RIKOSHAY
Hey guys, forgive me if this topic has been done before as my search button isn't currently working. I was thinking how some people like to drive with traffic (instead of the speed demons most of us are) and I thought maybe if they included manual cars it would be easier to stay the same speed. Even those times you want to grab a sports car and open her up on the highway, you'd have more control of your speed and your car. Now I don't think they need to go as far as to add a speedometer to show how fast you should be going to shift up or down but rather just listen to the engine (like most manual car drivers do anyway). What do you guys think? Good idea or bad?
mmmfloorpie
I don't think there's enough buttons on the controllers to do this.
wildstyle91
In Mafia II they had a button to limit the cars speed to the speed limit and adjusted depending on the type of road you were on, that would be a cool feature if you wanted to role play. That was just a single button click, to include a manual gears would probably be too difficult as there aren't enough buttons.
RIKOSHAY
I don't think there's enough buttons on the controllers to do this. Maybe they could use the UP and DOWN buttons on the DPad and switch the phone function somewhere else or maybe in your start menu.
ScorpDaMonk
100MAD!!!! lol ima big onyx fan OT: I like the idea but I agree on the not really enough buttons thing although there is 2 buttons for handbrake but you usually use the other if your protag is on the phone while your driving. TheBlackProject
Not really, doesn't sound appealing to me. You can't shift without the clutch and there's not enough buttons on the controllers to even make that the slightest bit entertaining. They should do it like they did in Gran Turismo 5, you can see the driver shifting but you're not shifting with the controller.
faizanali
But why? we already have a mod for that and besides GTA has never been this way
Boss7dm
it is a great idea, but i think it is not gonna happen... with manual you can feel the driving 100%
RIKOSHAY
But why? we already have a mod for that and besides GTA has never been this way I play on an Xbox so I never use mods, and I know the game has always been without manual cars but its about growing as a franchise and experimenting, so if this can make the game more fun to play then why not? tapeear
i would love manual, considering im a huge forza and racing fan in general... however, i feel like without a rev count and lack of buttons, it would be hard t do in a gta game....listening to the engine would work...but sometimes i play with no sound, so i dont irratate my fan
GTA fan from the United Kingdom
It is a good idea, although i can't see it happening and i did not think that you were able to drive manual cars over in America
tapeear
It is a good idea, although i can't see it happening and i did not think that you were able to drive manual cars over in America its true, most americans don't...lol were lazy.. only people who really like cars have manuals....in the used car market its harder to find manual models and usually the price is jacked up because there rare
chevelle1972
yeah americans don't really have manuals, unless (usually) its a little honda civic/whatever, or an older car. i would like the feature but i don't think there are enough buttons. i haven't played IV in a while but i think i used A all the time to drift. but i can't really remember i think just one button for handbrake will do so that can free up one button

Adriaan
But what about the clutch? If no clutch, no manual. Unless some fancy sports car or one of those set-ups in some BMWs.
killahmatic
If there were enough buttons without it ruining other aspects, R* could always try it out on one type of car in this game, and if it went over well they could add more in the next installment. I personally have enough to worry about when driving, avoiding cops, aiming, and shooting, and wouldnt want any more buttons to push.
Adriaan
The game is set in America, anyway. Who drives stick shift there... especially in LA (well, a part from Jay Leno).
faizanali
Should stay limited to mods imo.

assmillk
I don't think there's enough buttons on the controllers to do this. well with forza's manual feature, its B to shift up and A to shift down. Idk what else B and A are used for in gta with driving unless i'm forgetting something. so with that i think it could work well
chevelle1972
i don't think we really need a clutch. just shifting on our own is enough for me! on forza i didn't use the clutch, just manually changed the gears. forgot what difficulty setting it was called in that game. although a clutch would be a lot funner, its pointless without a tach don't even know what rpm you're dropping the clutch lol

A tach would be nice but I don't think its essential (like the speedometer), just listen to the sound of the engine to know when to shift.
NeXt Vice City
I love driving manuals in real life, and couldn't imagine driving an auto, but it just doesn't work well in video games. Driving a manual isn't fun when gaming, it's too much hassle!
RIKOSHAY
It could be a lot to handle when trying to pull off a drive by simultaneously. I could even picture a lot of blown engines from over reving and not shifting up

What do you guys think? Good idea or bad? It's easy to drive around in IV at a constant slower speed. The problem comes from the AI drivers that don't recognise that you're next to them. I drive around at 30 mph quite often in IV, it's easy, but then again some people really have trouble driving realistically.
5000 Staples
It wouldn't work imo. But gear shift paddles on the steering wheel would solve the clutch issue everyone is going on about. its 'semi automatic' then. no need for clutch but gives you the power to change gear.
