idea is this: GTA V will not have three, but four characters. Three characters are for the singleplayer, and you have one character (that you can fully customize) for multiplayer. R* wants to make MP feel important. By putting your MP character together with the three SP characters, they do just that. Switching to MP will feel natural. First you want to free roam alone in SP with Michael. Then with Trevor. Then you want to free roam in MP with the character you made yourself. What's different between switching from a SP character to another SP character or from a SP character to your MP character?

I guess leveling up would be a big part of MP, since you have one MP character. When you play SP and then go back to MP again, that character is still the same guy. Just like Trevor keeps being the same guy when you aren't playing him. You don't become a new MP character every time you start multiplayer.

Again, this is all kind of like in RDR. I think RDR was a foretaste of what's about to come in V.

Couldnt agree with you more. Thats exactly my tought to. That there will be one character we can progress in Free-mode. Good to see someone else thinking like me biggrin.gif

Hunt or be hunted sounds fun. I have always like Cops and Crooks from IV, but it was too straightforward, no strategy or close quarters involved. Id definitely play that mode, as long as there was some goal for the escape, endless escaping would be boring after awhile. It would be cool to hide in buildings, and damn do I love epic car chases.

Cops and robbers, I really dont get the name. So is it practically a RPG server? Sounds good, but with 16 (maybe 24) players, I dont see it working. SA MP servers often have huge amounts of players, so server like that can work. However if you meant a server where some people would be doing robberies and crimes and some other people as cops would go after them, I like that. Cops would have to drive to crime scene, and get after the bad guys. If done correctly, I see this being awesome.

Yea, I remember some of the cops servers to handle more than 150 players witch was fun, but I can see that as a problem when its mabye limited to 32.

BUT rockstar said they are revolutionizeing the MP for GTA, so I have my hopes up. Maybe it will be a presistant world with more servers and 1 server is able to hold over 100 players? That sounds crazy.

If that would be possible... 32 would already be cool though.

I can only imagine how cool it would be to walk around a detailed Los Angeles with 100 other guys. What I would be more than content with though is to feel no reason to play SP free roam, except for if I just want to be alone. 32 is more than you think; even in a world as big as the one in GTA V is going to be, you will still have plenty of human interaction. People tend to stick around certain areas anyway (like the airport or times square in IV). I do hope that there are more than just 2 spots like that in V. In fact, I hope the city will be so cool that almost every spot will be a spot where people want to go.

Honestly I hate multiplayer. Every single time I went online and went to free roam and tried to play with others they constantly ruined the experience for me. I stopped going online about 3 yrs ago. I would legit love to play with people that aren't complete dick bags!

You're just suggesting modes, nothing revolutionary there..

It will probably build further on what RDR accomplished and Free Roam will be the basis of everything, with dynamic missions and stuff in it.

Special about multiplayer?

You don't know. f*ck man you've missed out.

Multiplayer on GTA is all about freedom, and choice, and everytime you play a different thing can happen any moment, it's adds replayability, the chance to do stuff with other players around the world.

Cops N Crooks hands down is the best multiplayer experience I've ever known. I'm a top 100 player, and I've been playing it since 2008! Being in a chase against 3 cops in different vehicles, and outsmarting them by my knowledge of the map, is brilliant, I win some, lose some, but it's fun as hell. And there's no structure to it, you can escape or play however you want.

Exactly. And only after that can R* start to think about what kind of (dynamic) missions there will be.

MP = SP, only with your own customized character, along with 31 other customized characters from other human beings. INSIDE free roam, you can play cops & crooks, boats & hoes, planes & snakes, whatever the f*ck you want. But switching between SP and MP should be no different than switching between characters.

It can't be a coincidence that RDR touched this idea. I'm sure GTA V MP will be like that, only even better. It just fits perfectly with the whole switching between protagonists idea.
